Sheriff Lamberti's Top Law Enforcement Official Resigns

Broward Sheriff's Col. Rick Frey, who is in charge of all law enforcement operations under Sheriff Al Lamberti, announced his resignation today, BSO sources have confirmed.

Frey, left, receiving an award
Frey is meeting with Lamberti and all division chiefs at 3:30 this afternoon -- basically at the time this post is being published -- to make it official.

Frey -- who had already retired and is collecting a pension in the DROP program -- said he was simply ready to retire, but many rumors are swirling around his imminent departure. Frey, for instance, was deeply involved in the Super Bowl detail that is under investigation by the State Attorney's Office.

More on this as details emerge.

-- Thanks to Rick Scott and the Tea Party, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and I did a bit of bonding today.

Believe me, I almost never bond with politicians. But when Wasserman Schultz requested a meeting with me today (we had never met), I found myself sitting across from her at a Starbucks on Sheridan Street in west Hollywood nodding my head in sympathy at most of the things she said.

After sitting down, I almost immediately asked her about the Tea Party. She talked of how some of its wackier members follow her to mundane events and stand on corners with signs and shout for hours about her.

"Do they call you a traitor?" I asked.

"That's one of the nicer things they say," she answered. "They have said that the reason I had breast cancer was

because of my views. They're really crazy."

Yes, they are. The Tea Party talk naturally led to Gov. Rick Scott, whom Wasserman Schultz said was "scary" and "maniacal." Again, I nodded.

She said that while there was some rhyme and reason with Jeb Bush, a serious governor no matter what you thought of his ideology, Scott seems capable of doing anything at any time, all politics or common sense be damned.

"He should be in jail," she said, referring to Scott's past running Columbia/HCA, a company that committed the greatest Medicare fraud in U.S. history under his leadership.

"Uh-huh," I agreed.

Scott's incredible rejection of $2.4 billion in federal funds to build a high-speed rail clearly still irks Wasserman Schultz, as it does me. This was going to bring Florida into the 21st Century and be the start of something that would revolutionize the state and its tourism industry.

Instead, Scott threw it all away.

She said that on the day that Scott announced his rejection of the federal funds, other members of Congress literally laughed at her on the floor of the House, saying that it was good news because now their state would get the money -- and the free ride into the future.

"We were going to be the model," she said, shaking her head.

I had a little less than a half-hour with Wasserman Schultz before she was off to her next function. It wasn't until the drive back that I realized I didn't even ask her about Allen West.

It was the wrong way train and it was concluded quite some time ago it would fail miserably without continually being subsidised. North/South is the only way!

I'm guessing that when Frey got that award he knew his time was up.

I'm not happy with our political system and the current incarnation of the two major parties and with our corporate crony political culture. Whatever one's political opinions and desire for more effective policies to address the needs of average American's, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is an amazing worker and a truly nice person. She is a politician and individual worthy of admiration, and she is most certainly worthy of respect.

Rick Frey has always been mega-bad news.A few highlights from his sleazeball career:He was a key player in manipulating the magic numbers in Ken Jenne's PowerTrac. He buried a report that showed BSO was using psych drug to control jail inmates. When Broward's Legal Aid lawyers filed suit against the North Broward Hospital District, Frey generated bogus data to prevent the suit from moving forward. He selected a brand new firm -- with no prior experience in jail health care -- to take over BSO's multi-million dollar inmate health care contract after Jenne's lobbyist pal Billy Rubin was hired to represent the firm. And let's not forget the late Lynn Futch

The rant is in the title to this rant. Scumbag lawyers that run ads on television all day trying to convince America that there has to be a reason that someone somewhere owes them money.

These ads run day and night. We have all seen them and most people I talk to about it say they hate these commercials as much as I do.

“Do you have Mesothelioma? Call this number so we can collect vast sums of money and give you what amounts to a tiny fraction of the settlement and we keep the rest.”

One of my favorites is “Have you or a loved one taken (Insert drug name here) and had a stroke or have died? Call this number . . . ” This commercial actually runs all day long, and they are asking the question exactly as I have written it here.

Its downright embarrassing. These simpletons have taken ambulance chasing to an entirely new level.

I have an idea. Lets run commercials that say “Have you been duped into calling a scumbag lawyer while watching television at 3 am? Did this lawyer convince you that you stood to gain millions for a hang nail and you only got a twenty dollar bill and the lawyer kept your millions? Call 1 800 DEPORT LAWYERS NOW!”

The BSO administration is seen in the public eye as a rudderless ship. I have never read so much corrupt behavior going on and the numerous hard working /honests deputies I have spoken with are embarassed about their Sheriff. Several criminal investigations have been opened up by the Broward State Attorney's Office, FDLE, and the FBI that should provide the insight and the indictments needed to remove the Sheriff and his administration.

Truth Sayer

BSO is looking more and more like a "domino's" chain reaction knockdown. Lamberti should be handcuffed on the steps of the Ron Cochran Public Safety Building. I say let Jenne do the cuffing!

Governor Scott ... remove this criminal from office! Let's get to work!

are you smoking crack! jenne???? Convicted Felon Jenne????? Pppppppuuuuulllleeeeeeaaaazzzzzzeeeeeee, jenne was and is a nitwit, he corrupted BSO with his Powertrip and the strive for more, more, more. He screwed the taxpayers of this county while he grabbed every city under the sun for the sole reason to make him Powerful! If you are upset with lamberti, fine say what you want but don't think for one New York second, that shitbag jenne is the answer, he was and is a thief, promoted and brought his buddys into the fold, paid over one million of our $$$$$ to have his buddy panza write up a bogus investigation into the powertrip scandal. If he was soooooooo smart, why did he promote people in powertrac that were feeding him bullshit? Why was Weston the place with the highest, greatest clearence rate in the world??? And yet, nothing happened to anybody..........

