Allen West: Foiled By Collective Bargainers and Community Organizers

This kiss will be interrupted by a community organizer.
When will the crazy stop? Rep. Allen West is a man -- a two-hundred-poundish, handsome, intelligent man, with his own ideas, experiences, memories, loves, dislikes, hatreds, prejudices, whathaveyou. He is not a canvas.

Yet that's what lots of people want him to be. Since he first hung up his dress uniform, the fringier parts of the American right have turned him into a kind of human Rorschach Test; a screen upon which to project whatever transient desires most obsess them.

Check out this cracked effusion from Andrew Breitbart's Big Hollywood, penned by Michael Moriarty:

Nothing so reinforces the essential integrity of the American character than another viewing of the American classic, From Here To Eternity. Seen through contemporary eyes, it looks like an extended examination of Lt. Col Allen West's entire experience with the Third Millenium American military...

Why was [Allen West] singled out for an "enforced resignation"?

The collective bargaining and cronyism of the Third Millenium, American Army-at-War was seen spitting on its own best soldiers because of the New World Order's increasingly Marxist agenda.

In the film translation of... From Here To Eternity, individual freedom and individual responsibility are the heroes battling the community organizing pressure and collective bargaining going on under the guidance of Captain Dana "Dynamite Holmes"...

...There are prophetically Marxist-style cabals and pressures existing to both force Prewitt, the Montgomery Clift character, to box, and to "transform" Frank Sinatra's Maggio [character] into a coward and someone ashamed of his Italian roots. Maggio would rather die, be beaten to death, than succumb to any bully.

Neither effort succeeds, of course, and both Maggio and Prewitt, true to themselves, die as heroes, fighting not only their enemies abroad but the very "community organizers" and "collective bargainers" that can so obscenely crop in any military setting.
Funny. As I recall it, the villains in From Here To Eternity were boxers, not Marxists. That said:

No, no, no!

Just because Republicans don't like "community organizers" this year, 'cuz Obama was one, and just because the stink wafting southwards from Wisconsin has soured them on "collective bargainers," doesn't mean they get to use those labels to retroactively tar everything they've ever disliked. That's silly, dishonest, and horribly, horribly stupid.

Listen, Moriarty: You can grouse about Marxism all you want. I'll join you. But let's be sane. Allen West wasn't booted from the army for not being sufficiently Marxist. If you'll recall, it was Stalinists who fingered, detained, and tortured "enemy collaborators" on scanty evidence. Americans are supposed to be better than that. Right?

Also -- Allen West's military career was not ended by "collective bargainers" and/or "community organizers." Unless you think the Geneva Convention was a plot hatched by grassroots literacy and anti-crime activists, the insinuation is meaningless.

Dear reader, please recall that Andrew Breitbart is a Very Big Deal. Big Hollywood is not some kind of lunatic's demesne, frequented exclusively by the tinfoil hat crowd. These are the same people who brought down ACORN. And now they have decided that collective bargainers and community organizers killed Montgomery Clift. This is a weird, weird world.

I'm reading from all the way up here in Minnesota. I am intrigued by your overt annoyance, or should I say, fear of LTC and Rep. Allen West. In all the stories from this media source, you NEVER have anything positive to say about this smart and principled man, so you must be worried that he speaks for most Americans.

"But let's be sane. Allen West wasn't booted from the army for not being sufficiently Marxist. If you'll recall, it was Stalinists who fingered, detained, and tortured "enemy collaborators" on scanty evidence. Americans are supposed to be better than that. Right?"

The insinuation that Allen West and other Army officers using strict interrogation techniques and intelligence tips is the equivalent of the communist show trials of the 1930s and 1950s is so historically inaccurate that it defies description.

Once Allen West was relieved of his duties in Iraq, attacks against soldiers formerly under his command and Iraqi civilians faced an increase in terror attacks. West and his officers based their decisions on a credible threat. Stalin in the USSR trumped up charges against rival communists.

What makes the USA so special is our political culture is vastly different from the totalitarian world and mirror imaging by Thorp and like minded extreme leftists insults the society that we have all treasured and cherished.

