Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall was stabbed in the gut last night with a knife at his sprawling mansion in Southwest Ranches. This morning, he is at the Broward General Medical Center, and his wife is locked up in the Broward County Jail.

"This is a very difficult time for Brandon and family, thankfully he will make a full recovery," Marshall's agent, Kennard McGuire, said in a statement to the media. "We simply ask that his privacy is respected."

Marshall's best friend tweeted: "Brandon will be ok and is in good spirits."

The details of the incident are sketchy, but Marshall reportedly underwent surgery to repair the wound, and no major organs were damaged. NBC is reporting that Nogami-Marshall admitted to the stabbing and said it was in self-defense.

His 26-year-old wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, was charged last night by the Broward Sheriff's Office with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. UPDATED: The arrest report alleges that Nogami-Marshall "did unlawfully and intentionally arm herself with a kitchen knife and stab the victim in the abdomen." Marshall, however, "provided sworn testimony that advising that he slipped and fell onto a broken glass vase," according to investigators. Deputies, however, found no blood near the broken vase, and when they arrested Nogami-Marshall, she told them she had "stabbed [Marshall] out of self-defense."

Marshall married Nogami, 26, in July of last year (during which Boyz II Men put on a performance for the bride). They met while both were students at the University of Central Florida and have had at least one violent spat in the past in which the police were called to Marshall's former home in Atlanta.

More details inside.
From the police report at the time:

"Mr. Marshall stated that he and his fiance', Ms. Michi Nogami-Campbell were having a discussion. Mr. Marshall advised that the discussion became intense and Ms. Campbell attempted to walk away ... they became physical and engaged in a fight, kicking and punching each other on the sidewalk. [The officer] observed Mr. Marshall grab Ms. Nogami-Campbell by her shirt and pin her up against the wall, and at this time Ms. Nogami-Campbell then began kicking and hitting Mr. Marshall."

There were no charges filed in that case. Broward property records show that Marshall purchased a 17,000 square-foot home (that's not a typo) on Stratford Court in Southwest Ranches in November for $4,150,000.

This isn't the first time Marshall has apparently misled people about serious injuries. While playing with Denver, he crashed through a television, severing tendons in his arm. He initially claimed he'd slipped on a McDonald's wrapper but later admitted he'd been "wrestling" with a family member.

Marshall is a massively talented football player who has been involved in a number of alleged domestic violence incidents and has been charged with disorderly conduct and DUI. His aberrant behavior has also been blamed for setting off the killer who shot his former Denver Broncos teammate Darrent Williams on New Year's Eve 2006.

The Dolphins signed Marshall to a five-year $50 million contract last year despite his off-field problems. He missed two games to injury last year but finished with 86 catches and 1,014 yards. Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene released this statement: "We are aware of the report. And our thoughts are with Brandon at this time. We will look into the matter. But because we are not allowed to have any contact with any of our players, we will refrain from making any further comment."
