21 Jump Street Bust Sent Narcs in School for Small Target: Weed

Palm Beach County cops went all Johnny Depp in three schools.
Back when Johnny Depp played an undercover cop on 21 Jump Street, it seemed that gangs were the big problem in schools. Depp's character regularly infiltrated some murder-hungry group with the intention of bringing them down from the inside.

It's hard to argue against cops in schools when it comes to them breaking up murder plots. But when Palm Beach County police revealed a major undercover sting operation last week, the target was very different: weed.

"Operation D Minus" put a fresh-faced rookie cop in three high schools, where she collected evidence that led to the arrest of 30 people, most fellow students who, the undercover cop says, brought
up pot sales to her in school. The ridiculously named operation is expected to continue another year with other undercover cops.

And that's frightening to some rights organizations, who have complained about the idea of undercover cops in schools. The ACLU has developed suggested rules governing cops in schools, arguing, among other things, that students shouldn't be arrested in school.

"It's scary. You have nonstudents, nonteachers sneaking around talking to kids," the ACLU's Jennifer Shaw told the Seattle Times after a similar undercover operation in Washington state. "Our kids should be sent to school to learn. To bring somebody in to do an undercover investigation is frightening."

Sure, the idea of narcs in school is far from a new concept. But busting kids for pot in South Florida is like catching jaywalkers on Clematis Street. We are a state, after all, where a majority of us think medicinal marijuana ought to be legal. More kids smoke weed than cigarettes, according to the federal government, so those 30 kids busted in Operation D Minus are likely not some 21 Jump Street-style weed gang flashing guns.

As part of "Operation D Minus," the undercover cop reportedly tried to blend in, even getting a serenaded offer to the prom. If the undercover cops who are continuing the mission really wanted to fit in and find out about some serious crimes, they should probably start hitting the bong.

The undercovers name was apparently "Naomi" she showed up in my math class randomly one day saying she just moved into town from NYC and start talking to all the kids nonchalantly and then brought up weed asked where she could get. now this was a good looking women so off course kids were gonna say yes and help the "cute girl" out and then she mysteriously vanished then a month later buddy in that class gets arrested. There were rumors of undercovers going around my school (Jupiter High School) but weren't sure who it was until the day about almost all of JPD showed up on campus. I find it kinda creepy knowing i talked to a 20 some year old thinking she was my age. And they only went after pot which is nothing, soooo many kids there do such worse things like coke and ecstasy and there mostly the  younger kids, iv seen 15 year old freshman do lines of coke at party's. The district and sheriffs office want to do something good focus on that and not weed. I hope everyone finds this helpful as its coming from a student who went there this past year. thank god i graduated.

Pathetic. Waste of time and money for something harmless. They need to realize it's a health problem not a criminal act. Nomatter how hard they try to stop this, they are wasting time. Vote for Ron paul if your as fed up as me.

I see this kind of state sponsored activity (war on drugs) as a war on American people.  Taking low level crime and housting it on our youth will not get them educated.  Filling the pipe from the school house to the jail house, is not the way to redirect the lives of our children.   From everything that I see happening, there is an all out attempt to remove various segments of our population away from working and educating themselves because the current paradyme no longer needs their bodies or their minds

WHY is our County sending undercover cops that are perverted pedofilers into our highschools and getting paid to do so. This article makes me sick and also brings back memories when I went to Jupiter High School. There was an undercover cop in my math class whom would hit on the teacher, hit on me and i also know for a fact had sex with an underage girl(s). Fucking 16 years old when your 30 is FUCKED UP!  The cop i believe he went by the name Alex.. would go to highschool parties and act like he's your friend. I witnessed him smoking herb and drinkning beers more than once.  I could tell he wasn't your average high schooler because he was a grown man and i called him out on it numerous times!  This is soooo wrong i feel bad for all the highschoolers!

What a waste of time and money.  So now these kids get their lives ruined for a victimless crime.  You could do this operation every day forever and guess what? It won't change a thing.  Teens will be teens.  Just wasted tax dollars and justification for a bloated police force.  If they were really interested in safety, you would think they would go after something that is really a problem, like RX pills and guns.

As part of the undercover operation I had to have sex with many of the teenagers so I didn't blow job my cover.  I mean cover my blow job.  I mean blow my cover.  Damn this weed is good.

I am a conservative and teaparty member.  I really think we are becoming a police state and I don't like it.  I especially don't like this undercover nonsense.  I bet the cops are real proud of themselves.  I wonder how many kids they entrapped.