Brandon, keep up the good work regarding Mr. West, and don't stop showing how he and his sycophants ignore history and the facts (and now, cinematic metaphor) while they spew their vicious hatred against anyone who dares to oppose them, or for that matter, even thinks differently. Very un-American indeed.

I also find it ironic that NPR is being vilifed for certain comments made by one of its fundraisers about the Tea Party, while West is praised by conservatives for literally declaring war on the "vile" Progressives that he belives are really Marxists in disguise who are hell bent on destroying this country. Not that a little Marxism would be bad thing, but that's a discussion for another day after Wall Street (with the Tea Party and West's support) steals the rest of the wealth in this country and we finally wake up to see that Marx was more insightful than most people give him credit for.

Since we both feel so strongly about West, I've also decided to post this under my real name, in case anyone wants to have a reasoned debate about these issues off the blog.

Finally, since I hae no personal enmity twards Mr. West himself (just his lousy ideas), I will say one thing good about him: he is doing a fantastic job (much better than Ron Klein's office) on a constituent servies issue involving my wife and the Social Security Administration. Frankly, if he sticks to agressively doing his job for ALL of his constituents and stays away from the hatred, I might even consider voting for him next time around. might not be a bad. Not really, but I don't want him to stop working on my wife's case just because she is married to a vile progressive liberal that he thinks should be wiped off the face of the earth at the point of a muskey (or, in his case a .45 pistol). Yep, the repubs have gone insane. In Atlanta, they are going to tax Girl Scout Cookies, while giving money to the corporations again. At least West will not be lonely, they ALL belong in jail. How DID he get away with torturing people anyway? An how is it the tea baggers look to THIS guy as their moral compass? I am glad they finally have their one black guy but this guy is worse than those he rants about.

Admit it Brandon, you have a man crush on Col. West. No sir, Allen West is not a "canvas" - but he was and continues to be a defender of this country, it's constitution and your right to publish your "cracked effusions" as well.

This is Brandon K. Thorp's weekly hit-piece on Allen West, courtesy of the Democrat party.

Allen West was not "booted" from the military. And Brandon K. Thorp, you are not a journalist. Unfortunately for you , you are just joining the chorus of random rabid monkies

Thanks for the (small) kind word regarding your Congressman. I have a challenge for you, First, review the recent Katie Couric interview with Allen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... (if Couric lived in CD-22, I bet she would eventually vote for him). Second, read a little about his actual experiences in Iraq, and finally attend his next town hall meeting and judge for yourself. Listen to his "lousy ideas" Allen West represents all Americans. He is the real deal.

Please explain to me how West is "a defender of this country, it's constitution and your right to publish your "cracked effusions" as well." I don't understand how that works.

He's scared of the Colonel.

No, this is Brandon's weekly response to the conservative's "War on Sanity".

Seriously, when you people start conflating "From Here to Eternity" with community organizing, or whatever crazy batshit that is being disseminated by Moriarity, a response is warranted.

From what I read about West's separation from the Army, he certainly would have been booted and either court martialed or dishonorably discharged if he had not resigned. Sort of like our current Governor.

Not officially booted. He took a deal. Innocent people, with ethics and morals, don't take deals

west's townhalls are the epitome of the idea that if you repeat something enough than people will start to believe itin answer to: unemploymentthe economyeducationforeclosures"THERE IS TOO MUCH DEBT WE MUST LOWER TAXES THERE IS TOO MUCH DEBT WE MUST LOWER TAXES THERE IS TOO MUCH DEBT WE MUST LOWER TAXES THERE IS TOO MUCH DEBT WE MUST LOWER TAXES"

He's not a Colonel anymore-he's just a hack Congressman. How many battalion commanders got through their tours without getting an Article 15-most of them. West evidently couldn't because he was arrogant then and is still that way now.

Yeah that makes so much sense..Lets kill the debt by making sure there is less money coming in.Course he doesnt care, all the money from any programs cut end up in the corporate pockets. And its not just West. Seems like all the repubs are doing this. The tea baggers are gonna get their revolt, but they are going to be on the wrong side of history.
