Went to college, went to grad school and made 6 figures, my pension is for life and is in the $85,000 bracket, oh yea my medical is paid as well, and I get 3% cola evety July. • I agree that if Public Service is privatized we may as well go back to the Middle Ages, when kings used to imprison people for taxes, because that is what is going to happen when some people cannot afford to pay the fees charged by the private sector, for services offered. This was one of the major causes of widespread poverty and subsequent wars back then, as people fought for more equal rights. It will also cause a major increase in crime as you do have some unscrupulous business people who will orchestrate a crime against persons just so that they may feel that they need their services. (I have seen that happen in a particular security business). What happened back in the Middle Ages is also one of the reasons why a system of government was developed so that tax payers money would be used to take care of certain basic human needs that benefit everybody within a society (such as health care and education and policing), and not just Royalty. In every society, there must be a balance of public service to prevent private businesses whose sole concern is the  profit from destroying and dehumanizing people. I admit that as I read this I have a great dread of any such thing being successfully implemented.  People must read history and not allow some things to repeat themselves.

Then while you're doing the job, I say, "Look, this just isn't reasonable to expect ME to pay 100% of your retirement. That $350 I'm paying you? You need to give me back about $3.50 of that to put in your retirement account. So you're only going to get $347.50 now instead of $350 like we agreed." Then some friends of mine start telling me, "That's crazy! She only pay 3% into her retirement? You shouldn't be paying ANY of her retirement! That's for her to invest in. You already pay her a salary. Quit paying this retirement perk." And so I tell you, "Look, Nancy, there's no such thing as a free lunch. I'm not paying for your retirement anymore. That $150 I said I'd put in your retirement account? Forget about it. I'm going to go spend that on something else. It's not yours anymore. Now if you want me to take a bigger chunk of your $347.50 to put into retirement, we can talk about that, but you're not getting this $150 out of me." THAT is exactly what's being done when any employer--government, airlines, whoever--welches out on paying retirement they agreed to pay.  Yes, you the taxpayer pay cops' retirement--because it's PART OF THEIR PAY that they've agreed to take late. They're doing the taxpayer a favor by not demanding it all up front on payday, and your response is to slash their pay??? "Since when does a boss (the taxpayer) get LESS than their employees " Medical and legal offices come to mind. A patient or client is a boss in the same sense that a taxpayer is. Most of the people who pay doctors and lawyers make less than they do. So...Republicans wreck the economy (you think the capitalists on Wall Street are Democrats?), George W. Bush increases the size of government more than any other President ever and turns Clinton's balanced budget into the biggest government deficit in world history, then Republican billionaire CEOs start firing people rather than taking smaller bonuses when revenue slumps, and Republican bank execs start foreclosing on homes they don't even have any legal claim to...and you blame liberals for this mess? Doing things the Republican way is what created this mess. Don't pretend that screwing it up even further is the only way to fix things.

• I worked for Sarasota County for 13 years. My hourly wage was consistently 1/2 to to 2/3 what all my buddies were making laying block and building houses back in the day. But I put up with the crap hourly wage because I knew I was building a retirement. But I had to first put in TEN YEARS to be vested in the FRS; Florida Retirement System. I knew dozens of people who put in a year or even up to nine years and had to quit simply because they could not deal with the shittty salary. Guess what? No ten years, no retirement. And yes, just like the rest of the world we had lay offs too. There were no guarantees. All these politicians are lying to you bud. They are deflecting blame to a scapegoat and you are buying it all hook, line and sinker.

However, it is good to see the staunch republican stronghold wake up and smell the coffee.  Gov. • I have to respectfully disagree with you, Lorelei. Look at Wisconsin.  They're already turning it around.  They've gone from being the 41st ranked  business-friendly state to the 24th best.  That's a HUGE improvement.  Guess what the end result is?  More businesses going to WI and more jobs. Lower unemployment.  I find it laughable that Obama has been in office for well over 2 years and yet, the Left keeps giving him a pass and pleading for everyone to be more patient.  Scott's been in office for 6 months and Floridians are screaming bloody murder.
