Update: TSA agent Nelson Santiago is not the first agency employee to be arrested on theft charges.

While most Transportation Security Administration employees are busy groping people or taking naked pictures of them, the cops say one of those employees was putting fliers' electronics down his pants.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Nelson Santiago stole around $50,000 worth of electronics over the past six months from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport's Terminal 1.

Santiago -- a TSA officer since 2009 -- was caught earlier this week by a Continental Airlines employee taking an iPad out of someone's luggage and stuffing it into his pants, the cops say.

After being arrested Monday on two counts of grand theft, police say Santiago admitted to stealing computers, GPS devices, video cameras, and other electronic merchandise from luggage he was supposed to be screening.

The cops say Santiago would immediately take pictures of his new goods and upload the photos online to sell the stuff.

Santiago would typically sell the stolen goods to people before his shift was even over, police say.

BSO detectives estimate that Santiago's haul totaled $50,000 over the past six months.

The cops are looking for people whose stuff has been stolen, although they say the chances of  getting the stuff back are slim.

Santiago was released from jail on bond, although police say more charges against him are pending. According to police, Santiago no longer works with the TSA.

Below is Santiago's mug shot.

This same disgusting thievery of lost & unclaimed property is commonplace at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC. The pubic must be aware of the crimes that are being committed against them when their lost property is stolen from the PABT's Lost & Found Dept. by Port Authority Bus Terminal Supervisors. Google  “Donna Lebourne abc news." & watch the video, or click on the link below.

If you lost an item at the PABT & it was returned to you, put in a theft report with the PAPD to get your lost item replaced because most likely your item was stolen by PABT management.

It would be nice to see the Port Authority aggressively go after the criminals and their enablers that they employ who engage in these same disgraceful crimes and even worse criminal acts, i.e. the unconscionable and highly illegally procedure of throwing lost passports found at the PABT in the garbage in this age of global terrorism and rampant identity theft. Google “found, stolen, trashed by PA.” See the link below.

Seeking to revitalize some of its aging properties, in 2004 the company announced plans to sell 11 company-owned hotels to fund a $40 million "rejuvenation project" for the rest of the chain. At that time, producers voted to set up a per-bale assessment system to fund the program, with built-in safeguards to protect their investments.

Is that an iPad in your pants, or are you just glad to see me?

A fly is a covering over an opening join concealing the mechanism, such as a zipper, velcro or buttons, used to join the opening. In trousers, this is most commonly an opening covering the groin, which makes the pants easier to put on or take off. The opening also allows men to urinate without lowering their pants.

If they can take something out....THEY CAN PUT SOMETHING IN YOUR LUGGAGE....for the right price!  What a deplorable sham the TSA is. TAMPERING WITH AN AIRCRAFT'S CARGO AT ANY POINT IN TRANSIT SHOULD BE A FELONY BREACH OF SECURITY!!!

These bedbugs rifle thru baggage every single day...someday one of them will stuff a disaster in a passenger's bag. What will Napolitano say then?

They have no cameras in the underground area where they have free reign over your baggage. I one packed a pounch of jewelry by accident, yes it was my fault for packing something so expensive and it was a one time fluke but a diamond necklace and bracelet were stolen along with an MP3 player and inexpensive watch. Other expensive items were left behind fortunately. I KNOW it was TSA! My bags cam in at my arrival terminal in 9 minutes....another fluke but they didnt have time to rifle through my things. The time that the bags were checked through at my airline as time stamped in their records. NOTHING was done about it!

I have quit flying, (except for air taxi's) it hasn't been much of a inconvenience, and there are days I can pretend I live in a free country.

Hmmmm, how bout exploiting the improper screening process.  You can blah blah all you you want but what really hurts them is when you go to management and notify them to the security not being done properly.  They miss the small things all the time so we must exploit that to prevent the major things from happening or continue to waste tax dollars!

time to hold the TSA chief accountable for hiring practices, along with screening of screeners... all TSA agents shall be groped  by members of the public to see if they have stolen goods hidden in their pants! TSA looks for bombs , we look for our stuff.

Travel ny car....put more money in the pockets of Arabs to fund terrorists. Boycott the airlines and put American jobs on the line, and financially penalize American companies, because the government is clueless. Brilliant.

There will be some criminal activity no matter who is doing the screening. They just have to be dealt with when they get caught.

i also commend you gropees for your patience, if some douche perv grabbed my balls hed be unconscious and id be on the way to jail, i personally have made more than enough police officers look like fools for not obeying policy, unfortunately not enough people witnessed, but those who did were motivated, and a few of those shitheads no longer work in our city, and i just realized how funny it is that spellchecker recognizes shithead as a legitimate word, haha, terrible spell checking programs!!!!

