When is the bar going to do an investigation on Nurik on conflict of interest charges. He is an attorney that should be a witness in the ponzi scam. These allegations directly pertain to Scott Rothstein and both involve the criminal allegations of Scott Rothstein his client. A lawyer cannot be a witness and also defend someone.

Also his interests directly conflict with Rothsteins' interests. He needs to say that he had no involvement in the trust account violation and that he had no involvement in laundering the ponzi monies that it was all Scott Rothstein's doing. In order to absolve himself of wrongdoing he needs to blame Scott that is another direct conflict.

Rothstein firm advanced millions to employees

The defunct law firm of accused Ponzi operator Scott W. Rothstein made millions of dollars in loans or advances to employees in the last few years, new court documents show.

The documents for Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler, filed late Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, said the firm has $1.4 billion in liabilities and only $42.9 million in assets, painting a bleak picture for recovery of claims.

The documents list $34.8 million in apparent payments to various individuals between 2007 and 2009, including many of the firm’s former employees and attorneys. In some cases, those loans were partially paid back, but there’s an outstanding balance of $23.9 million in “advances to non-debtor third parties.”

Among those on the list is Steven Lippman, who is said to have received $8.9 million. Lippman was recently hired by Rice Pugatch Robinson & Schiller in Fort Lauderdale.

According to the schedules, Lippman repaid $6.5 million, leaving an outstanding balance of $2.4 million.

Lippman could not be immediately reached for comment.

The schedules were filed by Herbert Stettin, the court-appointed bankruptcy trustee in the Chapter 11 wind-down of the firm. Stettin told the court that RRA’s books are in disarray, and he does not have complete information on many facets of the firm’s finances.

Other advances shown on the schedules include:

Millions of dollars in loans or advances to Bova Group restaurants, none of which has been repaid. According to the schedules, RRA spent $117,000 on a planned restaurant called Bova Smoke, which never happened.
Stuart Rosenfeldt, co-owner of RRA, received $916,011 in loans or advances. The schedules show that Rosenfeldt, who recently formed a new law firm, repaid $474,144, leaving a balance of $441,867.
Marc Nurik received $190,000 in loans. The former RRA partner who represents Rothstein, was not repaid, according to court documents.
The bulk of that money was paid to Nurik in 2009. He told the Business Journal in November that he was not paid a retainer to represent Rothstein and that he had ensured that he was being paid from legitimate sources.
Riley Cirulnick, former RRA attorney who was recently hired by Rice Pugatch, received $1.8 million in loans. The schedules show they have not been repaid.

Other details in the documents include:

RRA has claim to 20 million American Express points, which are stated as having unknown value.
RRA claims $4 million in accounts with TD Bank and Gibraltar Private Bank & Trust. Stettin previously filed motions to recover those accounts, which were seized by federal authorities.

So Nurik owes money to RRA? How can he possibly continue representing Scott?

The article said that Rothstein has about 20 million AMEX reward points. AMEX gives you a point for every dollar you spend. So Rothstein must have spent $20 million using his AMEX card or maybe he purchased $20M worth of AMEX gift cards or possibly some combination of the two. I think I read somewhere that $80,000 in AMEX cards have been recovered. There could be a lot more out there hidden somewhere.

FYI, an AMEX reward point is worth about a penny. So 20 million points is only worth about $200,000 dollars.

Bernard Madoff, who is serving a 150-year sentence in a federal prison in Butner, N.C., is now housed in a low-security medical center at the prison, according to the Bureau of Prisons. It's unclear why the 71-year-old was moved there from a medium-security facility and what ailment he may be suffering.

Mr. Madoff as recently as two weeks ago was housed in the medium security facility. Mr. Madoff's physical condition hasn't been publicly disclosed, though the Bureau of Prisons said in response to a news report earlier this year that Mr. Madoff has not been diagnosed with cancer.

There is a dilemma going on in Broward Politics right now.

People are torn with the decision for Freda Stevens to run for Davie District 2. The reason they are torn is because they are battling with the idea that Barbra/Judy Stern would be able to run unopposed for State House District 91.

The whole concept is VERY troubling to the point where prominent people are coming out of the woodwork to try to convince Stevens to run again. They are promising her hard cold cash upfront this time. But, you can't drink from the same well twice. Stevens has been down that rode before with Jenne & the wad of gum Harris.

Now there is another dilemma brewing on this issue: in broward there is always something.

Which would bring the greater satisfaction?

a) Defeating Judy Stern's spawn BS in the State House 91 Primary Election. For the sake of argument it would not even matter if Stevens won the State House 91 General Election or not. The joy of beating the shit out of Judy Stern in the Primary would be worth it!

OR

b) Easily defeating Caryl Hattan in the Davie District 2 race, of which Stevens is a shoo-in.

Damn tough questions.

Oh well, this is broward maybe whose running for one seat won't be running for that seat in January. Maybe they will and maybe they won't...well see.

Forget the fact attorney Scott Rothstein stole more than $1.2 billion in a Ponzi scheme and then tried to flee the country. Just look at his charitable donations to know that the man who seemed so cold-blooded while tricking his friends and family really did have a warm spot after all.

Through his now defunct South Florida law firm, Rothstein gave more than $6 million in the past year to local charities and nonprofit groups.

A federal bankruptcy court filing details contributions by the firm Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler to more than 100 organizations. The biggest amount was more than $2.5 million to Rothstein's own Rothstein Family Foundation.

Big donations also went to Boys and Girls Clubs, arts groups, Jewish organizations and several groups affiliated with professional athletes.

Clearly, Rothstein loves the kids.

Of course, some of the Ponzi money went to fund Rothstein's lavish lifestyle, all his over the top cars and his big contributions to political pals, but when you hear about the charitable donations, doesn't it make it a little easier to swallow? OK, maybe not.

But investors who feel jilted after losing millions to Rothstein's lying and stealing should take heart in knowing their cash went to a good cause.
