Was the Tea Party Rally Sabotaged?

trumpwest.jpg
Art Seitz
A wide-eyed West greets Donald Trump yesterday in Boca (thanks to Art Seitz for the photo).
The Fort Lauderdale Tea Party rally on Friday at the Fireman's Benevolent Hall was full of hot air.

And most of it, surprisingly, wasn't coming from the mouths of the raging Republi-cons inside the building. The hall was a steaming 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the attendees, who had led a sparsely attended protest earlier that day at the federal courthouse, had to wait for hours for their darling, Congressman Allen West, to get back from D.C. and give them a much-needed pep talk.

It was a sweaty, miserable affair. The air conditioner in the hall didn't seem to be working. Or as Fort Lauderdale Tea Party leader Gabriel Jose Carrera put it, the air conditioner "kept shutting off mysteriously."

Oh yeah, there was another conspiracy theory at work here -- and it had nothing to do with Barack Obama's place of birth. This was sabotage! Inside, find out who the culprit was.
Carrera and his Tea Party cohorts suspected the firefighters themselves.

Rumors grew that the union members were falsely told that the Tea Party had a website "trashing" the firefighters, Carrera wrote on his website. "It was also alleged that the after party to be held after the Tax Day Protest was really an anti-union rally."

We may never know if the firefighters had some fun with climate control at the expense of the Tea Party, but it was clear that the union had no love for the group of extremists in their room. As Carrera wrote, the union took down Tea Party signs "so as not to associate themselves with Tea Party attendees," canceled their own karaoke event, and shut down the back bar that night.

Of course they did. While Carrera kept trying to rebuke "rumors," he and his ilk certainly have no legs to stand on when it comes to police, firefighters, or anyone else who belongs to a union.

Thumbnail image for trumpinvite.jpg
The Pulp's invite
The Tea Party showed what it thinks of unions up in Wisconsin. The Tea Party wants to crush unions. It hates unions. Even in an emailed invite to the union hall party, Tea Partiers cited the need to fight the unions.

"Unions are pushing legislators to 'break the bank' with their demands," the invite read.

(It also boasted that Sheriff Al Lamberti was going to attend. Not sure if Lamberti, who has his own problems with unions, showed up or not, but I never really thought of him as a Tea Party type.)

So if the Tea Party hates unions, what does it love? Why, arrogant billionaires, of course.

The next day, the Tea Party hosted Donald Trump (and Allen West) in Boca Raton in an event that was seen as his first stump speech in a GOP presidential run.

So fitting. The Tea Party pretends to be a populist movement -- but it's always really been about the Trumps of the world. It wants to protect the ultrarich like Trump and the Tea Party-funding Koch brothers from paying taxes. At the same time, it wants to cut spending on schools, health care, and transportation. Cut the massive fraud and waste that goes on in defense spending?

Never!

Tea Party members claim to love America as the only true "patriots"? The fact that they want to decimate the country's infrastructure, gut public education, and force more people to do without health care indicates they don't love America -- or Americans -- at all. They love obscene wealth, guns, and their own scant dollars and penny-ante gold investments (the ignorant folk in the Tea Party rarely have any real money themselves).

More coming.

So many liberals are furious with tea-partiers. Sorry, but we're just fed up with over-spending, over-taxing, over socializing, and "change." What's changed? Is it that we spent a disturbing amount of money? Don't respond with another "well bush this and that," because he was an idiot too, but if you think that you make a country stong by taking from the strong and distributing it to the weak... you're dead wrong.

I am just so impressed with the so called party of tolerance and the way they spew vile hatred at anyone who does not agree to their class warfare - socialist beliefs. For you enlightened knuckleheads who cleverly refer to Tea party folks as teabaggers; I have a clever name to describe you and what and who you truly are: Carpetbaggers Yes, you are nothing but 21 century carpetbaggers who rob and steal from the non union, non government employee, non socialist real Americans. Those that can - Do Those that cannot - form or join unions and or work for the government so they cannot be fired and replaced based on their non competence and lack of productive ability. The funniest part is that you do not even see the real motive behind this socialist movement you so embrace. You are the cannon fodder of those 60's radicals that launched the long term plan of bankrupting America so the Government would collapse. They think they will then rebuild it under socialism/communism. Do you really think the ruling class will make room for you? Ha, you are and will be nothing more than proletariat. Yes, a worker bee totally dependant on the rulers for the bread crumbs they will toss you. Most of America is catching on and figuring it all out. How is it that you do not poses the mental capability to see it as well? Are you stupid or just so brainwashed and owned by the system that you have lost the ability to think for yourself. I truly feel pity for those of you who have been so totally duped and addicted to the government cheese. I see your ilk everyday. Helpless and dependent on the sweat of some others brow to support your unproductive and meaningless life. Yup, it's everyone elses fault and not your that your life is a manual on failure. It's a shame you never found your big boy pants; instead you suckle on the socialist teat.

