Allen West Back to Insults and Ignoring Facts About the Economy

Rep. Allen West, who thinks Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is a refrigerator.
Rep. Allen West seems to be the gift that keeps on giving to the world of misinformation.

West went on Fox & Friends this morning, and let everyone know that he was still playing the blame game and made it clear he hadn't read Standard and Poor's report on its decision to lower the country's credit rating.

Responding to Sen. John Kerry's accusation that the new AA+ credit rating is a "Tea Party downgrade," West called it the "most insidious" thing he'd ever heard.

"[Those from the left] have to look at themselves and they have to understand that they are the ones that are totally to blame," West said. "It has nothing to do with increasing revenues by tax hikes. It has everything to do with cutting spending."

Well, not according to the S&P report, in which it explained part of the rationale behind the lower rating on page four:

Even assuming that at least $2.1 trillion of the spending reductions the act envisages are implemented, we maintain our view that the U.S. net general government debt burden (all levels of government combined, excluding liquid financial assets) will likely continue to grow...
Compared with previous projections, our revised base case scenario now assumes that the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, due to expire by the end of 2012, remain in place. We have changed our assumption on this because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues, a position we believe Congress reinforced by passing the act.

The report also says the decision was made based on the "prolonged controversy over raising the statutory debt ceiling," which wasn't exactly a lefty position.

As usual, West then decided to use insults in lieu of facts -- this time while giving his opinion on Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

"When you open that refrigerator door, the lights don't come on," West said on Fox News. "I really think he should move on. I don't think that Timothy Geithner really has a handle on the fiscal situation of the United States of America."

That's what we call irony, considering this is coming from the guy who still believes that TARP was enacted under President Obama -- which it obviously wasn't.

That sounds like something Sarah Palin would do.

TL;DR: Allen West is still clueless.

TV reporter’s advice to GOP candidate West draws heatby George Bennett | May 14th, 2010 A WPTV Channel 5 reporter’s advice to Republican congressional candidate Allen West on his TV appearances has been deemed “inconsistent” with station policy and drawn fire from the campaign of U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton. Klein supporters were alarmed recently when they saw a YouTube video of an event in which West introduced WPTV reporter Angela Sachitano and said she “does our media relations.”Sachitano has no formal role with the West campaign, but she and her husband are friends with the candidate, West campaign manager Josh Grodin said. West said in an e-mail that Sachitano “provides me insights into how to improve my media appearance/presence and conduct of interviews.”Sachitano has covered a handful of stories involving Klein and West, including a recent report on the political ramifications of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. When West opened his campaign headquarters in Deerfield Beach last month, a video posted on YouTube showed him introducing a variety of campaign staffers and volunteers, including Sachitano.“Angela Sachitano, who does our media relations, has done such a great job in helping me to develop that presence, so that when I go on MSNBC, you notice I didn’t smile with those folks, because you have to know how to project the right type of presence, so Angela thank you,” West says in the clip.West, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, said later that Sachitano’s husband, a former Army captian, was an early volunteer on West’s losing 2008 campaign against Klein.Angela Sachitano wouldn’t comment and referred questions to WPTV News Director Jeff Brogan.Said Brogan: “Through her husband Angela has a personal friendship with Allen West. While we have no reason to believe that relationship has negatively impacted her work as a journalist we did find her involvement with this campaign inconsistent with our policy. We’ve taken the appropriate action to address the situation.”Brogan’s statement didn’t elaborate on the “appropriate action.”Klein campaign spokeswoman Sarah Rothschild blasted West.“To have a high profile member of the media personally advising Allen West, while that individual is also simultaneously reporting on the campaign, is beyond what is acceptable. Of course, unethical behavior from Allen West and his campaign is becoming the norm. South Florida residents deserve fair and unbiased coverage of the news and West is trying to undermine that.”

Just came across a post from this blog on facebook.  Never heard of it and am quite happy about that, if the level of non-critical thinking skills in this post is an indicator of where your frame of reference lies.  The section from the report CLEARLY states....."we maintain our view that the U.S. net general government debt burden (all levels of government combined,

excluding liquid financial assets) will likely continue to grow...".  If they anticipate the tax cuts to remain....it IS all about spending.  Which it always has been.  Oh...by the way...did the big B.O. vote FOR TARP!!!  He's got his face in the mix also.  How pathetic!   How absolutely pathetic!!!

