There are more (after 9/11) Federal Law Enforcement agents than there have ever been before. Those are the real facts. Every politician voted to fund/create all of the new jobs/technologies to keep us "safe" The fact is we are no more or less safe than we were on 09/10/01. What has prevented attacks has not been the detection of the devices prior to boarding a plane/train/bus/ what have you... It has been citizens standing up and preventing the attack. Those are the realities. You have no idea the amount of Federal Dollars that have gone to local LE and FD's for FEMA and Counter Terrorism. Out of fear we just go with it. Think about this... What caused more fear in people, The DC snipers or 9/11? Not to downplay 9/11 because it was a day that will "live in infamy" but to think that terrorism cant happen again because of the expansion of TSA, DHS, FEMA is jsut ridiculous.
