Miami Appeals Court Rules Against Florida's Gay Adoption Ban

Florida is the only state to specifically ban adoption by gay and lesbian couples, but that may soon change. The Florida Third District Court of Appeals has ruled that the ban was unconstitutional. The ban will now head to the Florida Supreme Court, which could reverse it statewide.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was in the unenviable position of trying to defend this absurd, 33-year-old ban. Its attorneys cited a study that children would face less discrimination if they were adopted by straight couples.
