Painful Gas? RaceTrac Station Pump Injures Man, Lawsuit Claims

Deathproof?
In an accident seemingly snatched from the movie Zoolander, a man says a Pompano Beach gas station's faulty pump maimed him, according to a recent court filing.

In March 2009, Richard and Susan Gold pulled into a RaceTrac filling station at 599 Atlantic Blvd., Broward County Civil Court documents indicate.

Richard Gold started to pump gas, putting the nozzle on the auto-fill setting. He assumed that the switch would cut off the flow when the tank was full, as they normally do.

Suddenly, however, "a high volume of gasoline started spewing" from the tank into the air and onto the ground, around the pump and his vehicle.

Gold, "fearing the immediate combustion dangers to himself and other customers," tried to get control of the "spewing nozzle," court docs say.

While doing so, he slipped and fell on the ground.

Gold is blaming this mishap on the pump, saying that he would have never have been in a risky position and hurt his "head, neck, arms, back and legs and other injuries not yet diagnosed" had the mechanism worked. He's demanding a jury trial and wants the petroleum giant to pay for his injuries.

Susan Gold has also tacked herself onto the lawsuit. Her reasoning?

Because of the bad gas, she says that her hubby is pretty much useless, as per the "loss of the services and consortium of her husband."
