That's the spirit.
We're not sure what it says about the state of youth football in Fort Lauderdale when the cops send out reminders not to drink alcohol, do drugs, or gamble while you're watching the youngsters duke it out on the gridiron.

This reminder may have something to do with ESPN's Outside the Lines segment in May, when they happened to notice one of the coaches in the South Florida Youth Football League gambling in the stands during a game.

That leads the Fort Lauderdale Police Department's release of the details on the eloquently named "Operation Endzone," which will start up in accordance with the youth football season.

Uniformed officers as well as undercover cops from the station's street crimes unit will be at all the parks when the kids are playing, looking for drinking, gambling, drug use, and "illicit activity."

The cops say violators will either be suspended or expelled from the park and could be subject to arrest.

Apparently ESPN's gambling investigation revealed that not only would gamblers pay parents to let their children play football but that the youngsters also received a payout if they made big plays on the field.

We don't see why the cops are trying to ban drunk and stoned people from exploiting children for money, but hey, we're just the messengers.
