- A Nova Southeastern University science professor is believed to be dead following a home invasion early Tuesday morning. Police say a man and his wife were tied up by an intruder, who shot the man -- believed to be homeowner Joseph Morrissey -- and then set the house on fire. The victim's wife was able to free herself and escape the burning home with the couple's child. [Sun-Sentinel]
- The decision by Diana Wasserman-Rubin to not run for reelection to the Broward County Commission has prompted a run by Angelo Castillo, a Pembroke Pines commissioner. A former Weston commissioner, Daniel Stermer, is also considering a campaign. And former Florida Sen. Steve Geller may declare for that open seat, abandoning his bid to oust Sue Gunzburger. - The criminal trial of former Miramar Commissioner Fitzroy Salesman delivered a cinematic scene Monday as an old man pretending to be a dirty business owner counted out 30 $100 bills, put them in three stacks, and handed them to Salesman, who put them in his pocket and promised to make good on the man's investment.