Westy is on a roll. Actually it may be more like a runaway downhill freight train. He has managed to replace knowledge with hubris as an oratory skill. Not good Westy, but on second thought maybe it is a good thing, since you do a fantastic job of exposing your lunacy to the electorate without restraint.

West is a good example of a huge missed opportunity. He never stopped campaigning after he was elected. West didn't seem to understand that he actually has a job to do. He has a congressional district to represent, but instead decided to be a tool of the extreme right on a national stage, Faux News. West is not prepared for this type of act. The right wing media loves him because the can count on him to saw something to whip up the tea party retiress who are watching television all day.  He should learn his district, broaden his base at home, and shut up. Otherwise, he will be looking for a new job in January of 2013. You are right, Kenny, this is a good thing.

ALL YOU  LEFT WING MARXISTS NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.S&P WARNED THE DEMOCRATS ABOUT BEING DOWNGRADED,THEY DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE THE CUTS.....SO THE DOWNGRADE CAME.THE ONLY BLAME HERE LIES ON OBAMA AND HIS ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC ADMINISTRATION.THEY ARE THE TRUE ENEMY OF THE STATE.

S & P is the rich man's Equifax. They are the same organization that never downgraded Goldman Sachs, AIG and the carpetbagging junk bonding thieves. Nothing more than a flawed conclusion by a discredited messenger. There was, arguably, never a snowball's chance in hell that the US would not pay their bills.

When is the last time you were in school, 6th grade? Politics aside, I find most of you teabaggers to be the most ignorant fucktards on this green planet.

Dumb as rocks.

Please do not insult 6th graders. They , at least, know where the Caps Lock key is.

both parties are equally to blame for continuing to sell out country away piece by piece to our financial institutions, but what you're saying is just plain stupid. the downgrade happened because of the debt ceiling fight, & there is only 1 reason there even was the debt ceiling fight: the GOP's willingness to destroy the entire country in order to deny O a 2nd term. they've admitted as much on several occasions.

Cecil, take a deep breath. All democrats are not Marxists or enemies of the state, whatever that may be.  Most democrats are hardworking middle class folks who want their government to work. There was a $4 trillion deal on the table, and it died. Obama and Boehner had a reasonable plan of cuts and tax increases totalling over $4 trillion, which the S&P was expecting, but Boehner could not get his freshmen to accept it. Read the explanation from S&P. It is pretty simple. S&P expected our congress to make decisions that were good for the country, and not play politics with serious issues. Also, they were expected the congress to address this particular issue with a combination of spending cuts and revenue enhancement, since only spending cuts will not resolve the deficit.  The house republicans failed our country on all accounts.

Well said......these folks tend to lean towards yelling and name calling instead of making a valid point.....especially when they're wrong.

WEST IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT........HAD THE DEMOCRATS ALLOWED CUTS OF 4 TRILLION LIKE THE GOP WANTED AND A BALANCED BUDGET AMMENDMENT THE RATING WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DOWNGRADED.

Don't be silly --Obama offered to go along with a 4.2 trillion dollar compromise and the Republicans walked away from it.  There is no evidence that the GOP/TP's first priority is debt reduction, otherwise they would have taken that compromise.  As for the GOP balanced budget amendment: what a joke.

SMDrPepper

Yeah that downgrade had nothing at all with a small group of idiots tying everything up and basically freezing the government into inaction.  Yeah that wont affect anyone's confidence in this country being able to get anything done.  Thanks tea baggers, for running us farther into the ditch in only a few months.  You really showed the rest of the world that you should never EVER be allowed to run anything.

SMDRP,Thank you for telling it as it really is.  The debt ceiling could have been raised immediately, eliminating the tea party created "crisis."  Obstructionists are obstructionists...the lowered rating will INCREASE our national debt as well as negatively impact the borrowing public.  Sad, sad, sad.

Of course the Allen West groupies are either no better informed than he is, or (and more likely) they don't care if what he says resembles reality.
