Jared Cano, Tampa High School Bomb Plot Suspect: I Just "Did the Dumbest Thing Ever"

• This kid has some serious issues,  Where are the parents? They had to know about his addiction to marijuana and alcohol.  He seems to come from a dysfunctional family.  The issues start at home not school.   Why werent the parents monitoring what he did?  may be the parents were and still are in denial.  Cant blame the scool there are some personnel who really care about kids in scool and are not there for a paycheck!   The fault lies with him.....

• Well it was more of a "If we had teachers who cared enough to listen" kind of thing.  And I suppose the comment could have been better written, because I feel like I didn't get my point across to you guys at all. No, you shouldn't ignore Facebook statuses. But it is my personal opinion that Hendley put way too much emphasis on the marijuana smoking being the reason, judging by his facebook statuses. One of the points I was trying to get across was that there are way more things to take into consideration, one of which being his family life, and more of a suggestion that perhaps our school system doesn't really give a crap about who they hire. I do realize that should have been another rant for another comment or something... But, I will admit after I had this discussion with a friend, that marijuana -does- elevate whatever mood a person is in, which I failed to think about, being that Cane has quite a record for things (the list is very long, but I'm sure you guys knew that), I take back my statement about the influence of marijuana. With all that being said, I'm not the kind of person who just trolls websites and tries to start fights. In the heat of the moment I wrote all that out, when usually things come better when a person is bit calmer. I'm always open to the possibilities that I could be wrong about certain things. The bottom line is: I'm glad he was caught.

• It's really odd how you assume others assume that facebook holds the answers.  However, the FB account is controlled by someone nutty enough to think it's OK to make bombs to blow up his peers at school.  That could explain why his favorite quote "lessons not learned in blood are soon forgotten" is so meaningful to him.  But even more odd is how you are defensive of the notion of people noticing what he says on his FB page.  That said, what ever kinds of teachers there are and how much they value their jobs, is way besides the point here.  Did you really expect people to sit around and start caring about the jobs the teachers do in context of this premeditated murder plan?

• 1. Yeah, Jared Cano should be arrested, which is my personal opinion. The guy sounds like he's a bit twisted (but this kind of behaviour doesn't just pop out of thin air-- this is a learned behaviour), and the world needs to be rid of people who are interested in harming innocent victims, especially in a public institution where kids are probably not feeling the best kind of safety... --and while we're on the subject of public schools, it's a high school. The attendees are teenagers going through puberty. While the negative effects of these adolescents may live with a person and torment the person in the way it's shaped them into adulthood, you have to remember that a lot of kids are just "trying to fit in." But definitely I know what it's like to feel like harming the teenage assholes, but I've never acted upon it because that's just a flat out dumb move. 2. Facebook is a joke. And by that, I mean that Facebook is playing a joke on society. So I suppose a more accurate way to rephrase that is "society is a joke." When you have a Facebook and you are volunteering information, people are going to find ways to twist it around to try to understand your motives. About anything. And I'm not saying that it's wrong of them to assume he had these problems they should have inferred from his status updates, but come on. Just because he's a heavy stoner does not mean anything. Maybe if they paid more attention to his pictures of guzzling alcohol they'd get a more justified explanation. I don't know if you have noticed, but if you turn to anyone you know who smokes pot, they are probably more agreeable, and far too lazy to even get up from the couch, or whatever relaxed position they're in. Yeah, this guy is screwed in the head, but it's probably (I'd say definitely, though I don't know the situation, but speaking from experience, I mean) the alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant and makes people belligerent. If you're going to pin all his problems on pot, it's probably that he's been drinking, then smoking, which, if you didn't know, will emphasize the bad mood by way of alcohol emphasis. All down to alcohol, I'm telling you. So when The Pulp used his frequent mention of marijuana from his Facebook, I got kind of irked. If you go back in time, a lot of things were changed from protesters, who were probably all high. Well, not all of them, but all the stoners I know just promote peace and harmony (what a fruity thing to say).  I just think it's ridiculous. Why is Hendly pinning the majority of Cano's problems on marijuana? Is he a Republican who has never smoked pot? It has been my observation that the people who talk so badly about marijuana are typically Republicans or Conservatives who have never smoked it (though I'm not saying pot is the solution to everything, just stating my observations). While Cano is an idiot, I'd look past the ridiculous status updates about weed and perhaps dig deeper into his home life, the possibility of being an alcoholic at 17, and just basically the whys of his (potential) actions. (Though "potential" seems like I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, which I definitely don't think he deserves... I think the students should feel at least a tad bit safer...) And I think I must add that public schools are full of teachers who are teachers because they need a job. Not because they care, but because they have the minimum requirements and the Florida school system is just looking for someone, anyone who will teach. So basically the school system is: teachers who don't give two shits about students except for their lesson plans and their pay, and The Powers-that-be of the Florida Education hiring insensitive numskulls with their hands open for money in this stupid economy, instead of holding their hands open for the vulnerable teenagers on the verge of adulthood... It's quite difficult to come across a teacher who cares. Point blank. I'm not saying all Cano's problems could be solved if a teacher listens to him, or at least acknowledges a possibly irrational behaviour from any of his/her students, but dammit, if it makes a tiny difference, at least it makes a difference.  No one gives a shit about these things. They just assume that Facebook holds all the answers... Typically when people don't understand "why," they turn to the easiest source that gives them the tiniest bit of a reason, and leave it at that. Simpletons. That's what they are. Simpletons. Facebook cannot be your end-all, be-all answer. Look deeper than a fucking page on the internet. The world is a lot more complicated than just technology can solve.

• maybe people will  open their eye's to the trouble of the so called kool kids? what about the things people have done to this kid to bring him to the point of JUST PLANING this act! we never look at this do we?  we lock them up,not seeing the hurt that may have been done to them. being a gay kid in high school, the names and things said would have made me go nuts also. if not for great friends. but not everyone gets that chance to have foundation in friends. see where it came from and help make things right! locking them up is not the key here. good luck jared glad no one got hurt,but you. and thats sad.  

• Yes, I agree, the news media reports nothing about why these troubled teens are driven to commit these crimes. Why was he suspended from school ? What type of school was it ? What "materials" were found in his room ??? And most importantly, What prescription drugs was he being given by his doctor ???
