Government Shutdown Will Backfire on Republicans

House-II4.jpg
If the government shuts down at midnight tonight, it won't be the first time.

The same thing happened at the end of 1995, when a U.S. House led by Newt Gingrich pulled the stunt on Bill Clinton.

We all know how that ended. The public blamed the Republicans for the shutdown, and Clinton cruised to his second term.

Will it happen again? Of course it will. It's exactly the same. In 1995, there was a Republican Congress full of newbies who dreamed of destroying the government. Same today with the Tea Party candidates. Is this really about spending? Of course not.

If it were about spending, they'd easily slice out billions in unnecessary defense funding. This is about social issues and the GOP's desire to give the corrosive Tea Party a piece of raw meat. You hear about the "riders" that are holding this thing up? The Tea-drinking Republicans want to defund Planned Parenthood, gut environmental protection, and take more health care from people.

It's their way.

But mark this down: They are sowing -- and have been sowing -- the seeds for a big loss come next year.

NOPE, it won't...

Sowing a big loss?

How out of touch are you?

All the things you mention in your uniformed screed (defund Planned Parent etc.) are exactly why Americans and the Tea Party voted the Dems out in and the Repubs in - in the biggest election up shake up in 80 years.

Tim
Tim

Shouldn't the Dems have passed the 2010 budget in 2010 when they controlled the all three branches of government?

How is that the Republican's fault?

Jwhitson23
Jwhitson23

By the way Bob, call me after the next election and let us see if GO Bama is re elected and Dems still control the US Senate........... I think not, people gave Go Bama a chance to see if his policies would work, so far 2 years in the people who gave him a chance are sorely disappointed

keep dreamin! why is it when the Republicans work to make government smaller and more accountable folks like you get upset because you feel government is deemed as the big brother responsible for caring for all the folks who do not or feel they cannot take care of themselves. I think you are wrong. Cutting the deficit which is what the Republicans are trying to accomplish. Its funny I saw a sign one of the protesters was carrying in Tallahassee that said, " who is going to take care of me when all the budget cuts are enacted?" I asked her where was her family? A Mother or Father, a son or a daughter, because family is supposed to take care of family.Government is not responsible for taking care of everyone. Hopefully some of these folks will get a job or two to pay their own way....... McDonalds is hiring this week, maybe some of these folks could apply and work their way to success....

S.O.B." Lawyer Sentenced For Stealing From Clients The crooked Brooklyn lawyer who stole $4 million from his handicapped clients was sentenced yesterday to up to 15 years in prison. Steven Rondos, 45, previously pleaded guilty to grand larceny and money laundering for stealing settlement claims and other money from 23 victims beginning in 2001.

Rondos, a guardianship lawyer, spent the money, which was supposed to pay for his clients' health care for life, on renovating his Ridgewood, NJ home, which included $31,000 for a plasma TV and $10,000 for kitchen curtains, according to court documents. Rondos was ordered by the court to repay only $2.6 million of the money he stole. During a press conference last year, former Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau became particularly heated at the allegations, saying "the son of a bitch was a pretty vicious guy, preying on incapacitated people."

Please educate me! I'm a 28 year old white male born and raised in NYC. Just recently married my girlfriend of 3 years. She is Filipino, btw. I'm a tea party member, and a small business owner. I support fair taxes, small government and a strong military. I am against post-first trimester abortion, and support firearms ownership (in the NRA too). Oh and finally, I'm a devout Christian. From what I've been reading here, it seems that I fit the profile of a "corrosive" tea bagger who wants to destroy the government. Is this really what people think of me?

You know its funny that some of you try and protect lawyers,do you realize that everything you do cost you more money because of lawyers, and there bullshit lawsuits your car insurance your home owners insurance things you buy in stores the roads you drive on and the gas you put in your car and the clothes on your back cost more because lawyers sue companies and drives the price up to cover costs of the bullshit lawsuits, and your paying for it.look at doctors we need them a lot more then lawyers they cant get insurance because of lawyers and if they do it cost you more, open your eyes and the next time you see a lawyer kick him or her in the ass.fight back or pay more.

Look at Obama falling right down on his face he's just another lying lawyer that wasn't even born in the USA,and facing a full blow shutdown of our government people don't understand the only thing a lawyer can do is cause trouble that's it,and steal look at all the money he gave away to his people and they don't even want to work because of all the free things hes giving away, like money and food stamps and cell phones that's right free cell phones to people that don't have a job or don't want to work.he's made it to where it don't pay to go to work, lawyers don't work either they like to steal from company's,they love to file a lawsuit and see how much they will settle for, that's 100 percent stealing.I think lawyers suck go get em Trump.

