Wild Art: Rick Scott's omnipresent security guards (in what one reader called "Blackwater-style" beige vests) couldn't protect him from the catcalls and boos hurled at him by the crowd at this parade in Tallahassee.

UPDATED: The pill mill problem in Broward County may have just hit a new low.

Today, Broward Sheriff's Office Sgt. John Goodbread, 42, and his wife, 37-year-old Heather, were arrested on charges of Oxycontin trafficking and prescription fraud and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.

Goodbread was arrested by a fellow deputy on a warrant and transported late this afternoon to the Palm Beach Jail for booking.

A Sun-Sentinel database indicates Goodbread, as a sergeant, earned more than $104,000, with overtime, in 2009. For a look at the database, which includes some pretty eye-popping annual pay, click here. More details on this as they come.

-- OK, it's Friday and there are lots of leads, but nothing is ripe, so let's talk for a moment about the BSO babes.

The deputies featured on TLC's The Police Women of Broward County are now hitting the beach and stripping down on camera to their bikinis. It makes fine TV -- T & A always sells -- but is this really what Sheriff Al Lamberti had in mind when he signed off on the show?

You may or may not like the Fox series Cops, which BSO also pioneered, but that show seemed to be about the actual work of law enforcement (and the requisite voyeuristic jollies derived from the follies of street criminals and drunken trailer folk). This new show seems more and more about developing a cult of celebrity around some of the women, especially Andrea Penoyer, the blonde and buxom BSO deputy who led the recent beach frolic.

Inside, see the beach clip, which includes not only Penoyer but also Dep. Tina Lacertosa (of aggravated felonies) and Erica Huerta, the BSO deputy (and part-time fitness model) who recently posed as a prostitute to bust former politico Vicente Thrower. Is it a meaningful glimpse into the real life of the deputies or a badge-demeaning ploy for ratings?

IS ANYONE MINDING THE STORE??? WHAT THE H*LL IS LAMBERTI DOING???

Isn’t part of Lamberti’s job administration of BSO??? He isn’t much better than Satz, when it comes to running a smooth ship and not breaking the budget. I actually voted for the guy -- ‘cause I thought that he was a law & order type, and he presented himself as someone who knew a lot about running a Sheriff’s office. At least that’s how he sold himself. What a farce that is turning out to be. I should have known better. When he sold himself to us, he really couldn’t (could he?), since it seems he sold himself to others (of the Rothstein crowd) way before he ran for office. What is left? What can we, as the taxpayers, do about the mess that he has put us in & the debt he is hanging on the State (and endangering the future of pensions for the Deputies all around the State)? Where is a real person from law enforcement that can properly handle BSO before it becomes a disgrace?

Take a look at what Lamberti has allowed on his watch. His personnel are being permitted to rob the county blind. He is letting all kinds of persons partake of generous & copious amounts of OVERTIME. That overtime is money that we the taxpayers have to foot the bill. And, after these overpaid personnel retire, the State has to make sure that their pensions are paid -- based on the bloated salaries full of overtime compensation. Sheesh!!! When Lamberti spoke of overtime a couple of years back (in 2009), I thought that he was telling the truth, and (making excuses on the backs of the deputies) requesting moneys to pay the Deputies for court appearances. Boy, did he pull the wool over the eyes of the sheeple with that one -- me included -- baah, baah!

I went to that Sun-Sentinel web site & copied and pasted some outrageous benefit packages (from 2009). It was sickening, to think of how many more people we could have hired, instead of making so many outrageous overtime payments. Anyone who runs a business knows that a turn to overtime is a last resort (not to be used unless absolutely necessary -- and NOT just for favored personnel or those who will bring more voters to the ballot box). This is unbelievable. Republican Governors are changing the way that pensions are written because of the greed being shown (and we have a republican Governor). This has endangered those who serve in the front lines, our law enforcement officers. What a crock -- they go out in the line of danger, to honorably serve and protect, and, now, they will be treated no better than a person who is not exposed to such dangers (like Lambeti’s favored hired personnel -- for instance a community service aide does not have that dangerous of a position). (And, to top it off, some of our finest acted like piggly-wigglys to feed at that trough, which now endangers all pensions for all officers, throughout the State.)

Since your so concerned, you obviously have never met or known Mayor Lamar Fisher. He is "furiuos" because when he says he did not want filming from this Lamberti publicity sqaud, he means it. Deerfield Mayor Peggy Nolan has also informed the good Sheriff of her peramiters of her city and has demanded certain areas of Deerfield are off limits for filming.Word of advice to you Deathfrog3, since you don't know the players personally, keep your comments to yourself.

Good Morning All!I'd really like to see more movies and TV programs filmed here in Ft. Lauderdale. I enjoy seeing our locale in the ones that are filmed here already. Crook Scott will hurt everyone. He's out of touch with the common person and is just an instrument for the power mongers in this state.

