Beach Boys Play Volleyball With Christian College Girls From PBAU

Yes, those are (sort of) Beach Boys.
Amid the sunshine and glittering surf of a Sunday afternoon on Lake Worth beach, the scene was hard to miss. A cluster of tanned, leggy college girls in short, tight shorts chased a volleyball around the net with a rumpled-looking group of guys in sweaty T-shirts. Occasionally, they were interrupted by shouts from an earnest if not entirely enthusiastic cheerleading team.

The ladies were not your ordinary beach beauties. They were chaste coeds from Palm Beach Atlantic University, the private Christian school in West Palm Beach where sins such as drinking and premarital sex are strictly prohibited. The men, meanwhile, were modern members of the Beach Boys, the bubble-gum '60s band that has long extolled the virtues of "California Girls."

Granted, these guys were far too young to be original Beach Boys. But they were part of the reincarnated band playing under that name at the Kravis Center last night.

All in all, the volleyball match was an extremely wholesome event, organized by the well-meaning folks at the Kravis Center.

But watching the young Christian college kids run after the ball, one couldn't help but giggle at the soundtrack their opponents would be singing later that night.

"The West Coast has the sunshine
And the girls all get so tanned
I dig a French bikini on Hawaii island
Dolls by a palm tree in the sand."