I am embarassed by the actions of our House and Senate. The Left and Right wings, the Conservatives, Libertarians of both parties need to understand what fools they are in the eyes of the electoriate. We send them to DC to represent us, we ask that do their best and watch out for those of us who elected them.

Yet they continue to have their collective heads up their asses. The process has been broken for years we are all to blame for this because we the people haven't demanded better representation. This goes for the current bunch of pussies in DC, to our State elected official, to our local school board, which seems to be so important to those on the blog.

Isn't our job to stop paying lip service and get out and exchange our apathy for action. "....ask what you can do for your country."

On this page many seem to grouse about an un-/under educated electoriate, uneducated students. Some how I feel there are more than a few educators posting, well dam it teach them you have all the tools!

We have a man from an racially mixed marriage, raised in a single parent household, then by a relative, who with the proper guidance, took advantage of the available public education system, continued on with his education at the best universities on the East coast. And then against all odds was elected President of the United States!

Well you and I paid for this, with our tax dollars, and we should be proud. All the tools and monetary support was furnished by John Q Public.

CHELTENHAM, Pa A 70-year-old former attorney from Cheltenham is headed to jail after admitting he stole nearly half a million dollars over a period of several years from an elderly client who had no family.

Samuel Liebman was the administrator for the woman’s estate, but prosecutors say he wrote himself into her will and then started making unauthorized withdrawals from her accounts.

Now, Liebman has been sentenced to 3-23 months in the Montgomery County Jail followed by 10 years’ probation.

The thefts started in the late ’90s. The woman died four years ago, at the age of 104

but wasn't is Polasi and Reid who did not pass a budget in Septmeber? Opting to not to get involved as it would have been even more devesating in the mid term election? So, the democratic lead senate and house, had an oppourtunity to enact a budget some 6 months ago and because of politics, they didn't? Now they want to blame someone, anyone else!Sorry, don't have spell check and i have fat fingers.....

Being one to bash both sides, The largest expansion of government in our time occurred on W's watch. The Reps controlled the house from 1995 until 2007 With Gingrich and Hastert as SOH and for 6 years of W's presidency the Reps had the Senate.

I look at our most properous time in (recent history) Clinton presidency when you had a balance of power. Clinton had the Whitehouse and all but 2-3 years the Reps had the House and Senate.

You Idiot Puppet Sheep being led to slaughter. The Republican Tea Party Phoney Prudes are threatening to close the government because they don't want to fund Women's Health. The Government doesn't fund abortions now so the only issue they have with Planned Parenthood was promoting The Health of Women. If we allow this to happen it will be like going back to a horrible period in American history!

Welcome to the board. Now that you've dared to identify yourself as a tea bagger, you should receive lots of posts calling you: racist, fascist, hate-filled, stupid, etc . . . .

Someone like you posts and says here's what I believe in [something reasonable IMHO] so why am I a radical tea bagger. The idiots will ignore your post and will presume to know your opinion on every issue and will disregard the reasonable nature of your post. Others will label you an an "exception" to the tea party movement and will persist with the stereotype of the entire movement based on the few a-holes the media likes to parade out as representative of all tea partiers. Speaking of which, any day now Bob should be running another video clip (shot 2 or 3 years ago) of some idiot, knuckle dragger as the sole and exclusive representation of the tea party. They never show someone like you who can form a sentence.

The "exceptions" like you are always considered outliers even when almost every tea partier I know is an "exception" to the stereotype.

Reason Trumps Bullshit
Reason Trumps Bullshit

No, you sound like a reasonable conservative, but it is concerning that you'd be tied in with an organization that believes you are the anti-Christ and a traitor (just for believing in a right to first trimester abortion).

I am a liberal -- and I support firearms ownership (I own several), I believe in restricting abortion after the first-trimester except in cases where it is medically necessary to save the life or protect the health of the mother. I believe in a strong military and believe our country has an obligation to preserve life, stop genocide, and promote self-determination around the world. I believe in G-d and I and my family own a business as well.

I also believe in FDR's Second Bill of Economic Rights -- and that the greatest country in the history of the world is failing in helping its people.

There is debate between liberals and conservatives that can happen without resorting to name calling. But then there are people so far off to the fringe that to give them credence and to include them as serious participants in the discussion only gives credibility to their ridiculousness.

