Don't You Feel Safe Now That They Got This Menace Out of Her Bedroom?

This is Coral Park Elementary School Principal Amanda Miles, who was arrested by the Coral Springs Police for having 21 grams of marijuana (three quarters of an ounce) in her bedroom.

Miles in jail.

Is this really what our police are spending their time doing -- busting 60-year-old women in their bedrooms? Here's a comment on this from the Sun-Sentinel site:

"Dr. Amanda Miles has been the best principal Coral Park Elementary has had in the years my children have attended the school. She does so much for the school and really gives 110% everyday. Dr. Miles really cares about our children and she motivates them daily with her kind words. She acknowledges their achievement and helps them when they are down.

"I hope she's back at Coral Park ASAP. It's ridiculous that some are comparing marijuana to alcohol, they are not the same and don't effect people the same way. NO everyone who smokes does not have to smoke everyday or all day. There are too many myths. It's legal in some states and medically helpful to so many.

"There are so many things in the world we should be worried about, having a principal who smokes in her own home on her own time should not be one of them."

Well done. It's true that police say Miles' 18-year-old son had about four ounces in his possession, according to police, but again, why are police out busting small marijuana cases when there is real crime in our governments and on our streets? Principal Miles could spend five years in prison for the possession felony.

Inside see a small honor for the Pulp, sort of.

When WPLG-Channel 10 decided to do its list of overrated and underrated things in South Florida, it gave a nod to the blogmeister:

Now understand that this was a bittersweet moment for Miami New Times, since I don't write for them. I'm a Broward man all the way, though it's also true that my stuff gets published down there every now and again. Anyway, it was nice.

So which local newspaper did the TV station deem overrated?

The Miami Herald.

Don't take this as a dig against the reporters there -- because they still have a lot of good ones -- but the Herald is a pale shadow of the juggernaut that it was in, say, the '80s and even early '90s. Corporate ownership began the dismantling, and the recent economic downturn finished it off.

Note: I'm told the Sun-Sentinel was disqualified from being deemed overrated because it has apparently never been praised before.

I've been busy with other things. I have to comment on this though and I will be back later to provide links (I just have to go get them).

First, this had of have been from a LE investigation. If SIU would have investigated, it would have been swept under the rug with no arrests. I say that because there are many many teachers and administrators that have been "busted" by SIU, brought up in front of the State DOE - but never arrested.

The most heinous, I my opinion was a teacher at Stoneman Douglas. The Order from the State DOE clearly spells it all out. This teacher stole nine Methadone pills from another teacher while on campus. Yes, I said Methadone. All this guy got was a written reprimand and a fine. The teacher that had the Methadone was never disciplined at all (that I can find). The Methadone thief was then transferred to another area high school and was then brought back in front of the State DOE for other charges. This happened TWICE. So, this guy got away with everything and was brought up to the State DOE three times before they finally permanently revoked his teaching certificate.

If the School Board and SIU get involved - they dont' notify LE (I know they will say they do - but they don't). They sweep it under the rug and life goes on. If loceal LE gets involved, well you see the results.

I also believe that is the case with the Hallandale High principal as well. He beat his daughter with an electrical cord. I'm all for discipline but that just crosses the line. I am appalled that there are students and parents that are supporting this "abuser". How sad, but it does show the sad state of our public schools in Broward.

As for "Methadone Dude" - what I like to call him. Can you imagine the outrage from the public if that story had been "allowed" to be reported? Why wasn't it reported to the public? It never has been. Only researchers who know where to look can find these sordid nasty details. But they are out there.

Funny, a principal with a little bit of weed (in her bedroom I might add) not only gets busted and thrown in jail, her reputation gets smeared in the media but TWO teachers on a high school campus - one carrying Methadone to school and another one that steals it from her get a pass and are allowed to carry on with our children.

Broward schools are a cesspool and its our children that are suffering.

I'll be back later and post the link to the docs and you can read about "Methadone Dude" for yourself.

I bet her son sold some weed out of the house and the subsequent warrant led to the possession charge for mom since she had her own stash. This is more serious than Pulp concluded. Her son may have been a drug dealer (selling to kids? bringing undesirables to the neighborhood? adding to other crime?) to the point people, probably her neighbors who were sick of the traffic to the home, complained to the police.

She is responsible for the safety and education of our children. I bet there's even a DARE program in her school. She should be ashamed of herself. Especially is she raised her offspring to be a drug dealer. Let her claim she didn't know. Flag Like ReplyReply

Dr. Miles is a decent Principal in Broward County but that is not saying much. Dr. Miles has recently been in eastern or far western schools with children of above average income parents. That alone skews how you judge a Principals performance. Having dealt with her I can tell you she has little regard for others she considers "inferior" to her. If she goes down on a simple pot charge that is a shame but no great loss to the District.

