[CORRECTION] Victim in Road Rage Incident Had History of Driving Dangerously

Murdock had a black Toyota Tacoma like this one filling the Honda Civic's rearview mirror.
Cleveland Murdock, the 38-year-old man who shot and killed a man who attacked him Wednesday in Pompano Beach, has to hope the Broward State Attorney's Office isn't feeling aggressive. Because prosecutors will now be reviewing evidence gathered from interviews with Murdock and witnesses to that fatal shooting to decide whether Murdock's claim of killing Patrick Lavoie Jr. in defense is legit.

Ironically, it's Lavoie whose driving record contained a citation for tailgating, although it was Murdock's alleged tailgating that is said to have infuriated Lavoie.
Lavoie also had a DUI on his record.

In Broward County, Murdock's driving record is clean, but in Palm Beach County, he's been cited six times in the past five years for assorted traffic violations -- the county's computer database does not indicate what specific traffic offenses Murdock committed.

He had every reason to be a careful, conscientious driver when the incident occurred on Wednesday, considering that only two days before, Murdock had paid a $126 fine to settle his most recent traffic case.

Correction: A previous version of this post, which was published only briefly, identified Murdock as having the citation for tailgating and DUI. It has been corrected to reflect that Lavoie had those citations on his record. We regret the error.