Teabaggers are terrorist filth, ideologically similar to bin Laden, but apparently more interested in anonymous homosexual encounters in public toilets.

Both terrorist groups need to be eradicated, wiped from the planet.

Listen sheeple you have been lied to, abused, cheated and mislead. Go read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand published over 50 years ago and now in every language. One of the most widely read books after the Koran and the Bible.

The powers that be don't want you to read this book because they are afraid of the knowlege and truth contained therein. Educate yourselves.

Either the Tea Party organizers are brilliant or morons. By securing the Firefighters facility, they could create controversy or set themselves up for payback. I would like to believe they are idiots, but who knows. If they were brilliant they would send themselves white powder mail, ( possibility of the event 2 weeks ago or not), create A/C sabotage scenario, or not. Pick one.

BTW, the Ft Laud Firefighters retirement benefits package is not taxpayer funded, contrary to what tea baggers would like themselves and you to believe. It is employee funded. Just another example of misguided rage fueled by invalid assumptions.

It's a fact that Trump has contributed to both political parties, but has given much more to the Democrates. He's an egotistical opportunist. I can see him perhaps siding more with Repulicans than the Tea Baggers. I personally don't think he believes in their extreme right ideology.

Trump can win by seeing that someone who is presidential gets into office. Then he can say forever, that he won without every taking responsibility for running the country. He knows how to talk the talk, then let someone else walk the walk. If they fail, it wasn't him who failed. If they win, he takes the credit. Very smart guy, I'd say.

It really sad that the argument has degerated in this country. When did it become wrong to aspire? When did become wrong to become wealthy. When did become wrong to become successful?

I can't believe we have downgraded our society to a nanny state where so many feel entitled. I would die before I sought a handout from the government. Healthcare? Work hard and make enough to buy your own!

Somewhere, somehow, this argument has been orchestrated to take away the true American ideals. Now we are seemingly fighting our way to accept medicority. To accept handouts instead of "help up".

The writer of this article is being paid for his work, based on the number of errors and vitriol, he probably gets paid accordingly. But whatever his wages are now, I doubt he works for free and I doubt that he'd turn down more money if so offered.

So is the writer wrong for having a job at this site, would he be wrong if he honed his skills (greatly needed btw) and got a better position higher up the editorial food chain?

Maybe one day he could actually understand Capitalism and he would be successful enough to own his own successful site making millions. Would he then be a bad guy as well?

And if he did begin making millions, the question to ask Mr. Norman is how much of your money would you like to have the government take away and give to someone else?

It's really easy to say you would welcome excessive taxation when you aren't paying any...or all that much.

Stan...you must be one of those loud mouthed demonstrators who is told to go to Tea Party (organized) rallies by the corrupt unions or people such as Move On,Org.

This biased and liberal website does not show people like you, who spew hate at TP rallies, it only "TRIES" to make conservatives look like villians. The hate from the left at some of the rallies are nothing more then sick people who hate our Country and will do and say anything to try to stop people from having the right to "FREE" speech.

This website has not changed at all. I started reading the comments when the SR saga was going on. I realized then what hateful people live in our community and so sad, still do. They have not changed in the year and a half I found out about this place of madness. It is the same boring, disgruntled, people with no life, who entertain themselves on this moronic place of what you all "THINK" is newsworthy. I find most of you vulgar, misinformed, blindsighted and hateful. It is really sad you all live such a life of dark thoughts.

Actually, much of Trump's money (past tense) was because of his father, Fred C. Trump. Fred Trump made some smart development moves, but always made sure that the middle class communities he developed had the services it needed for the people who lived there. It was "smart" development.

As for Donald, your presidential-caliber guy, which of his many bankrupcies do you want to talk about first. I have a friend handling several of them. He ran his father's "do well by doing good" fortune (which he inherited) into the ground.

Your comment is just plain wrong. The problems we face in this country today is because neither side is listening to the other. Stop your nonsense talking points and just listen. No one has said that being rich is a crime. No one has said that being successful is a crime. But your assertion that being poor, or unsuccessful makes you a lazy, entitled loser is equally wrong. Government assistance is NOT for those who choose not to work and seek handouts. Not to say that there aren't people who abuse the system. There will always be unethical people of all walks of life. BUT, government assistance is designed to help people who have fallen on bad times and need a TEMPORARY helping hand. The goal being to quickly get a new job and back on your feet.

