Jim Notter, apparently an irreplaceable figure
Apparently finding the Broward County School District superintendent is about as hard as becoming the president of Egypt -- because no one wants to do either one right now.

That's probably why when the deadline passed for superintendent applicants yesterday,  and district officials had to sift through the zero applications they received to find a replacement.

Current Superintendent Jim Notter is retiring at the end of this month, and the district is looking for someone to be the interim replacement to run the district over the summer.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, district Chief Operations Officer Donnie Carter threw his name in there, but then backed out when he realized he didn't have a master's degree -- a requirement for the job.

Then the district lowered the requirement so candidates didn't have to have a master's degree, but Carter didn't make the same mistake and apply again.

The district didn't open the job to outside applicants, which probably didn't help.

So who's going to watch over the budget cuts and teacher assignments over the summer?

The unlucky sap the school board is going to hand-pick next week.

Unless you want to become the new Hosni Mubarak Jim Notter, it'd be safe to stay off the board's radar until after they meet again June 7.
