Religious Groups Gear Up For Margate Mosque Protest

"No Jihad in our backyard," one of the "pro-American" sentiments displayed at today's announcement
Mustaches, Gadsden flags, and rampant Islamophobia.

We have the rest of the story too.

Religious groups, tea party activists, and residents of Margate showed up this morning to the city's Masjid Jamaat Al-Mumineen mosque, in preparation for a protest tonight to get the mosque shut down.

The mosque's imam, 24-year-old Izhar Khan, pleaded not guilty late last week to charges of the Pakistani Taliban. Now the religious and tea party folks want the city, state, or federal government to shut the mosque down -- at the very least, launch an investigation into its ties to the Taliban.

No evidence has been provided by the feds that points toward the mosque being tied to the Taliban, but you wouldn't guess that based on what speakers had to say today outside the mosque.

Pastor Mark Boykin of Church of All Nations in Boca Raton says the activities the mosque is engaging in "is nothing short of treason," and calls for a full investigation into the mosque -- admitting having no facts beyond the arrest of Khan.

Shortly after Khan's arrest last month, the mosque distanced its ties from Khan, and explained the positive influence the mosque's worshipers had on the local community.

Citizens of Margate's Patrick Laffey says he attends a local church and services the community, and has never seen any mosque members providing services to the community.

"These people," Laffey says, pointing at the mosque, "have never assimilated into the community."

So we asked Americans Against Hate's Joe Kaufman: If you're presuming the guilt of Kahn and the mosque, what are you going to do if they're cleared of any wrongdoing?

"I will take back my words if he's found not guilty," he tells New Times.

Meanwhile, Nezar Hamze -- the executive director of the South Florida's Council on American-Islamic Relations -- tells New Times that protesters are "anti-Islamic and anti-Muslim bigots," which he says he finds "disgusting."

"They don't understand what it means to be American," he says. "They don't understand the Constitution."

The demonstrators plan on protesting outside the mosque, at 3222 Holiday Springs Boulevard in Margate, at 7 p.m. tonight.

Are those protesting, including Joe Kaufman, all from Israel? Do they follow the Jewish faith, by any chance? The name Kaufman sounds Jewish, which makes me think that these people really hate Muslims. Israel has committed mass war crimes and genocide against Muslims living around Israel, despite the fact that these Muslims opened the doors to them and gave them land after the German Christian Nazis tried to exterminate them. Its pretty clear that the Jews today have outdone the holocaust with their own crimes against innocent Muslims.

This is the reason why the world laughs at us Americans. We have red neck hicks who think they know everything, but they only prove to us that they know not even the constitution.

Throughout the history of the [Muslim Brotherhood] movement the mosque continued to be its principal recruiting office. This doctrinal and historical context explains why the “Sharia and Violence in American Mosques” study results—while immediate, justifiable cause for alarm—are unsurprising, even predictable. Moreover the current findings were augured by a qualitative assessment of US mosques by Sheikh Hisham Kabbani described in 1999, and the localized Detroit area survey of mosques conducted in 2003. ...Sharia law look it up ,....see how they feel about gays...or.umm can you say torture..women....no rights  rape beheadings no school for you.....Islam's purpose is for all to be ISLAMIC start reading something other that this rag and learn.

Maybe they can multitask and head up the street to the Jewish Temple, where they raise funds for the Israeli contingent. Spread the bigotry around evenly. I wonder how many of these bigots hate the Jews just a little less than the Muslims.

There is so much I could say but I'm just going to go with this man is an idiot. I'm a member of this mosque and have been since 2005. Me and my family are proud Americans who are not terrorist. Not too mention most of the members of the mosque are from Guyana and Trinidad, not Pakistan!!!!

There weren't that many Margate residents there this morning. Mr.  Laffey is misinformed. After Wilma the people from the Mosque went door to door at Holiday Springs Condos making sure people were ok, making sure they had food and water and offering help. Is that not "assimilated"? (I thought that was a Borg thing(assimilating resistance is futile))

I hope the protesters are going to protest other organizations who have had 1 person accused of something, hhhmmm let me think..catholic churches, abortion protesters, NFL etc etc . I think they will be busyLe

the last time I saw Joe he was filming people who were showing support for Palestine at the torch of friendship. by the time he had edited and published the video all the white and jewish people present, including myself, had disappeared from the event. Zionist extremists in America are actually a lot worse than many Israelis as far as bigoted propaganda goes, and are empowered more so by us congress than the knesset.

