The local headlines this Monday morning:
  • Hollywood's charter review committee has drafted a list of ethics reforms that would try to prevent incidents like the one that got former commissioner Keith Wasserstrom thrown in jail. But those reforms still need the support of the city seven commissioners. [Miami Herald]
  • Broward State Attorney Michael Satz defended his egregious record for prosecuting public corruption, saying that those are really hard cases and that federal prosecutors have been more effective thanks to their superior resources. [Sun-Sentinel]
  • A West Palm Beach dermatologist who sits on the Florida Board of Medicine describes the state medical regulators' frustration over the failure by state legislators to pass bills that would protect South Florida from the pill mills that have become a national embarrassment. [Palm Beach Post]
  • In a letter to a constituent, Broward Mayor Ken Keechl offered the first public explanation for why he feels entitled to collect rent from his reelection campaign: Because he claims to have spent $180,000 of his own money to win his seat in the first place, "so on balance I thought it was fair." [Daily Pulp]
  • West Palm Beach's new and improved (and controversial) waterfront made its debut this weekend. Businesses on Clematis Street were thrilled to see such crowds. Will they last? [WPTV]
