Jose Canseco Sued by Shady Boxing Promoter, Hired by Obscure Baseball Team
Now, the promoter of that celebrity boxing match, Damon Feldman, has filed a lawsuit against Canseco for breach of contract. Feldman said that he advanced Canseco $5,000 before the fight because the former major-league slugger needed money to pay for his father's funeral.
"I felt bad for Jose, but I don't feel bad now," Feldman told the Associated Press. "I feel bad for myself."
Canseco insisted that Feldman was aware Ozzie would be fighting because Jose was depressed about their father's death. He also noted Feldman's own dubious credibility, as he recently pleaded no contest to fixing fights in Pennsylvania and is now prohibited from promoting fights in the state.
Well, if Jose and Ozzie need some extra money, their new gig in Yuma, Arizona, should help. The brothers will be co-managers and players for the Yuma Scorpions of the North American League, according to the Yuma Sun.
Perhaps the Cansecos can pump some life into the Scorpions, who finished with the worst record in the league in 2009, after they traded their entire team for a roster of Colombian players.
