Yuriorkis Gamboa Hits Harder Than Manny Pacquiao To Defend Featherweight Title

• I agree on most everything you wrote, except the entry about Mayweather being faster than Pacquiao. Mayweather looks faster as he mainly takes one shot or one punch at a time. These shots are often the result of counter punching, however still it is usually one or two at most at a time. Now Pacman on the other hand will throw 4-5 punches at a time. These are well timed and very rapid combos, which may give the appearance of them being slower than May's. If they are not equal in speed I would give the edge to Pacquaio as faster of the two.

• And comparing Gamboa to Pacman already? Let's all come down for a moment, clear our thoughts then, post something that make sense. Don't get me wrong, Gamboa is nice, but a comparison to Manny? Are we for real here?

• I like Gamboa a lot but the guy has no chin. He wouldn't last a round against Manny. Gamboa went down five times in his career against some mediocre boxers, what do you think going to happen if he gets hit by the PACAMAN? C'mon now!!

• I have seen all but 1 of Gamboa's fights since he came to the US. He probably does have more 1 punch power at 126 than Manny did, but: 1. Pacman throws in combinations and from angles 2. Both Manny's power and technique have improved going up in weight. It is rare that fighters "carry" all their power moving up in weight, it is almost unheard of to relatively increase your power going up multiple weight classes. Similarly the improvement in Pacquiao's footwork and movement beginnng at a point where he had already been a pro for 10 years is extraordinary. Comparing Pacquiao 6 years ago at 126 and then projecting a match with Gamboa is insane. Both guys can be hit, but Pac's chin is way better than Gamboa. There are ways to beat Manny. JMM showed how. But if you project a hypothetical matchup of Pac/Gamboa in a theoretical window before Pac is too old and yet while Gamboa can legitimately grow into at least the 140lb range, I see a short night. Pacquiao TKO in 4. Too much, too hard coming from too many angles while being hard enough to hit and too hard to hurt. Gamboa is fast, maybe as fast as Pac, but he is not as accurate, particularly in combination. Mayweather is faster than either and at least as accurate in single shots (Pac has the edge in 5 or 6 punch combinations). As for Solis, he is a heck of a lot more than you give him credit for. In a sport where hyping a no hope opponent happens every week it is grossly unfair to lump in Solis in the "glorified sparring partner" role. He is a better fighter than any of the 4 guys who went the distance with Gamboa previously, and a man who went 8 rounds with Pacquiao at a time when Pac was only fighting Mexican warrior future first ballot HoF fighters. Now back to your regularly scheduled program of Cuban ex-patriate nuthugging...

• Gamboa hits harder than Pacquiao did at featherweight. If you compare Gamboa's punch now to Pacquiao's punch now, Pac's punch is probably harder because of the weight. Pacquiao and Gamboa will never happen because of the weight difference. Besides, Pacquiao isn't really a one-punch knockout kind of guy. He's the type to break you down with the high number of punches he throws. Only time he really knocked someone out good was Hatton and that was because Hatton didn't see that punch coming.

• Pac Man would not kill Gamboa. That would be a very competitive fight.

• I really like this Gamboa kid. He's been knocking out "no name" fighters in the early rounds. I think it's time for him to fight some champions like Juan Manuel Lopez. Gamboa can be hit & get hurt since it happened before. I feel Gamboa is ready for Juan Manuel Lopez. Let's get it on!

• Mayweather potshots and its more crisp and accurate then it is fast.he could never put together combos like pacquiao. Gamboa is a way better puncher then mayweather

• Gamboa vs PAC would be huge, absolutely the biggest fight or I should say real fight in the last ten years. Gamboa must be mentally tough to win however, may take some time and a few fight against better contenders. My money is on Gamboa as much as I love Pacquiao

• Boxing ought to have that hand speed meter to finally give accurate measurement. I doubt floyd's hands are that fast, his defense though is superb.

• Of course Pacman would kill Gamboa. Pound for pound, Pac is the best in the business right now. Arguably one of the best ever. And that argument is even stronger when you look at the high quality fighters he's beaten. Gamboa hasn't beaten anyone special yet. His first real test will be either Lopez or John. At 126 Gamboa is pretty damn strong but of course he can't step to Pac. Still, he's the only other fighter with the kind of talent that Pac and Mayweather have. At this point in his career, Pac or Mayweather would pound Gamboa into early retirement. Even if he was 154. Maybe he'll move up but then there's the age factor. He's 29-years-old. I'd have to look it up but I doubt Pac was still a featherweight at 29. Let's not forget that Gamboa has like 400 amateur fights so he's not as green as 20 fights make it seem. As far as hand speed, maybe he does have a slight edge on Pac. But not Mayweather. Gamboa kinda reminds me of Roy Jones Jr. But we'll never see speed like Mayweather again. He may not even fight again. Which is all the more reason that boxing fans should be excited about Gamboa.

• And by the way, Gamboa has the fastest hands in boxing. Not after Pac and Mayweather like stated in this article!

• Current Pac hits 10 times harder than Gamboa. Pac has knocked down Cotto, Hatton and beat up Margarito (a junior middleweight fight, who he outweighed pac by almost 20 pounds). Do you really see Gamboa a featherweight doing this? Not a chance in hell. Pac would kill Gamboa!
