Keith Olbermann Calls Out Conservatives for Inciting Tucson Shooting, Includes Allen West, Repents

Political extremism, loose-cannon comments, and politicians who vaguely or directly imply violence in their rhetoric have occupied airwaves for some time, and finally, the media are calling out the geyser of intolerance for indirectly causing yesterday's Tucson, Arizona, shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and 11 others, a bloodbath that left six dead. This defining moment in American politics is an appalling example of where political discourse can lead, and describing it as extraordinarily regretful barely encompasses such a tragedy.

One of the first to acknowledge the danger media pundits' and politicians' words was, surprisingly or not, Keith Olbermann. Olbermann already called out Allen West for his unacceptable "incitement to violence" and took this opportunity to call out a litany of conservatives (again, including West) for running their mouths, though this issue does not necessarily adhere to party lines.

Sarah Palin -- "She must be repudiated by the members of her own party."
Jesse Kelly -- "He must be repudiated by Arizona's Republican Party."
Allen West -- "He should be repudiated by his constituents and the Republican Congressional Caucus.
Sharron Angle -- "She must be repudiated by her supporters in Nevada."
Tea Party Leaders -- "...must be repudiated by the Republican Party."
Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly -- Them too, you get it.

"If all of these are not responsible for what happened in Tucson, they must now be responsible for doing everything they can to make sure Tucson doesn't happen again," Olbermann says.

Olbermann also repudiates his own words that may have incited violence in any way. The general takeaway: Let's play nice, seriously. On the tails of such a public tragedy, it will be interesting to see if the discourse does indeed shift across party lines. Remember the Rally to Restore Sanity? Looks like America still has a great deal of work to that end.

Hi Tom2345, your absoultly on point! You too Senator!

Guernica (by Picasso), if interpreted and used properly, provides a dramatic illustration of the consequences of too much power in the hands of those who would be tyrants. It also shows the double standard of, and puts to a lie, the hysteria of politicians about the shootings in AZ.

The politicians don't have any qualms about the use of deadly force against the citizens of this country. But when the citizens respond to the violence perpetrated upon them by politicians in kind, the ruling class gets hysterical.

They need to learn the old maxim, "if you dish it out you better be ready to take it"

Differences of opinion are what drive the success of our republic. However, Government sanctioned violence to stifle differences of opinion started against the people by the Unions, the police, and the Federal Alphabet agencies as a part of the "Right to unhindered Collective Bargaining (by any means necessary), "War on Drugs" and "Homeland Security". It continues today through the TSA, the NSA, and the rest of the Federal and State alphabet soup.

However, the Left has declared war upon us and our Liberty and has perpetrated violence against innocent men, women and children in this country in order to attain and retain their tyrannical powers, just as Franco did when he called in the German Air Force to destroy Guernica and murder all its inhabitants.

The Left has no business whining about the deaths that occurred in AZ. These deaths were just a natural response to the violence the Left has inflicted upon us.

I grieve for the collateral damage done to the innocents.

However, the Ruling Class must be made aware they will be held accountable for the violence and suppression of Liberty they have inflicted upon the citizens of this country.

Olbermann is to Beck, what stink is to poop. Find other things to do with your time and don't watch either one. Right, Left, whatever -- they're both detrimental.

The military is the purest form of socialism in this country. I our soldiers and sailors have pre-cradle to post-grave socialism, and it seems to work very well for them, and us. So why should we make corporate and health care CEOs multimillionaires while we pay $1,000 deductibles, when we could have effective socialism for those of us who are not professional killers in the military?

There is no such thing as EFFECTIVE SOCIALISM. Read history, that will speak for itself. The welfare system is a form of socialism, that has HURT people more that it has helped people, in the long run. Military personnel are NOT civilians. That's like comparing apples to tomatoes. While they SERVE they are entitled to benefits. Most Americans are sick and tired of their taxes going to people that have made the welfare state, a way of life, for the past 3 generations.

When is Olbermann going to "repudiate" the left and our president for their class and racism demagoguery that are more of an "incitement to violence" than anything coming from conservatives?

You people think the Obama administration is more divisive than the Bush administration, really? And where are all those liberal hippies with guns and insane YouTube posts? Oh yeah, there are none? Because half of this country is concerned with peacefully governing and moving the nation out of an era of mass corruption, war, poverty, and idiotic (Palin) rhetoric. The other half is interested in making money, shooting things, and saying and doing whatever they have to (regardless of the consequences) to continue doing those things.

To the people who call for the "overthrow" of the government, who call the president a "tyrant," who casually use violent words and images, this is what you are asking for. The next stray bullets could end up killing someone you love.

I believe the majority of the American people, do not care to have this great country COMPLETELY SOCIALIZED, that is what they are unhappy with! I also believe that the majority of the Democratic party has become a "Socialist" party, ( as some Repubs as well) This country is not about bigger government, higher, and higher taxes, and more government control in ones life. The so called "Progressive movement" is really taking us backwards, not forward as their name implies.

The lunatic fringe is expanding exponentially. When the parrots in the political audience spout their hatred, the one component they have the most effect on is their validation of some violent act as the answer, No, they don't commit the act, but they offer validation that is the trigger for events, such as these. These open ended , absolute "solutions" are only amended after the crime, as some form of denial. In a non comedic way, all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

We can expect that the Christian extremist Republican right will *double* their violent hate rhetoric against America's values, they certainly won't stop it.

You people (left wingers) are really out of touch with reality. While we are pointing fingers, why not point it at one of the most devisive administrations in a very long time?? Just why are over half of the American people so dissatisfied with it?? To use this horrendous tragedy, as a political platform is dispicable.

I heard people saying Keith Obermann blamed many others for what one indivdual did. The fanatical ranting of Oberamann is why people are turning off NBC in mass numbers. Obermann is trying to use this crime as a platform.

NBC....is this the best you have?

ANOTHER typical idiotic, sophomoric, shallow Republican, Right-Wingnut comment.

Baffoons and clowns like Palin, Glenn Beck, and Bill O'Reilly will always attract more numbers, because in America, ignorance abounds and reasoned, well thought-out, intelligent discourse, such as the kind that's found on MSNBC isn't attractive to the ignorant masses.

Good luck with your (obvious) ignorance and lackey following of Glenn Beck and the other right-wing-nut clowns.

Quondel

If you, Lars Lazlo, and those who share your opinion about Glenn Beck (including Keith Olbermann) were to actually watch and listen to Glenn Beck's program for more than a few minutes, you'd know that for the past year, he has preached and begged for his viewers and those who would listen to them, if not himself, not to react to the political climate with violence and anger. If you were to actually do your own research into the true facts and not just regurgitate the lies and misguided misinformation that many Progressives spew on a daily basis, you might actually realize that your rhetoric is much more vitriolic and hate-filled than the rhetoric from the right. Your uncalled-for name-calling, as well as your accusations based on emotions instead of actual facts to the comments from others who you disagree with pertaining to this article (as well as your anticipated angry response to my comments), demonstrate an unwillingness on your part to tone down your own hostile rhetoric, while preaching to others how they should behave. The comments that you're responding to don't resort to name-calling or using near-profanity, but you do. Do you think that really helps to persuade readers to embrace your viewpoint. It's not likely.

Wouldn't surprise me if this nutjob watched a whole lot more Keith Olbermann than Glenn Beck.
