Allen West: Does He Need to Apologize for His Letter to Debbie Wasserman Schultz?

Allen West
A few hours after we said an apology from Rep. Allen West was highly unlikely for his email rant to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, he said he had apologized -- which was caught on tape by a Huffington Post reporter.

Wasserman Schultz said he never apologized shortly after that, and West's spokeswoman said that West never apologized and that it was "absolutely false." She said they were waiting for an apology from Wasserman Schultz.

Still, more Democratic politicians and political groups have asked West to apologize, in addition to those who had reactions to the email midafternoon yesterday.

The Florida Young Democrats say West needs to "man up" and apologize.

"Putting aside the unbalanced, poisonous rhetoric in Congressman West's immature outburst, the more disturbing issue is his believing it OK to demean a fellow member of Congress this way," says Florida Young Democrats President Justin Spiller. "West's tantrum also demeaned the collegiality of the United States Congress, a body that long predates his short six-month tenure there. Congressman West needs to man up, admit he made a mistake -- and apologize."

Several female Democrats in the House have also asked for his apology, especially in reference to West saying Wasserman Schultz was "not a Lady."

The head of the Congressional Black Caucus -- of which West is the only Republican member -- told Fox News that members were "furious" about the email he sent.

Now we want to hear from you: Should West apologize for his email tirade to Wasserman Schultz?

When you can't defend your actions with logic you call the other side names.  So it was in 2nd grade and so it is with Mr. West.

Mr West was very unprofessional; cooler heads always prevail, and he a being a retired military officer, should have definitely known better. If he hadn't exposed that ill temper he harbors, he would be the one requiring an apology.

Why should DWS apologize for calling West a misogynist when he obviously is? Not only is he a misogynist, he is rude, crude and socially unacceptable

Wests little temper tantrum just shows how bad he is for office.  He went off the hook because she did not mention him by name and his policy.  In return he acts like a twelve year old girl.West is still the same lunatic he was in Iraq.

Update from Gawker:

The Huffington Post released an audio recording (http://bit.ly/nI5Q6p) of their reporter’s exchange with West on Wednesday evening:

Huffington Post reporter: Hey Congressman West?

Allen West: Hey.

HP: I have a question for you. I saw that there’s a bunch of Congresswomen having a press conference today to talk about your email to Debbie Wasserman Schultz. What do you think about it? Does that bother you that they’re doing that?

AW: No, it doesn’t bother me.

HP: They’re probably going to say something about being anti-woman or something. [inaudible]

AW: I’ve been married for 22 years. I have two daughters.

HP: So what does that mean? That you respect women or ...

AW: [inaudible] And I just apologized.

HP: And you just apologized?

AW: Mmhmm.

HP: OK. Alright. Thank you.

AW: You’re welcome.

West can't apologize. That would make him look weak to his particular brand of constituent. Although in this battle of wits little DWS is beating the shit out of Mr. Macho.

Actuallly it's all the Dems fault...why didn't you run a candidate against West? Klein was nothing more than a place sitter- and his campaign evidenced that.

On a positive note, he didn't whip out his pearl handled .45 and let loose a couple of rounds just to the right of Debbie's earlobe.

He is, therefore, making progress.

Get out of the Sand Box and grow up!!!!  They are both at fault and as a matter of fact most of the US Congress needs a lesson in Growing up!!!

LOL. Allen West won't be apologizing to the likes of Debbie WS. When did she apologize for calling him a misogynist? Get a clue already for God's sake.

he isn't a "retired military officer" no matter what he claims. He was separated from the military because  he is unable to to maintain a "cooler head." He shot a gun next to a detainee's head and had his men beat the prisoner trying to get a confession. The detainee was innocent. I know that you are not defending him, but calling him a "retired military officer" is an insult to all military people who have served with honor, in my opinion.

I would say Mr. West displayed "rightous indignation" if you read what was said about him, behind his back.  Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman are tanked every single day of their lives by the liberals and yet, not a peep.  Double standard anyone....

Do you feel the same way about the way Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman are villified and slandered?

No, it shows that even good men have an end to their patience. DWS is an embarrassment to humanity. A lying, soulless human being who couldn't care less about the people she represents.

Always remember to never get into a battle of wits when your opponent, like Mr. West here, is unarmed.

That's a rhetorical question, right? Parties don't usually support another candidate against its own incumbent, even one as weak as Klein. Besides, the good thing about the House is that you have the opportunity to remedy your mistakes every two years.

Who cares what he did. They are the enemy. Do you think they actually follow the rules of the Geneva convention?

While I share your feelings to some degree, Mr West is, in fact, a retired military officer and is drawing retired pay.  I believe that his DD 214 will show that he served "honorably."  We may or may not agree.

Diogenes6670

I think you may be confusing the 4th grade activity known as name-calling with comment on gaffes.  Mr. West was acting like a 4th grader when he called DWS "vile, unprofessional, despicable, heinous, characterless and a coward."   I am unaware, and doubt, that any of "the liberals" has done the same to either Ms. Bachmann or Ms. Palin.

You're an asshole. DWS has worked her little butt off for years and cares very much for her constituents. She started at a very young age walking door to door.

She has more integrity in her pinkie than your entire mongoloid family have in their entire collective bodies.

Diogenes6670

OK, Carl, it's time to put up or, as Mr. West would say, shut up:  please explain to us all the factual basis you have for calling DWS "an embarrassment to humanity" and a "lying, soulless human being who couldn'y care less about the people she represents."   Or are these merely your opinions?  And if the latter, what basis do you have for forming them.

You see, I'd ask Mr. West the same kinds of questions regarding his email comments to DWS, but I have no reasonable basis to believe I'd get a answer.

Kljg19,No, I have never heard him speak in person . Just on the air and I have read what he has said. When one resorts to personal ad hominen attacks, then the conversation is no longer a political exchange, it is a personal debasing of the speaker.

Carl, and who the heck are you???

Rhetorical correct..however I am a conservative Republican, and I chose not to vote in that race, rather than to vote for either of those 2 clowns.

About 45 days after this individual's arrest and torture, he was released from jail without being charged.

He wasn't an enemy before, but due to West's action, he certainly is one now.

DWS is a total dip shit. She will soon be out of a job and will leave S. Florida. I can not wait until I have a new Rep in this district, and the current bag of shit DWS is gone.

I am not a West supporter, but what he did in "the fog of war" to secure the safety of his troops could well have been done by any of us.  Chzz, I wonder if you've walked in a soldier's boots, in a war or an insurgency, when you're not always able to see who's on your side and who's not.  Or if you've ever commanded and been responsible for soldiers on a battlefield.  I personally find Mr. West's actions to have been reprehensible, but there for the grace of G-D go I.  He paid for his misdeed with his military career.  Now, let's see if he commits enough misdeeds to make him a one-term congressman.  I certainly hope so.
