9-Year-Old Slapped by Teacher: Update From Fort Pierce PD

• Hmmm, were there any student witnesses in this classroom when teacher "slapped" this kid so hard that weeks later marks are still there? Sounds to me like momma is looking for some easy money based on her distorted perception/lies coupled with her son's fabrications as well..... maybe he's looking for a little TLC that's appartently missing at HOME! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

• Did this reporter look at the first report on palm beach post? The police saw no marks on his face the next day? Where did NEW MARKS come from...The boy and mom has changed story.... According to a police report, the 9-year-old boy said he was slapped in a classroom on Thursday. Police said the boy told him that he had laughed at a friend who had told a joke and was approached by the teacher in the classroom. The boy said the teacher slapped him and told him that he would be slapped again if he continued to laugh. The boy said he stopped laughing and told his mother he had been slapped when he got home. Police said they did not see any scratches or marks on the boy's face.

• Not really sure how the view is from there considering I live (as best as I can discern) app. 3000 miles away from that part of his anatomy. But thanks for asking.

• This is why I used a "?" in my comment. I am not aware of current Broward County School Board policy regarding corporal punishment, although during my time in Broward Schools, 1983 to 1992, I do know of instances corporal punishment administered at the elementary level by the principal after the principal called the parents of the kids to be spanked. Nor am I aware of St. Lucie School Board's policies, which covers this Ft. Pierce school. Are you lost? Ft. Pierce is not in Broward County.

• Uhhhh, did you not understand "Update"? More information was gathered that was not available at the time of the original post. Reading comprehension is a valuable tool.

• Both of you commentors before me are as lost as the author of this article. Broward County DOES not allow corporal punishment at all. Was this update even necessary? This all could have been written about with the original story. Is it really that hard to write and REPORT on a story??????

• So, momma lied about the counseling. And it depends on the District Broward lover. If you signed a piece of paper saying "yes the school can administer corporal punishment" your school can administer corporal punishment. I do believe it was wrong for the teacher to slap the child. I also feel it was wrong for the mother to lie.

• Teachers are allowed to administer corporal punishment on the fly? And when is slapping a kids across the face so hard to leave a mark considered corporal punishment appropriate for a public school? I thought corporal punishment was for the principal to administer (with a paddle on the butt, not slapping the face and leaving a mark) after the teacher reports the kid. Teachers should never slap kids in their classroom. If the State Attorney saw nothing wrong with it, does that mean we all can slap kids across the face and not get arrested for child abuse? I've seen some unruly kids and would like to "stand loco parentis" and slap them too.
