Chad Henne: New Times' Best Sports Bust.
New Times Best of Broward-Palm Beach edition is here, folks.

If you noticed that Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne took the cake for biggest sports bust, you might wonder if we're second-guessing our selection of Henne over LeChoke LeBron James.

We're not.

We'll admit, University of Michigan quarterbacks -- sans Tom Brady -- have an extraordinary track record of being miserable in the NFL.

Henne is the career passing yards leader at Michigan, but the next three top passers didn't do so well either: John Navarre, Elvis Grbac, and Todd Collins. Henne is also the school's leader in completions in touchdowns, and those other three are close behind.

But Henne had one thing going for him that's never been done in college football -- he beat Tim Tebow in a bowl game. Henne threw for 373 yards and two touchdowns in the 41-35 Capital One Bowl victory over the Gators.

Then Henne was selected by the Dolphins with the 57th pick in the 2008 draft.

He was mostly benched during his first year, when Chad Pennington led Miami to their first AFC East title since 2000. In his first year as the starter in 2009, he led the club to a mediocre 7-9 record, with more interceptions than touchdowns, and was sacked 26 times.

Then he did it again in 2010, except this time with more interceptions and being sacked more times.

The only thing keeping Dolphins fans happy about the 2011 season is that Henne can't throw the football during a lockout -- and this is the guy who beat Tim Tebow in a bowl game.

LeBron James, on the other hand, didn't come to Miami as a guy who was known for winning big games.

He's got dunks, Sprite commercials, and some other highlight-reel moves. But he was on a Heat team that played (and, of course, lost) in the NBA Championship in James' first appearance with the Heat.

We get it. He's cocky, promised championships, and plays alongside two of the other greatest players in the league, while Henne's best target is a guy who allegedly got stabbed by his wife.

Have you ever gone to a Dolphins game just to watch the great plays Henne makes? No.

Was he in the Bahamas a couple months ago dancing with fake boobs stuffed in his shirt? Yes.

Best Sports Bust of 2011 -- Chad Henne.

This spawns from Lisa Rab and Eric Barton hating LeBron. That comes from neither of them knowing anything at all about sports. Norman and Mooney were the sports guys.

I don't know where you get your information, but it's not quite supported by reputable sources.  Stanford used to be Quarterback U until 1980.  Only now do they have anyone that will go pro.

Miami,Maryland, Oklahoma, USC, Florida, Florida State, Michigan (according to ESPN, College Football News and Rivals), and several others are considered much better over the last 30 years.

Ohio State?  Other than Troy Smith, the last one came from the 1970's.  So don't make me laugh.

First off, I love to see that you are writing sports articles. Secondly, don't be hating on Lebron, he brought his talents to South Beach and just because the dinosaur (Chris Bosh) couldn't guard Dirka Dirk they went home empty handed. Chad Henne though, that's a quality pick for biggest bust of 2011. But I would be willing to ship out Derek Anderson, Max Hall, or Levi Brown for the ole' Henne anyday.

They may not all work out, but I'll bet that more quarterbacks from Michigan have had a shot at the NFL then from any other university.

Quarterbacks that played at Michigan that also played in the NFL since Bo Schembelcher or at least were drafted to play:

Dennis Franklin 1972-1974Rick Leach 1975-1978 drafted but chose to play baseballJohn Wangler 1979-1980Jim Harbaugh 1985-1986Elvis Grbac 1990-1992Todd Collins 1993-1994Brian Griese 1995-1997Tom Brady 1998-1999 Drew Henson 1998-2000  played baseball and footballJohn Navarrre 2001-2003Chad Henne 2004-2007

And in the Future:  Denard Robinson 2010 - pres.

Name another team that produced more.

But I don't think all of those went on and played in the NFL.  Moon, Brunell, Hobert, Tuiasosopo,  Chandler, Pelluer, Millen, Stanback, Flick, and Damon Huard did.  Locker will.

Can't find that Pickett, Brock Huard, and Conklin ever did.   Good job.

A local paper and your bashing Lebron jump on the nations bandwagon of hate. You should be kicked out of here!!!!! Personally I will not read or support anything from this post afterwards. You are supposed to bring up the home team and it's players not putting them down! Go fly off the face of Florida and while ur at it drop off the world. Tired of all the ppl bashing another human being as if we were perfect and never made a mistake.

I really don't understand the NewTimes' angle here. This is our team, and the Heat gave us the most fun season I can remember. Sucks they didn't win a championship but it was a wild ride. I am a huge supporter of the NewTimes news reporting over the Sun-Sen, but I think they might be out of their element here.

This is the eulogy the Heat season deserved:

This is what we got from the NewTimes:

http://blogs.browardpalmbeach....

I understand that the NewTimes doesn't have a team of sports writers, but there is no need for the hate from a local paper.

I didn't give LeBron hate -- I'm pretty sure I just vindicated him from being the bust he's accused of being.

Also because Lebron had an outstanding season, played amazing clutch basketball against the best teams in the East, led his team to the NBA finals and was heartbreakingly close to a championship. Of course, the Broward NewTimes buys whole-heartedly into the national anti-Lebron hysteria, and instead of taking an "us against the world" stance that a local paper should consider taking, the NewTimes piles it on. This is why it was a tough call and why this explanation was necessary.

I don't think anyone disliked chad henne more then i did, however when i went to dallas for the super bowl,i just happen to be seated next to Don Shula on the airplane and he told me himself that chad was good now, and will really be a great quarterback for the dolphins,if anyone ever told me that i would say there fn nuts, but coming from Don Shula and i like him, and have to say if anyone in the world knows about football and players it would be him,and when i said he's not like Dan he said nobody is like Dan. lol And next year the Heat will roll with a new coach, and win the chapionship.
