Charity President, Figure in Deerfield Beach Investigation, Will Not Comment

Mae Frances Feagin, president of Arlington Park Family in 2007, when the nonprofit accepted a $30,000 grant from the City of Deerfield Beach, declined to discuss how that money was spent during a brief phone call Tuesday evening.

Juice had been trying to reach Feagin for the past week after having learned that the city had been seeking to learn how her charity used the money. Arlington Park had not responded to two letters from City Attorney Andy Maurodis. There had been no answer at listed numbers for Feagin, and the phone number for Arlington Park family did not work.

But I got a new number on Tuesday, and this time I reached Feagin. It appears her reticence is related to deaths in her own family. "I just lost my mother and my sister," she said. "Now is not the time to talk to me."

Archie McKeithen, who says he was the charity's former treasurer, told Juice last week that he left Arlington Park Family after becoming upset about how Feagin and other charity leaders handled that city grant.
