Plaxico Burress Not Going to Miami Dolphins, Signs Deal With New York Jets

Embattled former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is staying in the Meadowlands.

Although Burress was practically begging to become a member of the Miami Dolphins, the team was quick to say it was "absolutely not" interested in having him in the aqua uniform -- so he's signed a deal with the New York Jets.

Burress signed a one-year deal with the Jets, although apparently you can still pick up Jets gear at our own Sun Life Stadium.

He's barely two months out of prison after accidentally shooting himself in the leg inside a New York City nightclub but was already talking about Miami after being reinstated by the NFL.

Burress went on a local sports radio program last month and said being alongside Dolphins wide reciever Brandon Marshall would make them the "best duo in football."

"Just for me to be able to be somewhere I love, that I call home, and to live at one place all year around for the first time in my life, it would be a beautiful situation," Burress said on that same radio appearance.

But despite Burress' ties to South Florida, he'll only get to pay a visit in week 17 of the NFL's schedule, when the Jets -- division rivals to the Dolphins -- come to Sun Life Stadium.

Burress' South Florida history includes what are likely some of the less memorable moments in his life: facing foreclosure on his $4 million home in Lighthouse Point while he was in prison, rear-ending a woman in Tamarac with his $140,000 Mercedes-Benz after his insurance expired, picking up traffic tickets in Fort Lauderdale that were later dropped, and showing up two hours late to a motivational-speaking gig to Fort Lauderdale kids just a few weeks ago.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Burress was on his way to meet with the 49ers before getting the call about the one-year, $3 million deal with the Jets.

Damn, I didn't know he wanted to come here. I was just saying how Plax on the left, Marshall on the right, and Bess in the slot would be sick. throw in Hartline for a 4th receiver or just motion Bush over. Instead were going for Jason Taylor and an extra DE... great.

I think that it was a smart move to not sign Plaxico Burress. Let the young receivers grow and become better instead of bringing in a 30-something year old to play receiver and slow down the progress of our young wide outs. GOOD MOVE MR. IRELAND!!! I really do trust what Ireland and Sporano are doing with the plan that Bill Parcells put in place. SuperBowl is right around the corner.

I don't believe he lost his home in Lighthouse Point. Seeing thay he paid for it in full and that is where he went after he got out of jail. Check facts before you report...that is part of your job.
