Maps look scary as hell.
When hurricane season comes around, it seems like weather forecasting is about as effective as homeopathy.

The National Weather Service and its subsidiary, the National Hurricane Center, have been putting out updates every few hours over the past couple of days on the latest happenings of Tropical Storm Emily.

Emily was declared a tropical storm on Monday, and the National Hurricane Center had warned that it could develop into a hurricane and hit South Florida as early as Friday night.

Now, the weather forecast in Fort Lauderdale on Friday is expected to be around 90 degrees, with a 30 percent chance of rain -- with an unknown probability of Tropical Storm Emily.

We've been keeping track of the NWS updates as they're released, and the talk of apocalyptic Emily becomes less and less as time goes on.

This morning's update, posted at 8 a.m., says "there still remains significant uncertainty in the forecast," as they predict Emily will go across the Bahamas on Friday and Saturday, although the storm is currently stationary over the Caribbean.

Technically, the NWS said this morning, South Florida isn't even under a tropical storm watch at this time. Of course, they also say that could change by the afternoon.

The newest prediction is that if the storm does develop into a minor hurricane, it's likely to do so off the coast of the Carolinas.

If you want to read all of the advisories from the NWS, you can find them here. The next update will be put out at 11 a.m.
