Interresting article. Seems this guy popular on florida.arrests.com. My impression was he is in some way getting arrested for loitering because of his looks and the way expresses himself. I know James, I see him in handcuffs and leg shackles, each and every time, The Lauderhill police Department hauls him into jail for loitering at the local McDonalds or hitting people up for money..

In Broward's Mental Health Court these are the people we struggle to provide and restore dignity to; in addition to getting them swiftly out of jail where they can be hurt and preyed upon by other inmates and back home.

Ironically, in a few weeks a meeting will be held with Lauderhill Police officials to make recommendations in policing strategies to divert James and others with serious mental illness away from arrest and potential harm .

Perhaps these images will help drive that reform and sway police officials to find a better way to respond to persons with severe mental illness who need quality treatment not jail. Maybe , they could serve some positive purpose other than demeaning and ridiculing those in need.
