This Is How a "Great American" Arrives to a Campaign Event

• Most of you have missed the message.  At least the one I ( the owner of the POW * MIA Tribute Car ) is making.  There are 3,578 names on this car.  They are the names of America's Hero's who did what was asked of them by this Great Nation.  In 1973 the vietnam government released 573 of these Brave American's. Note: Not all were military,  some were cilivians, some were foreign nationals, as well as around 20+ women cilivans. ( you can check the true and correct numbers and names of all of these people by going to>  Info@pownetwork.org ) The Families deserve our loyality and our help in finding ways to account for the return of our POW*MIA. You can also contact the National Leauge of Families in Washington D.C. as to what you can do.  Today they are around 1,957 American's still unaccounted for from the vietnam conflict. Not to mention the 7,186 still missing from the Korean conflict or the 78,000 missing from World War Two. These Families have made great sacrifices known only to them. Freedom is not free.  Freedom comes at a terrible cost.  I know as do all real combat veterans know. • I apologize, that was a typo and I meant to mention Mr. Stevens. But answer this: in the grander scheme of atrocities in this world, where does Allen West's actions fit in? Our country does not sustain child marriage or sex trafficking, genital mutilation or persecution of homosexuals; we are a just nation and are still that beacon of human rights. The flames in our beacon may flicker from time to time, but they always will burn. Remember that this weekend especially when you can appreciate a relaxing weekend of fireworks and barbecued goodies. NO ONE is perfect - not America, not Amnesty International, not Allen West. But we each make choices that we judge will better our own condition as well as those of others around us.

• @Bear Sorry, but I wholeheartedly disagree... As someone who has volunteered with Amnesty International for the last 2 decades, let me suggest that West's actions make him very unAmerican. Don't you remember when the world considered us the good guys? The beacon of light for Human Rights. We not only signed such documents, we made them happen. West sickens me and the hooray mentality associated with him is very disturbing to say the least. I am suggesting that West is lucky that very powerful people intervened on his behalf, otherwise he'd be breaking big rocks into little rocks.

• I would love to see how Mr. Francis and Mr. Stevens might react should either of them be told of a plot against his life. And because neither has served in the military (which is obvious from their disdain for a POW-MIA commemoration event), imagine how Francis and Stevens would respond to a plot against their own lives and those of their families. Man is selfish, and one person cannot understand another's situation until he endures it himself. They simply do not understand. Is Mr. Francis so dignified that he may dictate what is and what is not torture? No. And can Fact Check call Allen West a coward when the Lt. Col. flew overseas to protect him and his country? No. Such claims cannot be validated by one individual alone. One does not have the power to make his opinion into fact. Saying that Allen West had no right to be at the ceremony is the same as saying no one else had the right to be there either. He is an American, just like Francis and Stevens. And if you try to deny him the privilege to honor this country, then you are denying yourselves the same one.

• @fact check: The guy West abused was taken into custody (i.e. a prisoner) during a period when the U.S. was at war with Iraq. Was he technically a prisoner of war? Maybe. Maybe not. But that's semantics. The point is that if we torture the soldiers (or double agents or whatever) who belong to their side, then there's no reason for them not to torture the soldiers who belong to our side. I haven't served in combat; so what? Is that prerequisite to having an opinion about how POWs should be treated? The communists and electric car were jokes about West's paranoia about socialism and Gore's uber-environmentalism, respectively.

• Let's talk about the unPrisoner of War. Dude by the name of Yehiya Hamoodi. ** Released after 45 days. ** Never charged. ** No evidence of a plot from the "intel" he gave up after being threatened with his life. ** At a pre-trial hearing, West concedes "It's possible I was wrong about Mr Hamoodi." West, yeah, he's a great American hero. Fuck not. Fucking coward. In the end, I say a round of golf claps to Fact Checker - we should give him credit for typing in Mixed Case. Normally, most Tea Baggers ONLY SHOUT on the Internet. Now, if only he/she/it could just master the art and science of punctuation...

• First of all, the person that West was accused of mistreating was not a POW. The whole thesis of your article is based on a false premise. How do you and Chaz Stevens of all people tell somebody else they don't belong anywhere close to a POW-MIA memorial? When and where did either of you ever serve in combat or in other way? When did West ever call unionized workers communists? What kind of electric car does Gore drive? Just making up crap like this is not good journalism. It appeals, of course, to mental cases like Chaz Stevens.
