Broward Roller Derby "Grrl" With Lupus Holds Fundraiser on Skates
For all the thrills and spills that come with a roller derby match, it's a pretty unlikely scene for a fundraiser. But then, it's also unlikely that a girl who suffers from lupus would lace up skates for such a brutal sport. So Saturday's fundraiser at the Gold Coast Roller Rink in Fort Lauderdale was a way to tackle a grueling disease and to celebrate the toughness of Freak-a-rella, the roller derby skater who must deal with the chronic condition.
