Here's what's happening in Palm Beach and Broward:
  • The Broward Sheriff's Office received a tentative agreement with Pompano Beach, but the commission approved a deal for just two and a half years, not five, and Sheriff Al Lamberti will have to demonstrate he can control salary increases and the cost of health care. It does save more than 300 BSO jobs. [Sun-Sentinel]
  • Roughly 300 teachers and parents staged a protest yesterday near the headquarters of the Broward County School District in downtown Fort Lauderdale in hopes of discouraging cuts in the arts and physical education curriculum. [Miami Herald]
  • A former Boynton Beach high school student stands to get $32,000 in a settlement from the Palm Beach County School District. Cameron Frazier was 17 when he was removed from class for refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. [Palm Beach Post]
  • In the latest effort to learn what's behind the cancer cluster in The Acreage community, Palm Beach County health officials will study the recycled fill that's spread across properties in the town. [CBS4]
  • Health-care reform protesters hit Boca Raton last night, waving signs at the corner of Glades Road and St. Andrews. [WPLG-10]