I believe a documentary film should be made of real footage and commentators to describe the situations and what you should do. You are trying to convince the herd, the moronic, spineless, pathetic, and ignorant americans that are being destroyed by the pathetic bullshit thats shoved down their throats, almost from birth. Make the film enter the sundance, submit it to ifc, hbo.... people need to see this in a mass, not by word of mouth!!!!!!!!!! Word of mouth is too slow, hit the media hard motivate these drones, show them what they dont know. Celebrities backing your cause.... NOT LIL WAYNE OR ANY OTHER FLUTTER OF TALENTLESS CRAP!!!! Also you SERIOUSLY need to catch the police that pull the absurd civil rapings they provide on an all the fuckin time basis. Compile these events, get backing, motivate the drones. These websites are never ever ever gonna be seen by a mass public, they are simply too hard to locate!!! I love your guys' movement, i have been saying long enough that a civil war revolution is coming, the gangs are our militias for populated city areas, and everybody knows how country folk get down, but maybe you can cut it short and prove me wrong. THE REVOLUTION IS ON ITS WAY, AND IT WILL BE MERCILESS, THE FUSE IS ONLY WAITING TO BE LIT!!!! HISTORY IS BOUND TO REPEAT ITSELF YEAR AFTER YEAR, DECADE AFTER DECADE, CENTURY AFTER CENTURY!!!! IT IS INEVITABLE WITHOUT PREEMPTIVE ACTION, IF THE PUBLIC DOESNT SEE THIS FASTER, THEN WE ARE IN THE SPEED LANE TO THE OBVIOUS. If some douche can get money for a documentary about mcdonalds you should be able to get some dough for exposing our fraudulent government. Anyway ill be waiting M14 in hand, how will you prepare, will you hand your weapons over to the enemy, or castrate his bitch ass with brute fuckin force!!!!!

Not flying isn't an option for me since my business requires travel across the country. I can easily see how he could get away with this. I lost a Kindle on a trip but I couldn't for the life of me tell you if I had it after I went through Florida or not, since I was in several states, and several airports, both to meet clients, and then through different airports for connecting flights. As for the TSA pat downs - I get it every time since I have an artificial knee, unless they happen to have an X-ray machine installed. I find it annoying and a stupid waste of my time. Seriously, we ought to be better at identifying potential terrorists than people like me and my 78-year-old mother.

In order to eliminate the TSA we need to make it nasty for them:

Ie. mandate:Weekly drug testsA full FBI background screeningYearly IRS auditsBlood alcohol screenings prior to every shift

and

If they are caught doing anything Illegal or breaking any of the above rules mandatory 2x the typical civilian sentence.

DefeatObama.com

If you are in anyway associated with a federal law enforcement position and you take advantage of that position, in this case stealing from the people you were assigned to protect, then you should do mandatory jail time but excessively more than typical citizen. No early release for good behavior either. No parole. Nice big fat fine double the cost of the prosecution and loss the victim incurred. If that doesn't correct the behavior double it up again.

It's easy to avoid this.  Simply don't visit the United States, and if you're unfortunate enough to already be there, leave and never go back.

If you travelled from Ft. Lauderdale in the time period during which this TSA criminal was working and reported something stolen from your bag TSA should be responsible for reimbursement.

Since the thefts occurred at an airport, hopefully he will be prosecuted in the federal criminal court system. There should be enhanced penalties for any LEO or similar persons that are convicted of crimes they are hired to prevent.

He will be let go with a warning - hell he is already out of jail, as the story says.

i had a case like this a few  years ago except it was a baggage handler,  u can no lnger  lock your bags for allegedly secuity reasons, so these folks have a license to steal and it right to e bay...  the airlines, again, allegedly do not keep track of the number of stolen articles since they are not responsible for security.  a vicious circle never put anything of c value in your luggage.

Fred!
Fred!

Actually, the airlines ARE responsible.  Your contract of carriage is with the airline.  Once you leave your stuff in their charge, the liability is theirs. It might be a great idea to sue the airlines for the lost stuff.

So Matthew,What do you think of this little story that you published? Can this be the start of a popular uprising against the TSA? Will you become the President of the Abolish the TSA organization? It looks as if the majority of the responses in this blog indicate a very specific dislike for the "Nazis at our airport gates."
