Donald Trump's Foreign Policy: Kill the Iraqis, Take Their Oil

We want you to willingly give up your oil!
The foreign policy of a Donald Trump presidency began to take shape last weekend in Boca, where "The Donald" addressed a massed throng of Tea Partiers celebrating (celebrating?) tax day. Here's a slide show from the Tax Day Rally.

The foreign policy portions of Trump's address were not the ones to make headlines, at least initially. No idea why. It took a fabulous column by Frank Cerabino -- a real barnburner, in which you can hear the blood vessels popping in Cerabino's stately forehead -- to make it an issue. And holy Jesus! Donald Trump is horrible!

Exegesis is probably beside the point in a situation like this, so let's just look at the quotes:

Of Iraq, Trump said:

For thousands of years when you won a war, you keep the nation. You keep the land. You keep the oil... We take the oil. It's estimated they have $15 trillion worth. We give some to Iraq. We pay back ourselves, plus, plus, plus.

Of Libya, Trump said:

I'm only interested in Libya if we get the oil. If we're not going to get the oil, no interest whatsoever.

Of a new diplomatic corps, Trump said:

In New York, I know all the great business people, and they're vicious, ruthless, horrible human beings. And I want them negotiating for me... You know, a diplomat is a person who studies hard. And you know what they learn? How to be nice to people. I don't want nice people.

Cerabino can barely contain his disgust. He derides the crowd's cheering of Trump's calls to appropriate Iraq's oil, "as if Iraq, a nation invaded under a false pretense and occupied for the past eight years at a tremendous human cost, is an American 'victory' that entitles us to that sovereign country's most valuable resource."

"... it's no wonder Trump mocked Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize," writes Cerabino. "Trump's foreign policy would be more worthy of the international criminal court in the Hague."

Righteo! Except we're in America, Frank, and the Hague doesn't matter here. Maistre said that every country gets the government it deserves, but when you're talking about us citizens of the U.S.A., every other country gets stuck with our government too. The fate of the world is in the hands of highly motivated illiterates whose preferred presidential candidate is a reality-TV star sufficiently disinterested in America to screw with her elections in order to drive up his own ratings. Keep howling into the void, though. It's a lovely noise, and we'd be poorer without it.

Look, you guys can always try to counter me with your "facts" but you know as well as I do that there are millions of people in this country who KNOW I'm right about everything here. You live in a sad world where the president of the united states leads the nation into multiple wars and massive debts without any real reason, then the evil wealthy people buy off conservative politicians who keep driving this country into the ground by convincing half of the public that if the rich pay less in taxes the government will have more money, all while eliminating any regulations that might ensure public safety or fairness. In your world, evil corporations can use their powerful lobbyists to get laws changed in their favor and all they care about is profits and not the welfare of their customers. In your world, rich villains sit comfortably on their yachts and in their mansions, sipping champagne and eating the finest foods, all while the poor working people in the country get kicked out of their homes, their schools, and their hospital beds. In your world, religion corrupts the human spirit and gives otherwise good people excuses to do horrible things to their fellow man. In your world, all those tea partiers are just sad, ignorant, well-intentioned Americans mislead by eople like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh into thinking their liberties are being stomped on by a foreign-born Muslim liberal and his abortion-loving cronies who just want to make sure every person has some semblance of a fair shot at success. That sounds like a sad world.

Luckily, the people in my world, the ones like me, are very passionate about what they believe and they vote in every election. We elect great Americans like Rick Scott, Allen West, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Mitt Romney, Rand Paul, and Strom Thurman. And nothing you say will ever change our minds.

Strom Thurman??!! OK I was kind of annoyed at this guy at first. Now I think he's kind of genius. Re-read his posts. This guy could write for Colbert.

Thinking hes going for the satirical? Possible. But damn, he keeps saying some really brain dead things.

The problems is there are those pesky facts that prove you wrong. Just because you yell your version from the tree tops doesnt make it true. Once again, the facts just show that your yelling random crap. See theres a homeless guy that shows up around my house all the time. He yells out various nonsense to everyone within earshot. Problem is he is just a guy suffering from schizophrenia. What is your excuse?

Obviously Saddam wasn't on one of the planes, but 19 out of the 20 hijackers were Muslims from his country. If you really think he had no previous knowledge of it I have a bridge to sell you in Arizona. And oil is the most valuable thing the Iraqis have to give us for liberating them from his tyranny, so why wouldn't we get at least 80% of it? They'd still be speaking Kurdish if not for our brave fighting men and women. That oil could lift this country out of a recession and liberals could finally have their NPR back.

Jesus H. Christ BAP:

That is a very disturbing world you live in, and a very tiny one. Incidentally, numerous members of the media invested with Madoff, including the owner of the NY Daily News and U.S. News and World Report, Mortimar Zuckerman.

You don't have the slightest clue as to what you are speaking about...on anything.

Are you aware of how ignorant you sound? I always read these polls that state that a certain percentage of conservatives still believe that Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11, but I always think that those polls are bogus, because there cannot possibly be that many dumb people in the country.

I stand corrected.

Your welcome, Pepper. Virgil is right, you sound very stupid in your response. No, Saddam was not from Saudi Arabia, lol. Their our allies! It just shows that the libs and dems who listened to NPR for years are truly the ignorant ones. Frankly, I'm glad it's gone. I hope the New York Times is next. Now you'll have to get your news from the AMERICAN outlets who aren't afraid to tell the truth because they are afraid to step on the toes of the elite. You may not like the politics of gentlemen like Donald Trump and Rupert Murdoch, but at least they are honest Americans!!

