In this week's print edition, Francisco Alvarado tells the story of two South Florida film makers chronicling the triumphant rise and embarrassing fall of the Miami Hurricanes. In The U, set to air locally next week and then nationally on ESPN, Billy Corben and Alfred Spellman place the football team's rise against an Eighties-era Miami rippped to shreds by race riots. "It was a very tumultuous time," said Spellman. "And it was right around that time the university started to go into Miami's inner-city neighborhoods to recruit players." Read more about the Canes' riveting history here.

In our feature, Gail Shepherd introduces us to Harvey Oyer III, a West Palm Beach lawyer who abandoned sunny South Florida for the dangerous countryside of New Guinea, where he found rare Papuan villages, documenting them before their history, culture, and tribe becomes extinct.

On the heels of the hugely successful release of the Twilight Saga's New Moon, Fort Lauderdale is taking a nibble from that film's fame, hosting the Fantasy Twi-Life Tour at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 hotel. Thirsty Twilight addicts can sink their teeth into all things vampire, starting tomorrow at the celebrity convention that will feature stars from the hit movies and book series, role play and costume contests, autograph sessions, and cocktail parties.

Also in Night & Day, the Buzz Bake Sale is back with a vengeance. You can expect lots of alkies and head banging at this 12-hour rock fest, starting this weekend.
