Mendelsohn Talking To State; Klenet And Ritter Remain Under Criminal Investigation

When convicted political operative Alan Mendelsohn was recently debriefed regarding his knowledge of corruption in Florida, it wasn't just federal officials at the table, according to multiple sources.

ritterklenet222.jpg
Still on the hot seat
State prosecutors working under Michael Satz were also there taking notes. The state and feds, informed sources say, are working together on the case, each taking up where the other leaves off.

You read that right: Federal and state officials -- who have historically had an icy relationship and have engaged in decades-long turf wars -- are now in cahoots together, at least when it comes to Mendelsohn.

Imagine that.

The détente may have real practical value in the Mendelsohn case. For instance, it is widely believed that lobbyist Russell Klenet -- whom Mendelsohn pinpointed in court as having taught him how to hide money from clients -- has received at least partial immunity from the federal government in the wide-ranging fraud case involving Ponzi schemer Joel Steinger and his former firm, Mutual Benefits.

But that doesn't preclude the state from investigating those and all other matters.

In the Mendelsohn indictment the feds listed numerous sources of political money that was diverted in all kinds of interesting -- and illegal -- ways. Most of the money men have one only thing in common: a connection to

Klenet, whose wife of course is Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter.

One of the political contributors was Mark Ginsburg, Klenet's friend and client. Another was credit counselor Howard Dvorkin, who said Klenet directed him to pay his lobbying fees to Pine Crest School for tuition for Mendelsohn's children. Then there's Steinger himself, who paid Klenet $20,000 a month as his lobbyist and political strategist.

It's clear that Klenet was at the center of the Mendelsohn money wheel. I was able to get David Schulson, one of the state prosecutors leading the corruption investigation, on the phone today. He refused to comment on the Mendelsohn investigation but he was very clear on one point.

"Klenet and Ritter are still open investigations," said Schulson.

and nothing happens. Time is buying these people a reprieve and an escape hole. It will finally go so far down the rabbit hole that the occupants will be the untouchables.

PSHey Pulp - In an earlier post, you failed to report that Mandy Dawson was living in a River Reach condo owned by contractor Scott Strawbridge during their menage a twat witth Ronny Book.

One can only hope that Mendelsohn will include former Senator Mandy Dawson in his hide-saving performance before his state and federal corruption audience.

Well, let's see here...the Satz gang is doing a class project with the Feds? Well, if that is the case then they are using the "buddy system" on many cases. This is not a pilot program. I would venture a guess that the Statewide guys are also playing a role in this new found world of "play nice" and "catch bad guys" for a change. I guess it is only right that the Satz gang would "get to work" in the words of Rick Scott after being so embarrased by the Feds in the Joe Eggs, Fitzy and Bev cases.

We'll just have to sit back and watch the display. I hope that the agencies all realize that it is less about "taking credit" and more about preserving democracy...free of fraud and racketeering. Remember...what happened in Egypt nearly happened in Madison, WI. That should never happen here. It is up to these agencies to avert any such situation by disposing of the lobbyists (terrorists), dirty electeds (facilitators) and the henchmen (useful idiots). Only then can the ideal American way flourish. Otherwise...we're fucked!!!

Preserve what democracy. That is a figment of America's imagination.

Ritter told Sentinel she's running again. New strategy is to float out that Satz is going after Ritter to get Porth elected, a ridiculous conspiracy theory. Porth had nothing to do with the Steinger home renovation, the Vista conflict with Klenet, the URS airport management conflict with Klenet, the election law violations, the golf cart, etc. If this race ever happens -- and I doubt it will -- we'll see what will and won't fly in this town.

Oh, BTW, Sylvia Poitier is running again. Her signs are front and center Dixie Hwy, Deerfield Beach. There has to be a set of brass ones underneath that skirt.

Too hard to believe Sit on his hands Satz would go after anyone. No Sale. Satz Needs To Retire.

Any chance that "conspiracy" is being floated to prevent Satz from charging her? She's creating an apparent conflict of interest. Not a bad strategy. If she does get charged she has preempted her defense or kept a good challenger from entering the race.

Porth is going to resign before he runs. That was already pre-ordained. Word is that Porth went to Satz, asked him about running as a prosecutor, and Satz told him no way and that he would have to resign.

There is no conflict of interest; this is just desperation. The evidence is stacked so high on Ritter that no matter what she squawks about the truth is going to win out.

Porth does not need the job and from what I've been told, he does not do much anyway. How can he be working full time for the states' attorney if he's in Tallahassee much of the time? He's just lining his pockets with taxpayer money. Oh, wait. A politician at his best!

Hi. Mr. Norman, please re-read and edit to correctly reflect whether Mr. Velazquaz or Mr. Bautista was the perpetrator. You wrote above and below the BSO report that Mr. Velazquaz was drunk and charged with the crime, but the BSO report itself seems to indicate it was Mr. Bautista. Thank you.

Trivia Question:

Who has been penetrated and abused more? The chihuahua in the above story or the mutual benefit investors?

"Yo quiero angus beef".

"No Mutual Benefit investor has ever lost a penny." Russ Klenet May 16, 2004.

Ritter and Klenet...they'll either go to jail or go to Washington. It could go either way - that shouldn't be the case, but it is. That fine line has some major criminals in positions of power, and that is terrible. Ritter and Klenet should be in jail, the impropriety of what they do should come back to bite them. SA and Feds need to do their job on these two.

There IS no angus. Ready Buddy Nevin's story about why the investigation is even still open. It's all to help his employee Ari to run against Ritter next year. Easy win when you can say your opponent is under investigation.

Note to Ritter henchmen: Don't trot out your stupid bullshit political ploys here. There are other websites for that. We go by the evidence, not a political strategist's harebrained scheme.

That said, your campaign to claim is that Satz's investigation is a ploy to elect Ari Porth is a classic case of projection. This is the way that Ritter, who is demonstrably one of the worst politicians in Broward County history, thinks and operates. The fact that she or her people are trying to sell that to the public is evidence of their total moral bankruptcy and cynicism. To allege that professional prosecutors like Dave Schulson, Catherine Maus, and Jeannette Camacho are involved in some kind of far-reaching political conspiracy is just too ridiculous for words.

Note to the statewide grand jury: Can you work just a few more months and write a report on Ritter? Somebody needs to shut these people up.

Schulson is a very good prosecutor. I dont know how he is in Public Corruption with Donnelly but he did a very good job in career criminal.

I'm sure our legal experts can opine but there are 2 general types of immunity. Transactional which is you get a free pass on everything and use or derivitive use immunity. Generally speaking prosecutors give use/derivtive use immunity so they don't unknowingly give someone a pass for unknown crimes.

Derivitive use immunity just means they cant use anything they glean from your statements to build a case against you. They can still charge a person if they obtain evidence from other sources.

Also the Feds cannot imuune someone from state prosecution or vise versa.

P_Nis
P_Nis

Don't hold your breath. I'd be really surprised if Ritter or Klenet get charged, would be nice though...