Virgil Starkwell

Rick Scott is a criminal......PERIOD! Anyone with moderate brain activity, who has researched his involvement in that Medicare fraud case, understands this and accepts this as fact.

While that designation has nothing to do with politics, I promise you this is a bad man who is only out to enrich his wealthy friends through the implementation of his extreme ideology.

The majority of Floridians are in serious trouble with this character in office, including the middle class republicans who don't realize it.

If he were a criminal he would have been charged with a crime.

"Federal prosecutors seek 'authentic cooperation' from corporations in trouble, urging them to come forward voluntarily and reveal their illegalities. In exchange, prosecutors will offer a deal. If companies pay the fine set by the prosecutor and submit to probationary terms for good behavior, perhaps an outside monitor, then government will defer prosecution indefinitely or even drop it entirely. The corporation thus avoids the stigma of a criminal trial and the bad headlines that depress stock prices."

What you're not getting, Gatorfl, is that big business interests fund political campaigns, and in doing so they get laws that protect them from personal liability. The purpose of being a corporate entity is for liability issues, but the result of enhancing corporate protections is that a guy like Rick Scott was eligible to run for public office.

Therefore, individual human beings break the law, but only the corporate entity gets charged. In order to avoid further investigations and prosecutions of actual human beings, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) fired Rick Scott, gave him a huge parachute of a payout, and agreed with the federal government to pay the largest criminal- and I repeat, CRIMINAL- fine in United States history, of one billion seven hundred million dollars.

That means that no other company had ever paid so large a CRIMINAL fine in US history, and they did so in order to avoid the prosecution of actual human individuals involved in perpetrating that crime. And then he takes those tens of millions of dollars- over seventy million of it- and campaigns for governor, and he wins by 68,000 votes out of over five million votes cast.

What a country!

It might not be the beginning of the end, but it is certainly the end of the beginning. Frey is GOA. Snak and Fondo are done and will never be included in any new administration. The investigations will be embarrassing and some people might still be charged criminally. Regardless, the lies and administrative wrong doings will paint all the players. The Standards Board is watching closely-this isn't over yet. Wheeler, Santucci, Riley, Cavallo, Gillette, Vrchota, all will be gone. There isn't a one of them that can stand on honor or ability. Ironically, the only one who will survive, because he is a basic deputy and has union protection, is DP, the phantom policy maker behind the scenes. If he ever did advise his mentor Lamberti to tell the truth, he failed to get through to him. But he has no LEO career ahead of him because he still cannot win, place or show in a sergeant's test and his friendships with rich corrupt farmers will not carry over to whatever future administration. No tears shed here. If these fools learn anything, I hope it is that telling the truth up front counts for a lot, that you can't fool people forever, and when you have the opportunity to right a wrong done by your big-mouthed friend, you should do what you said you would do. Too bad that they awoke some sleeping giants who knew more than they do.

Frey is toast, make no mistake about it; and no he isn't leaving as a planned retirement. He is on the run. He had a big blow out with Lamberti and refused to back down to the corrupt dictates of AL. Frey's pal Snakenberg made a deal with the SAO to turn witness to save himself (it won't completely-his career is over). Documents and e-mails were brought forward that show that Snakenberg kept Frey informed of the credentials, etc. Fondo has also jumped on board as a witness. Frey supports both of them and knows that he informed AL, but AL ordered him to leave if he would not help him continue to lie and cover up the truth. Now there is a pattern of security misconduct and fraud involving 2 and possibly 3 ball games. More coming. AL knows he will never complete his current term-he is done. More coming. Snakenberg and Fondo want to claim "whistle Blower." That will not fly. They didn't expose the information-the media and others did. Further, the documents they are coming up with have already for months been requested as "Public Information" and therefore are products of inevitable discovery, offering no protection. AL will eventually name his clone, Cavallo to the Colonel's position and the beat will go on, but this Sheriff and this administration are basically done in for sure. No Republican can survive this and the party has about had enough of this loser and his lies and corruption. For the few doubters left, get a grip-it's over.

Why all the hatred for Debbie? I don't doubt her accounts at all. I work with many conservatives and they constantly talk about her appearance, the way she speaks, and refer to her as a "bitch" or "cunt". Those spewing the vitriol are typically overweight, balding, under-achieving males. Are they threatened by her intelligence? Power?

Wasserman Schultz is nothing more than a bleeding heart liberal, who is a lair, as all politicans, whether they liberals or conservatives. Neither side really cares about the middle class business owners who are surffering the most in this pathetic Country. They only care about thier corrupt parties. The poor are saved by the government, the rich are just rich. The American business owners, who are the back bone of this Country are discriminated against, go away Wasserman Schultz and stop crying, you make me sick...........

I agree Pulp you got it wrong on this high speed rail thing. If it would be self supporting no problem but any one who is being honest knows better. The recent history of crooked local politicians & bureaucrats does not give you a sense our money will be well managed. At this point in time we need to be shrinking government I would rather we just reduced current spending to 2007 or 2008 levels.

Yeah, Pulp, Disney doesn't need any more handouts from the state of Florida. It isn't like they can move anywhere. They're stuck right where they are. We should put the squeeze on them, not the other way around. The most telling part of the conversation was the reaction by the thieves on the floor of our House. You can just picture them cackling maniacally as the country flushes more debt money down the toilet so the moneyed interests can prosper -- and fill their re-election coffers. They're laughing because Debbie won't be able to sell the train largesse to her biggest backers in return for campaign donations. You can bet that Debbie's communications people sat her down and told her not to reflect so badly on her cohorts.