I find it hilarious how everyone knocks Rick Scotts looks and his legal but shady past .And how you assume his plan is to better himself financially ...Nobody has more incentive to prove himself than the Governor of Florida who is under a microscope now more than ever.He has but one challenge and that is to make Florida flourish once again. Though his decisions are not popular they will be effective in the long run and the sacrifices will be worth the outcome. Many pols are not successful because they concentrate on being popular and being reelected and NOT. on getting the job done....Now Lets Get To Work!!!

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times ... Al Lamberti needs to be removed from office. Rick Scott may look like some kind of mutant, but he is the Governor and he needs to remove the POS Al Lamberti from his perch of corruption!

Is this crazy? Can we have AL start working on the real corruption in Broward County? The fun's got to stop until this mess is cleaned up.

Ricky Scott looks sub human or mutated. Sort of lab created. Maybe he is one of those products of the Boys From Brazil.

Eric Smith to take over Notter's Job? I wonder. Smith is stepping down in June.

ERIC SMITH"Smith, who was hired in 2007 as the commissioner of education for Florida, recently announced that he will step down in June. Before becoming the commissioner of education, Smith served as a senior vice president with the New York-based College Board, which administers the SAT, and as a superintendent in Annapolis, Md., and Charlotte, N.C.When asked if he’d be interested in the job, Tom Butler, the director of the Office of Communications and External Affairs for the Florida Department of Education said: “Dr. Smith’s sole focus at this time is fulfilling his duties as the commissioner of education.”Pros: Smith served as commissioner through difficult times for Florida including budget cuts and classroom cap implementation; experience as superintendent and overseeing statewide pre-kindergarten through 12th grade; made steady gains in graduation rate; has held Broward’s feet to the fire to fix problems cited in grand jury reportCons: Came under fire for Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test results being late; no local experience.

Just off the SunSentinel Press this morning is an acticle in which Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher is furious with Sheriff Al Lamberti over non-approved filming in the City of Pompano with this joke of a TV series. Let me have a word with you Lamar, Al Lamberti will do what and where he wants and If Al wants to use your city residents to point guns at and beat down for his personal exposure and publicity, he will. Translation=GO SCREW YOURSELF

Day 3 of the Rick Scott / Jennifer Gottlieb watch.Got it on multiple sources that Gottlieb was laughing it up last night about how the reform movement is stumbling and how she is insulated from ethics investigation. She was also vocal about her impatience with the public forum at the board meetings and how she plays free cell on her laptop while the "idiots" speak. Rick had a couple of rough days. He got roughed up Wednesday by his cronies over the judicial funding and got some pushback yesterday. He thinks he is the next coming of Chris Christie except our Govy is solely onterested in reorganizing the state and steering billions to companies he and his cronies have interests in. The 70 million he spent getting elected will produce an evcellent ROI for the bald headed monster. K-Mart buy one/get one still going on so we still hope he and Jen do the right thing. Afterall, logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one.

Thanks for standing up for horses, unowho.

Another point about who pays tax on what animal feed: years ago, when the proposal to tax horse feed was introduced, horse owners organized and got it defeated. Among the reasons was that horses eat much more than dogs and cats, so a tax on horse feed would have had a disproportionate effect on horse owners. Parenthetically, although many horse owners are wealthy, many aren't (& also own small animals).

It's undoubtedly true that wealthy ranchers, track people, and their legislative connections powered the move to defeat the tax in Florida; it may be less well known that a 6% tax on horse feed would have been burdensome to many -- not only the average family with a couple of pleasure horses but also the owners of small TB barns, which are very important to the industry, yet often are hand-to-mouth operations.

Your comment stated, "Just off the SunSentinel Press this morning is an acticle in which Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher is furious with Sheriff Al Lamberti over non-approved filming in the City of Pompano"

I read the article and nowhere does it mention Lamberti at all!

If you have personal information regarding Lamar's state of mind then say so. Dont refer to the SS article. What you wrote was a lie. You are one of the 5 people in the Scott Israel camp and took this opportunity to bash Lamberti.

FYI, I do know the players, especially in Pompano. Where does Lamar attend church? If you know the answer then you'll know that BSO and Fisher are fine.

unowho:I have a question for you... Why are you a cheerleadr for this despicable man?I feel this is a very fair assessment of him.....Aman who should be in prison for his Medicare fraud, who refuses to communicate with the news media, who is arrogant and nasty and dismissive toward his critics, who “bought” the Florida Governorship, seems to have no limits to his ego and ambitions! Since the election his approval rating has gone down down down now that the public is starting to realize what a mistake was made by electing this mutant, who is only out to scavange this state for his rich connected friends to the detriment of the average middle class and poor folks. Hopefully we can endure until this Crook is out of office!

Canuck: are you playing without a helmet again? Get out of here with that Rick Scott cheerleading. He is in office to enrich his elite corporate friends. Trust me; you have nothing in common with him.

Take off, Eh?

You are not being honest. I read the article and copied it here. Nowhere does it say "Mayor Lamar Fisher is furious with Al Lamberti." In fact, the sentiment of the comment section of the article are negative against Fisher for trying to cover up the arrest.

