Today marks the three-year anniversary of the day that Robert "Bob" Levinson of Coral Springs disappeared from Kish Island, off the coast of Iran. A former FBI agent, Levinson was a private investigator following a tip about a cigarette smuggling case.

Despite negotiations by American diplomats and impassioned pleas by Levinson's family, the Iranian government has refused to say whether Levinson is alive or dead. Here you can see the family's latest effort: a letter from Levinson's daughter Sarah, who became engaged last month and holds out hope that her father is alive and will be released in time to give her away at the wedding.

It's the longest of long shots. An Iranian regime that is willing to steal an election, then murder protesters, is not likely to have a trace of compassion for an American family that misses its father.
