Yesterday's episode in the ongoing protest/counterprotest drama centered at Puppy Palace in Hollywood was quieter and more peaceful than usual. The surreal battle, which started with regular animal-rights protests outside the store earlier this year, has included adults dressed as dogs, Hitler-vegetarian references, disputes over PETA, controversial photos of a little girl, a petting zoo, and bags of dog poop.

But this week, when the 25 or so protesters arrived for the scheduled demonstration, their regular opposition was gone. For the first time in months, there were no counterprotesters out front. Just signs telling the public that there was a big puppy sale and that the people with signs were "crazy activists."

Protesters said they persuaded at least one family not to go into the store.
