200 MPH on A1A? IndyCar Series Lobbying for Fort Lauderdale Grand Prix

The last time the public heard of someone going over 100 mph on a Fort Lauderdale stretch of the A1A, it included douchebag Ryan LeVin drunkenly driving his Porsche and killing a pair of Britons.

Now the IZOD IndyCar Series wants to hold the Fort Lauderdale Grand Prix on the same stretch of road, pushing 200 mph -- and probably won't involve killing people.

The Sun-Sentinel reports race promoters are trying to bring the Indycar Series to Fort Lauderdale by 2013, after South Florida's tentatively brief hiatus from the race circuit.

Last year was the last for the IndyCar Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but now Fort Lauderdale could be the American equivalent to Formula One's Monaco Grand Prix.

Florida-tied construction executive Dale Dillon and IndyCar driver Ryan Hunter-Reay are promoting the event, the Sentinel reports, and have gotten the go-ahead from the IndyCar Series to explore the race possibilities and engineer a route for the race.

The IndyCar Series, as well as promoters seeking the return of the Air & Sea Show, are meeting with city commissioners next week for tentative approval.

Neither group has asked the city for financial support, according to the paper.

The IndyCar Series currently has 17 races per season across four different countries, with its renowned race obviously being the Indy 500.

As of now, the race promoters are planning a three-day event featuring around 120 drivers on a 2-mile course, with the hopes of national television broadcasting.

"When you look at the backdrop of the beach and the Intracoastal Waterway and the marina, it would be one of the more exciting events that I've seen in my 25 years in IndyCar," Dillon told the Sentinel. "We truly believe that it could rival some of the top races in the world."

Why in the world Broward County or the city of Ft Lauderdale would again deal with Nick Hunter Reay (IndyCar driver Ryan Hunter Reay's father)  is just beyond me...to see why simply Google Nick Hunter Reay.

The International Speedway Corporation (ISC)kicked Indy Car out of all their venues this year. So, no more Sears Point, Watkins Glen,Homestead, etc.

Indy Car has responded by adding exotic venues like downtown Baltimore to their schedule. Ft. Lauderdale next? Who knows?

And, for reference, organizers of the MiamiGrand Prix of the Americas re-applied forpermits to stage the event there once again.

Problem is, the City of Miami was never paidback the $4m they put up in 2001 and IndyCar insisted on having Miami put $7m upthis time.

By the way, they got the permit but not themoney.

Hold your breath on Ft. Lauderdale.

So, Chris, you cocksmoking dunce, you still can't say anything good about the 'league', because there isn't anything good about it.

Are you a Ryan LeVin fan, too, you stupid piece of shit.

Screeching 'troll' and 'bait' just makes you sound like what you really are, a pathetic mental midget, not-talent assclown.

How's that Hulman ass taste?

The irl was made for losers like you. Fortunately you fucking pieces of crap are a tiny, tiny, minority, and always will be.

Did i ever state im a 'league' fan........Nope. You just assumed so because i goaded you over champcar ........

Your blind rage is funny. You proposition ideas and statements without fact. And then use rather basic , lacking in any major intellect, agressive cuss words to defend yourself.

I dont have to be a fan of indycar to have fun at your expense.

Fortunately for the majority of us not seething with rage, you are in a small majority of  bitter angry deluded 'fans' living in the past. How many remembers does crapwagon have now? 12?

Let's face it, Fort Lauderdale isn't Monte Carlo. And the IRL certainly isn't Formula 1. F1 and Monaco have 60+ years of tradition together, galmour, glitz and glory, not to mention Ferrari. What does the IRL have? The Indy 500? Name the winner (here's a hint, it wasn't Danica!)

If residents want to put up with miles of Jersey barriers and catch fencing to run a one-off (or 2 year) street circus so be it. Ask the folks in St Pete, Edmonton, Cleveland, or even Long Beach how good of a show the IRL puts on. National TV exposure? Ever heard of Versus?

Good luck on it, it will be as successful as the Grand Prix of Palm Beach. Anyone remember that one?

The irl is a complete fraud masquerading as motorsport. This is nothing but a cheap, lame, shoddy imitation of the old CART series, but with none of the qualities that made it successful and quite popular for many years.

The 'league' has horrendously poor attendance, people actively avoid these 'events' even when they try to give away tickets (witness this past weekends disaster in Milwaukee), and the league is notorious for making completely false economic impact claims using old CART data.

The television ratings for the irl are an absolute joke. The idea that this rolling heap of garbage wagons would somehow showcase the city is an absolute myth.

This would be an absolute disaster for Ft Lauderdale to involve itself with these Indiana scumbags.

Hey Stan, guess what? Your beloved chumpcar went bust. twice

Typical Hulmanista garbage. You can't speak about the fact that the 'league' is an outright fucking fraud, and instead screech on about CART.

Fortunately, assholes like you are very few in numbers, as is evidenced by the dismal ratings and attendance for those irl abortions masquerading as races.

Pretty funny how you hypocrites whined and moaned about the evils of street races for years, then when you were told otherwise by Anton the idiot, you obediently continued to lick the boot. Fucking moron.

I suppose you'd want Ryan LeVin to drive the pace car too.

For clarification, I'm just "liking" the idea of letting Ryan LeVin driving the pace car.

Excellent Idea

Laudy Beach Dude
Laudy Beach Dude

There are so many variables I can think of that will make this close to impossible or cost taxpayers millions to manage.

-No stretch of road on the beach is larger than two lanes.-Hundreds of beach-side residents would be trapped in their condos, and I hear they are persnickety about loud noises as well.-Traffic would come to a standstill.-EMS and Police overtime hours would run rampant on the taxpayer's dime.-Promotion of race cars on a stretch of beach where we try try and promote alternative transportation methods to ease congestion. An oxymoron?-Relaxing on the beach with smell of gasoline permeating everything.-God forbid there is an accident injuring anyone or destroying public or private property.

I'm sure I could think of a few others, but you get the point.

Is this really why people go to the beach, to get a petroleum adrenaline rush, or kick back relax and enjoy the splendor of nature? The only reason the roads should ever be closed on the beach is for pedestrian traffic.

Apparently you never took in the St. Pete road race.   On the circuit, it was one of the top venues.