It makes perfect sense, plus has the added benefit of being true. Until we invaded Iraq, Al Queda (who actually was the ones who hijacked those planes) was never involved with Iraq. In fact they wanted to get Saddam out of there because he was very secular and not particularly involved with Islamic Fundamentalism. The reason we went into Afghanistan was because that is where Bin Lauden was, or at least we were led to believe. And it was him who actually had a lot to do with 9/11 and not Saddam. We went into Iraq thanks to Bush jr because he manufactured the whole story about the WMDs and a supposed link to yellow cake uranium. These are not conspiracy theories but actual facts. And innocent people do tend to hide in bunkers when there are bombs falling. Kinda helps to be underground so you do not get killed. Im not saying Saddam was an innocent but he had nothing at all to do with 9/11.Oh and Obama is currently pulling troops out of Iraq as I type this. One of my friends husband is currently on his way home from there. An currently we are there as so called "peacekeepers" which I think is kinda idiotic myself. But Bush jr did kind of break their country. The search for WMDs has been over for a long time. Because there were none to be had.

Bap1346
Bap1346

It sounds like your the one with the conspiracy theories. I quote: "An none of hijackers had even a nebulous connecting to Iraq or Saddam. He was only brought in later by Bush jr because he was all cranky about Iraq and made up the WMD nonsense."

Sure, that makes sense. I'm sure we were bombed by some random guys who had nothing to do with Islam or Iraq and then the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES decided randomly to attack a DIFFERENT country that had nothing to do with it. And nobody noticed. Yeah, right, good one. How do you explain why we caught Saddam HIDING then? Innocent people don't hide in bunkers. And where was he hiding? In Iraq of course. Do you really think we would STILL be at war freeing the country if they had absolutely nothing to do with the worst attack in American history? Don't you think the Obamanator would have pulled the troops out if he really thought they weren't still hiding WMDs?

SMDrPepper

Ahh okay, that explains everything. Your just a right wing conspiracy nut. By the way, Murdoch is Australian and not from the USA.Plus the 9/11 commission came out after the war had already started. An none of hijackers had even a nebulous connecting to Iraq or Saddam. He was only brought in later by Bush jr because he was all cranky about Iraq and made up the WMD nonsense.Actually I think its you who bought the Brooklyn Bridge already, and you bought it from the rest of the right wing conspiracy nuts.

Bernie Maddoff is a great example, another liberal dem that all the elite media knew about (that's why they didn't invest with him) but never told anyone about. I'm sure if the real Americans like Murdoch knew about his scam it wouldn't have lasted so long. Did you notice that Obama was already in the government when that was happening and he didn't do anything to stop it did he? I would never have listened to NPR and I'm glad it's gone. It shows the people whom did listen to it (ie, you) are the real ignoramuses (that means ignorant, for the lesser intelligent). And no, I didn't read the 9/11 commission report because I didn't want to waste my time on pre-war propaganda. We all knew what it was going to say, "our friend Saddam and his Muslim friends had nothing to do with this...yeah, right..." The government agencies (ie, liberal politicians) only tell people things that will make it easier for them to get elected. Politicians never tell the truth and if you believe they do, I have some ocean-front property in Brooklyn to sell you.

SMDrPepper
SMDrPepper

Honest in the vein of Bernie Maddoff. Which is to say not honest at all.The only one here who is sounding ignorant would be you Bap. If you paid the least bit of attention to the 9/11 commission, you would know the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia and not Iraq. In fact none of them came from Iraq.Perhaps you should listen to NPR, you MIGHT learn something. Because your steady diet of Rush and Beck sure has your brain atrophying.

SMDrPepper
SMDrPepper

Funny, I was always under the impression Saddam was from Iraq and not Saudi Arabia. And wasnt the Kurds the people we were sorta backing to take Iraq from Saddam? And here I thought this was still relatively recent events thought couldnt possibly be screwed up by those who do not read. Thanks Bap for taking away the one hope I had for this country. That we were not all totally blithering idiots.

I don't see what's so wrong about what Trump is saying. If those Iraqis didn't want us taking their oil, then Saddam shouldn't have bombed our towers. We invested good money in the tanks and guns that earned that oil and I don't see why we should give it away right when we need it most.

Trkoch

morons like you deserve obama and trump. Don't you know that it wasn't Saddam who bombed the towers, but Hillary Clinton, believing she was Amelia Earhardt, in a souped up B 17 ? Come on, are you really that stupid ?

Oh god I hope this was sarcasm. What has this world come to

I really hope that was sarcasm since Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11.

Trump is nothing more than a blowhard. He wants to pick fights with everyone and then defraud them of all their money and treasure. Pretty much what he is doing to everyone already in this country. He screwed over condo buyers here in Florida, taking their money yet not building the condos. Also bankrupts his casinos whenever possible to get out of paying any cash out. Now the tea baggers want him to run the country. Yeah theres a great idea. Fox in a hen house would be a good analogy. He is a crook, pure and simple. Course Florida did elect Scott so I suppose all the rational people will be screwed again.

JG
JG

He's expressing bluntly what we all know is true. We're at war for two reasons: 1) energy, and the dominance of and 2) Israel. It makes little sense to hide this and pretend things aren't what they are.