Republicans fail to realize is that in a society we are all responsible for each other. If we cut unemployment benefits, more people will lose their homes and live on the street. Crime rates would increase and the overall wellbeing of our communities would deteriorate. By extending temporary unemployment benefits, you are spending LESS money in the long run to keep our society from falling apart.

Republicans cannot see the forest through the trees.

When did it become wrong to be altruistic?

Your mind is stuck in old stereotypes. "Nanny state." "Handouts."

Rampant cronyism and fascism rule the day. Banksters and government contractors suck the life blood out of this country, nearly completely decimating the middle class and you parrot old stale fantasies about poor lazy freeloaders, most likely minorities in your mind, taking money from hard working millionaires. As if.

Gregg, I don't think the billionaires need your advocacy. They'll be just fine on their own.

And it's not wrong to become wealthy or successful. Donald Trump isn't disliked because of his wealth or "success" but because he's a cartoon character and an opportunistic douche. He's an entertainer, and a lousy one at that. He's not a serious contender for President any more than Joe Francis, founder of Girls Gone Wild, is.

The point is that there is nothing wrong with aspiring to do well be successful and wealthy. What about the elderly or the arts or medical assistance to the portion of the population that need that help from a government subsidy. What about the Teachers or government workers who accepted a smaller salary in the hopes that in the future they would have a comfortable retirement. The wealthy(over $250,000 per year) can afford and should pay a higher tax rate than those not making that much. This is the American way and has always been to assist those less fortunate.

Model Citizen

Gregg, the basic tenet of universal healthcare is that everyone is to procure their own health insurance, lessening the burden on the taxpayer that covers the cost of care for those without insurance. It's a conservative principal -- pay your own way -- and "Obamacare" was based on Mitt Romney's plan that enjoys great success in Mass.

Model maybe you should stay on point...I never mentioned billionaires. I'm supporting anyone who makes a living. Government has no right to take my money nor that of you or even the "horrible" billionaires. That's my point. We've earned our own way and forget stereotypes...put in whatever word that you want.

I don't have a problem whatsoever with altruism. In fact I live my life by it. However, government entitlement is not altruism and is not even found in the meaning of the word. Altruism defines charity...not taxation. The GOVERNMENT is not needy. I can decide for myself who I wish to be the subject of my altruistic endeavors. I don't and will not allow a politician to decide that for me.

FYI...you are also assuming incorrectly, that I am referring to minorities. I'm a minority myself who never received a dime of government money, came from a broken home, got out of the inner city, to start and sell numerous businesses.

So don't even begin to tell me about minority hardship. I lived it, emerged and greatly prospered. And never needed any government intervention. Since...I have also helped others, again without any governement intervention.

So you can save the rhetoric.

Hey Model, I wasn't talking about Trump, I was referring to the ideology of the author of this article and the increasingly apparent opposition to the promulgation of wealth.

Gregg
Gregg

All that Glitters...who in the #$%^ has the authority to tell me what I can and can't afford??? Certainly not the government. If I work hard, grow my portfolio and want to by a boat or a villa in Spain are you telling me that I can't and that I should have to pay a higher tax rate to pay for somebody else becasue you deem that I can afford it? What makes my bills less important than yours because I make moe money?

And as for helping the unfortunate, I have no problem with that. It's called charity. I can CHOOSE to give my assistance to those I choos ein the manner I choose to. The government should not tell me how to do so.

Here's a question that no one seems to ever answer. That being...how much should we be expected to be taken from us? 30%, 40%, 50% 60%? When is enough? Are you prepared to do the same? Can government simply tell you that you make enough?

Would you be so supportive of Obama's ways if you had to give up 60% of your income? What will you do when that happens? Run the numbers. There simply aren't enough people making 250k or more to even put a bandaid on the spending. What will you do when $45k is considered too much.

Gregg
Gregg

Hey Model...Romney's plan enjoys great success in Massachusetts??? You might want to read up on that one.

But in any regard, I wasn't talking about healthcare, I was speaking of the authors slanted view on the wealthy and how tea party supporters are basically the scum of the earth who "love obscene wealth", "decimate the country's infrastructure", "gut public education", and "force more people to do without health care"... that's what I have a serious problem with. The author merely uses his keyboard as a weapon with no foundation whatsoever to stand upon.

He writes merely to stir up the masses. The ignorant masses at that.