George Washington and many of our "founding fathers" smoked and grew marijuana.

Our current "war on drugs" would have had George Washington and the founding fathers labeled as criminals.

The "war on drugs" is really "the war on civil liberties".

The founding fathers knew and respected the use of marijuana and other drugs.

They would be appalled to find out whats going in this country today.

Hubby was around a lot of ppl this weekend who work for the School Board; it's all they were talking about. Someone looked up to see what positions were/are open at Coral Park Elementary. I THINK (?) someone noticed that an Asst Principal position had been open. They were wondering if there was any connection, say perhaps... an Asst Principal who was recently fired & could've been angry at her? This was pure conjecture on their part - but an interesting possibility.

The evening before his killing spree, Jared Loughner stopped by Walgreens and picked up prints from the photo department showing him holding a Glock 19 while wearing only a bright red G-string.

Who uses film cameras nowadays (especially for those embarrassing g-string shots)? I guess he IS nuts and this wasn't politically motivated.

Sorry, Sarah Palin and Tea Party.

My daughter and all the children in that school absolutely loves Dr. miles and are very upset. She makes each child feel special and cared about, with a hug or an encouraging word. We want her to know we are all behind her. I hope the Coral Springs police are very proud of themselves too. With all the real criminals still walking around out there. 21grams and not 20, come on are they really going ruin this womes life to advance their carreers..Id like to know how many rapes or real drug deals were going down in the city while they were preparing fo their BIG bust!! I want to be there when they ask for raises from my tax dollars. It sounds like they are AFRAID of the real criminals.

The way I look at it the medical issue has to be her best defense. The public sympathy will go her way on that. I haven't seen any reference to her cancer in any news media yet. I agree with Btan it was probably the son's dealing that brought them to her house. This could be a start for a landmark case to change the Florida Laws. You do realize, of course the real reason nothing happened except cover-ups at Stoneman Douglas? The principal at Stoneman Douglas is married to the (former) Acting Director of SIU. Her husband went from Investigator, to acting police supervisor, to acting director, and back down to Investigator. Since November of 2008, he has not been assigned one case and spends his days roaming the halls of the Crystal Palace rubbing elbows with his friends in HR. These HR friends were instrumental in re-writing the Director's job description so that an Investigator with barely more than an Associates Degree could not only meet the minimum requirements, but jump over applicants with Masters degrees. The entire system is corrupt, but even worse, the foxes are guarding the henhouse.

Wow, Guest. You have presented an awful lot of conjecture here. "I bet" ..."her son may have..." "probably her neighbors..." "I bet ..."

And you have suggested she be ashamed because of the story you just created after you asserted your opinion of her guilt.

How about getting a few facts before you ruin someone's life, at the very least, by your whisper campaign?

If the cops did not bust her ,you would never know she toked up a little for medicinal purposes or not... Dr. Miles. would still be the best Principal (with a Dorky son)l that school ever had.!!!....No folks what we gots here is another "Green Miles".......IMHO!!!

so sorry...That web site was for MA. They recently passed a law that practically decriminalizes pot. What's criminal is if one state would allow someone to go free and another state would send them to prison for the same offense.

As the sentinel blog posts seem to infer, her son was dealing and the neighbors complained about the constant in/out traffic to their home. Might be something Pulp should check out.

skydove

A related possibility is that this might have been brought about by the kids, with no or insufficient thought to Mrs. Miles. If the son was dealing, he might have been dimed by a contemporary who either didn't know about the mom's medical use or never thought the cops would go after her. It's possible, too, that the son had lightheartedly bragged that his product was "medical grade," keeping dear old Mom going, &c. Information like that gets around and might have come to the attention of someone the son hadn't intended to share it with.

Or, it could be retribution for something. You know how things works around here. If she is an assistant principal, there could be lots of issues with the politics that goes with it, or something related outside the school system as well.

that's what I was wondering. That, or the son's dealing got the spotlight on her.

Creepy that they went so far to get a search warrant for that amount, when there are FAR bigger drug probs that need attention. Pill mills anyone???????

And what's so stupid is that if they were in Miami Beach or other more "lenient" places, this never would've occurred. (though 4 oz IS 4 ounces..)

Still.... damn!

Now that you have had the opportunity to get your story out, so to speak -- I would say that you have both to your credit. That would be B_tan (the name and pictue) and a story that (compared to much of the drivel that shows up on this board) is Better Than a Novel. Way to go, B_tan.