Heh don't blame us rural folk (red necks) for the bigots of the Tea Party or the various groups pushing hate. The GOP made up of RICH WHITE MEN from many URBAN regions of this country have been fueling this hate for years and no one cared to tell them they were "unAmerican". In the meantime, I worked in the South during Katrina, as a Muslim American and watched the right wing Christian community fight over bones of "PR" opportunities while denying Americans who were victims of the hurricane of resources solely because they were the "wrong" denomination! Yep... the Problem is RED NECKS its WHITE voters & CHURCHES pushing their hate because it fits their "ENd of the WORLD" paranoid story and they WANT war and all cost... and the rest of AMerica is willing to keep silent on the sidelines while these nut jobs run our nation straight into a world conflict so that THEY (the self-proclaimed righteous) can be "lifted up". Yep... and they way our religious is wacked!? At least in Islam, we teach that each person is judged according to his or her OWN deeds. It don't matter if you are Muslim or non-Muslim. But the way these guys seem to operate ... you are guilty by association. Something quite UN-American! Let alone un-Christian in nature.

Do you even know a Muslim?

please list any or even one situation where you find it acceptable that a group of outsiders from another ethnicity or religion could come to a christian church in margate and demand that it be shut down, whereby the exact same group of people at this press conference wouldn't insist that it is a bigoted, unconstitutional attack on their religion.

yeah, i didn't think so.

When a Christian pastor molests a child, do you shut down the church he belonged to? What a bunch of idiots!!

Until a person is found guilty in the USA they are presumed innocent. That is The American way is it not? The Mosque has not been found guilty of anything, simple logic says the FBI investigated the Mosque before they made the arrest of the Iman and found the Mosque not involved, until they change that the mosque should not be held responsible for a member. Unless you want to hold the Catholic Church accountable for the problems they have had with priests then again I would think that the parishioners would also be help accountable since the collection plate money was used to cover up the " incidents" by the Catholic Church. Hmmm I wonder how many people know where the money they put in the plate goes?

Since they are quoting the Qur'an and interpreting it for their own use, I am sure they have the same issue with the Torah. (you know the whole one God, Jesus hasn't come yet thing)  I just don't remember learning that freedom of religion in the Constitution meant unless someone interprets your holy book differently than theirs.

Um "The GOP made up of RICH WHITE MEN", "watched the right wing christian COMMUNITY", "The problem is Rednecks", "White voters", "Churches", "they WANT war at all cost". "At least in Islam....".Lol after all the generalizations, stereotypes, and finger pointing in your post, I think the funniest quote is when you end with "But the way THESE GUYS seem to operate...you are guilty by association" LMFAO!!!!!Yup. All GOP, Rednecks, White voters, and churches are equally to blame for a segment of the population that chooses to display its ignorance. But "at least in Islam" we don't denigrate another religion by saying "At least in our religion..." thereby indicating an inferiority in that "other" religion that doesn't do whatever the "at least" is that your religion does...lol

You are as much a funny, bearded, camel humping, women-oppressing terrorist about as much as a Republican, white voter, evangelical church, or right-wing christian is an end-of-days war-mongering hate-filled nut job.

Muslims have been GUILTY by simply being Muslim. I won't be surprised if it turns out that its another Izhar Khan or that he sent money home to Pakistan during the earthquake (as did the US govt and many churches) and some of those funds went "missing" into the hands of unsavery types.

We must not forget that even the US tax payer has been "supporting" the Pakistani "Taliban" in the US war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and before that the Russians...were in we sent money & resources, including weapons to the Taliban & Muhjahadeen in our efforts to push the Russians out. We even RECRUITED American Muslims to go to Pakistan & Afghanistan.... (via the CIA based in New York). But that part of our country's involvement seems to have been forgotten since it doesn't fit the Evangelical desire to Make all Muslims "the enemy" during their End of the World War-game agenda.

Sorry,Take out the part about rednecks and replace with "urban whites".I took your mistyped "the problem is rednecks" literally and didn't realize at first that in context you probably meant "the problem ISN'T rednecks its white voters and churches...".Either way, you still do a bang up job of decrying generalizations and stereotypes by generalizing and stereotyping.