Why don't you tell us how handsome, smart, and kind Scott Israel is when he spoke to your condo like the lying bastards did for Hurley. You guys are all of the same. Lie for political gain.

Police Women of Broward County (tv program) Pompano Beach By Larry Barszewski, Sun Sentinel 7:00 p.m. EDT, April 8, 2011fl-police-women-filming-controversy-20110408 POMPANO BEACH— "Police Women of Broward County" crossed the line when it crossed the border into this city.

City officials are upset that the television show ignored their warnings to stay out.

They had denied a film permit request from the TLC-network show, seeing nothing good that could come from the exposure. Then, last week, a show crew turned up to film a prostitution sting.

"For this to happen is inexcusable," Mayor Lamar Fisher said. "We want to make sure that the filming that was taken in our city does not appear on television."

Broward County Film Commissioner Noelle Stevenson is willing to work with the city to make the request but said her office has no control over what the production company decides to use.

An email requesting comment from the TLC network that airs the show was not answered.

City officials shouldn't worry, Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Jachles said, because care is taken to remove anything that connects a crime to a specific location — including sometimes displaying fictitious street intersections.

"You can't tell where it was shot," Jachles said. "It's Anytown, USA, but it's Anytown with palm trees."

Very sad but very true. When the cities sign up with BSO, they turn over the keys. The empire is expanding.

My Dear Glitz..... Most Crooks are in prison or on their way there or resign before they are impeached RMN....Three months is not much time to repair a dysfunctional State of Floriduh known for pill mills corrupt Pols LE School Boards Lawyer fraud scams etc. When I see any indication Gov Rick Scott is using his power to better himself financially ,of course I will join the Rick Scott haters. But until than I will stick to my gut instinct that he means well (unfortunately I had the same instinct of Df3) and support him till proven wrong .I still say Floridians will be pleasantly surprised so give the scarey bald guy a chance. The Prez was given a chance and now he is going to spend 1 billion to stay reelected instead of making tough unpopular decisions and working together on solutions (this is why I hate politics) to better the country.....The only "Great" POTUS was JFK who was not afraid to make tough hard and sometimes unpopular decisions.....RIP

DeathFrog3, you start in your first sentence sounding like a whinning little child. I guess you missed the jist of the article, Lamberti didn't keep a promise to the city Mayor/Officials, therefore the Sheriff can not be trusted by his word. Now thats a bad character trait....

Patti Lynn

Come on unowho...you're evading the answers to the questions that YOU asked. This is some serious stuff. We have people who will DIE if their medical support is eliminated. Why are we subsidizing sky boxes at Joe Robbie Stadium???...why do I pay sales tax on the cat food that I buy, but horse owners, (MUCH wealthier than cat owners), don't.???...cutting taxes on the wealthy to "spur" economic development is a rich boy ploy to make YOU think that you're helping our country....RAISE the taxes on the wealthy and, guess what, they'll start PAYING!!!! The Medicare/Medicaid experiment in South Florida DID NOT WORK...people were denied care, HMOs raked in the bucks, and the quality of care declined. SINGLE PAYER Health Care would ensure that Americans had quality care. Unfortunately, health conglomerates, pharmaceutical companies, and the ripoff artists would LOSE!!!! I am retired, I have a fairly low income, but, I'll bet that my tax rate is higher than a lot of profit making companies. Get on the program...start protecting those who WORK for their money. Trust fund babies are sucking the life blood from our country. Everyone should pay their fair share.

You've missed the point. Crook Scott owns a company he has put in his wfe's name that does drug screening(one of the largest companies that does). I f he makes it a requirement for a business to require drug screening for their employees chances are his company will benefit by that.

unowho
unowho

Patty Lyn Yes that is conflict of interest and in Canada that is a big No No .Laws have to change in USA to prevent this as it happens way to often. Also drug screening has flaws to begin with and there are now so many ways to fool the system .So we have to see how this plays out before we can judge his intentions. This drug screening much like the high speed train a major waste of tax payers money....Hoooorah for Rick on that rejection, speaking of trains where is the Clickety Clack boys???

Okay. How about demanding drug tests and owning, (oops, sorry, his WIFE owns), the largest company for employer required drug tests?? Does THAT sway you at all?

Where in the article does is state LAMBERTI promised the city anything? Say what you want about the show and whether it's good or not.

What the article actually said is not what you and Bo Phillips say it said.

I have over a year long history in here calling out bullshit by public officials (including Lamberti, Benjamin and Wheeler). Just google my comments as DeathFrog3 or Godfather 3 and you will see. But this type of campaigning for (or against) a politician under the guise of being disinterested is BULLSHIT! It is exactly this type of dishonest behavior that got Broward in the mess we are in.

The truth about Lamberti's failings are enough. He is an ineffective leader. You don't have to lie and spin everything that happens in the county as LAMBERTI's fault.