I love when you meet an argument with intelligence and the opposition resorts to name calling. It really shows the true color of the person who can not vocalize and substantiate their point of view and merely begins to be profane.

Your comments simply go to underscore what we all know. You don't want to be confused by the truth.

Since you have no idea what my "fair share" nor do you have any idea that I'm not paying said fair share, I suggest you get a bigger bucket to continue your vomiting.

Meanwhile, I have to go. This has been nice. But I need some sleep before we meet at the marina to board the sport fishing boat for a trip to bimini. And while I'm there I'll be sure to hold a meeting at my house so that I can write off the entire trip.

So let me say thank you in advance for your time at work tomorrow paying for my trip. You see, the pendulum swings both ways my friend.

I'll think of you while we're sipping some cold Coronas, trawling for some sailfish on our way over to Bimini.

Gregg
Gregg

Hey Model...have you actually read the Constitution? I mean seriously read it? I'm not sure but I don't think it says anywhere that you get 96 weeks of payment because you can't find a job. I'm not sure but I don't think it says that you should get a seemingly unlimited supply of food stamps. I'm not sure but I don't think it says that your rent should be paid in finitem. I'm not sure but I don't think it says that you should get free abortions.

I could go on and on but I think a "reasonable' person could see that the system is being abused badly. As for military spending, I'm not advocating war but with what's going on in the world I have no problem with the bulk of defense spending.

The biggest concern I have is that if government simply thinks it can raise taxes to fund shortfalls, then there is no incentive to substantially roll back spending. It's too easy to say take from those who have.

I don't know anyone who doesn't understand that a certain level of taxation is needed but it's hard to get buy in when I see able bodied people sucking in 96 weeks of unemployment or people having 8 kids and using the system for a free ride...how about this, let's make people responsible and accountable for their own well being. How about 18 weeks of unemployment and that's it. How about 12 month limit on free rent. How about no abortions unless rape or incest, how about a cap on food stamps how about incentives paid to become more self sustaining.

The welfare system is broken. I can take you to neighborhoods that are near where i gre up where the same families are still living on government assistance some 40 years later. That's absurd.

A return to accountability should be the ideology. Then maybe a lot of people wouldn't feel like they are being hosed simply because they are successful.

Gregg, your beloved Constitution gave the government the right to take some of our money for the common good. You can argue all day about how much is reasonable but you're not a very serious person if you don't realize that an overwhelming reason why this country is the greatest in the world is that we pool together our resources to do good deeds and protect the weak with our strong military. Where do you think the money comes from that pays soldiers and educates the masses?

The tax rate during the 50's for the wealthiest Americans was 50%. Today it is 30% and the wealthier control a much larger percentage of America's GDP then they did back then. So the wealthiest Americans make more, pay less taxes, and the middle class and lower class are left with a much greater burden.

And none of your comments are factually accurate. You say "There simply aren't enough people making 250k or more to even put a bandaid on the spending."This is complete crap. Eliminating the Bush tax cuts would pay for Universal Healthcare for all Americans.

So what better for our country and society? Free healthcare for all Americans so we can be a happier, healthier and more productive nation, or the richest Americans getting to keep an extra 10% or their income?

Your myopic and selfish views are not the majority. If you do not want to pay your fair share and contribute to your community, then go find a place to live where you can be self sufficient. But if you choose to live in our society where you enjoy the benefits of infrastructure, public hospitals, public schools, police, fire, etc...then you must contribute your fair share. The rich do not contribute their fair share today and THAT MUST CHANGE NOW!!!

Wow...don't you love how people support bs comments by leaving out the true info in an article...Model did you miss this quote in the article

"But why, if the top income tax rate in the U.S. is 35 percent, are the very, very wealthy paying such a small percent of their income into taxes? Short answer: tax breaks. There are built-in tax breaks in every bracket that everyone can take advantage of,"

Notice the part where it says EVERYONE CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF...so now you see, these are not tax breaks for the rich and famous, you can take advantage of them yourself...amazing. People don't understand this stuff. Wake Up...do you realize that in fact the wealthy liberal politicians actually employ conservative financial strategies themselves?? Maybe one day you'll all realize the political shell game being played upon you and wake up.

By the way, check John Kerry's tax strategies, or even Hillary Clinton's or Nancy Pelosi's...you'll be amazed to see how conservatism works when you want it to work. But it just sounds so compelling when you hear them fighting for the wee little people doesn't it. Makes you feel all good inside to know they actually care and walk the walk doesn't it? Makes you probably break out in goosebumps doesn't it.

But alas, then you fall off the bed, bump your head and reality sets in. Well hopefully one day it will.