Hey, Retardo Montalban:

You are the blog's 2011 version of ICW Dingbat. (Ask some of the veterans around here what that means)

Obama wasn't even born in this country? How do you know that, genuis? Did you hear someone tell you that at Cafe Belasara or wherever you sit around everyday and emit noxious gas?

That polluted mind of yours should be declared an EPA Superfund site, which would entitle it to the funds fora vital clean-up.

Someone mentioned the hiring of temp census workers... The reality is, under the "reorganizing" of Homeland Security, TSA and FEMA the size and role of government grew exponentially.

There are more (after 9/11) Federal Law Enforcement agents than there have ever been before. Those are the real facts.

Every politician voted to fund/create all of the new jobs/technologies to keep us "safe"

The fact is we are no more or less safe than we were on 09/10/01. What has prevented attacks has not been the detection of the devices prior to boarding a plane/train/bus/ what have you... It has been citizens standing up and preventing the attack. Those are the realities.

You have no idea the amount of Federal Dollars that have gone to local LE and FD's for FEMA and Counter Terrorism. Out of fear we just go with it.

Think about this... What caused more fear in people, The DC snipers or 9/11?

Not to downplay 9/11 because it was a day that will "live in infamy" but to think that terrorism cant happen again because of the expansion of TSA, DHS, FEMA is jsut ridiculous.

Virgil Starkwell

Please be mindful of the fact that you are not talking with your conservative friends; people on this board actually have advanced educations. "Everybody knows" does not constitute an acceptable and/or recognizable argument to support one's position.

Yes, I often hear the blowhards O'Reilly, O'Hannity and O'Beck use this phrase, but you'll have to do better than that here.

So, what is your support for the statement that the largest expansion of government occurred after Obama was elected President?

Virgil Starkwell
Virgil Starkwell

Who said I was broke or blue collar? And what is wrong with being blue collar, jag-off?

You'd be surprised as to what I can afford.

One thing you obviously cannot afford is a formal education. You're just some douche bag who made a little money, and now he thinks he understands how the world works.

"You can take the dirtbag out of the streets, but you can never take the streets out of the dirtbag."

Money has bought you neither an education or class.

Remember that!

Virgil Starkwell

Take some of that money you claim to have and sign up for an adult education course, preferably a writing course.

I normally would never pick on someone for their obvious lack of education, but you are a loudmouth ignoramus and need to be humbled.

I am doing this in your best interest because you probably don't realize how many people in your life think you are a moron.

As Howard Stern's father likes to say, "Don't be stupid, you moron".

I like when Parkland Man shares his wisdom with us. This is a guy who writes at a 5th grade level and thinks he understands the world because he made some money.

Hey Greaseball: I already told you. Money does not buy you an education. You are still the same dirtbag from the streets. Now, go home and get your shine box.

The Pharmaceutical Industry is often protected in court by something called pre-emption and they make an enormous profit every year. They charge ridiculous prices because they are gouging us, and are helped in doing so by morons like you who are uneducated and misinformed.

Same concept applies to Health Insurance Companies.

You should at least be smart enough to know that you are a dolt and should keep your mouth shut when it comes to issues that are above your education level.

The Obama administration has already acknowledged that the national debt will total $15.476 trillion by Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year. This is the first time since WWII, that the debt will reach 102% percent of the gross domestic product. That’s not 102% of annual revenue to the US Treasury, that’s 102% of the sum total of all economic activity in this nation. This record was created by an spending spree primarily done under the guise of stimulating the economy. It hasn’t. It’s been an abject failure. The only stimulation happened to our Treasury’s printing presses, which are working printing money 24/7. The economy is on life support and together with Obama’s policies of purposeful domestic uncertainty, increased taxes, outrageous deficit spending, increasing the national debt, anti-oil drilling, new business regulations, expanding a bloated bureaucracy, open borders, Obamacare and job killing initiatives-consumer spending is now anemic.

Gatorfl:

Sir, you are out of your league. I'm no defender of "Obamacare", but are you aware that the bill keeps the private health insurance industry well intact? Are you aware that the bill was written by lobbyists and former employees of Wellpoint?

Are you aware that both the Pharmaceutical Industry and the Health Insurance companies are going to profit enormously from this law?

It is very sad that you have been so brainwashed and think that "Obamacare" is some government run/socialist health insurance plan.

It is not, and that is why my man Model Citizen felt compelled to send you down to hang out with the Tidy Bowl Man.
