Rothstein's Guide in Morocco Tells His Story

By Bob Norman, Mon., Dec. 7 2009 @ 4:15PM

Ahnich Khalid's eyes misted over, and the tears started falling.

"Why me?" he asked with choked emotion. "I keep asking that question. Why me? I am a little guy; I work all the time; I have a wife, two kids, a mortgage on a small townhouse. How did this happen to me?"

The G-5 to Morocco.

The answer is simple: Scott Rothstein happened to him.

When Rothstein made his strange trip to Morocco as his Ponzi scheme was falling apart, it was Khalid whom he used as his entree to Casablanca. Khalid flew to Morocco with Rothstein and Rothstein's uncle, Bill Boockvor, on October 27 and spent six days serving basically as a guide for Rothstein in Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakesh before the Ponzi schemer's dramatic return November 2.

Khalid, a U.S. citizen and Boca Raton resident who has lived in America for 24 years, told me during an hourlong interview at JB's in Deerfield Beach that until the last night there he believed Rothstein was what he claimed to be: A very wealthy and powerful man with friends in high places looking to invest large sums of money into Morocco.

He said that during the Moroccan trip, Rothstein unexpectedly transferred $16 million into Khalid's account at Banque Populaire in Casablanca. In the recent information filed by federal officials charging Rothstein with racketeering and other charges, prosecutors wrote that "up to the amount of $2 million" was still held in Khalid's account. Khalid, however, says that is not so. He said that he immediately transferred the entire $16 million over to Rothstein's newly formed Moroccan account and that he has none of it. He said he spoke with the feds upon his return to the States and gave them the bank transfer information.

"I will write you a check for $2 million, and if you can cash it and get the money, please

do," Khalid said. "I wouldn't want it anyway. I just want my life to return to normal."

Khalid says his international whirlwind with Rothstein began October 20 when a Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler attorney whom he knew from his work in the restaurant business told him that her boss was looking to invest in Morocco. He said that the attorney, whom he wouldn't name because he felt that she was also an innocent victim of Rothstein's, told him that Rothstein had sent an email out to all attorneys telling them that he was interested in investing in Morroco, Venezuela, and Costa Rica.

Khalid, a professional and personable man who was dressed in his work attire of a neatly pressed shirt and tie, said that the attorney knew he was from Morocco and that he had an interest in fostering ties between his two countries. In fact, just a few weeks before, he had been in Washington, D.C., at the Moroccan Embassy for a meeting of the Moroccan American Coalition, of which he is a member. That D.C. meeting focused on bringing American investments to Morocco.

"She told me that she had worked for him for three years and that he was involved in several businesses and that he has a lot of money and he might want to go with me to Morocco," said Khalid. "I said that I had five weeks of vacation available and I might be able to take a week off for it."

Five days later, on Sunday, October 25, he met Rothstein and the other attorney at Rothstein's office in the Bank of America building. "It was a beautiful office," he recalled. "And all the pictures. George Bush, Jeb Bush, Cosby, Schwarzenegger, McCain, you name it. I was impressed with all the pictures and the office."

At that point, Khalid choked up, one of four times he wept during the interview.

"How did this happen?" he said. "I have never had a speeding ticket during my life."

Khalid haltingly continued the story.

"Rothstein told me, 'I want to invest my money overseas. I read a book about Morocco, and it's a good country, and Morocco treats Jewish people very well. And he asked me if I could help him. I said, 'Absolutely, I can make calls for you. I can arrange a meeting with the mayor of Casablanca. I can show you around.'"

Unbeknown to Khalid, just a couple of days before that meeting, Rothstein had missed his first payment to investors, and some were already clamoring for the money he'd stolen. Rothstein was already lying low.

"To me, I was taking an investor to Morocco, not a thief," Khalid told me.

casablanca2.jpg
Casablanca

It was decided that Khalid would accompany Rothstein to Casablanca the following Tuesday night, October 27. The next day, Monday, Rothstein called Khalid and asked him if he could open a bank account in Morocco for him. Khalid called the bank and learned that an account couldn't be opened on the phone; it had to be in person, and the person opening the account had to have his valid American passport in hand.

He said Rothstein told him that he was going to transfer $40,000 to $50,000 to his account at Banque Populaire and that when they set up Rothstein's account, they would just transfer the money over. Khalid said he never even talked to Rothstein about any compensation for himself -- and wound up never getting the chance.

He said that he and the man introduced to him as "Uncle Bill" both arrived at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport for the flight on the chartered Gulfstream 5 jet before Rothstein got there. He said he sat in the jet chatting with Uncle Bill, who was a very nice person. He said he didn't see Rothstein until he walked onto the plane and missed his arrival with Broward Sheriff's Lt. David Benjamin.

The jet was nice but small, he said. There were two pilots and a flight attendant. They ate (he said he had a chicken dish and a Diet Coke) and chatted before sleeping most of the flight. He said that there were some drinks and that Rothstein, during the entire trip, "liked his Grey Goose" (which is ironic since Rothstein co-owned a vodka company, V Georgio, that was supposed to supplant Grey Goose as the top premium vodka in the world because it was supposedly cleaner and purer). But he said Rothstein was nothing but a consummate gentleman the entire trip. "He was the sweetest man," Khalid said. "He was the most polite and courteous man I met in my whole life."

They touched down in Casablanca at 9 a.m. Wednesday and checked into the Hyatt Regency Hotel there, all three of them staying in suites on the same floor (Rothstein footed the bill for Khalid's room, of course). Rothstein wanted to relax before doing anything and called him about 1:30 p.m. to go to the bank.

Once at the bank, Khalid introduced Rothstein to the manager, and they opened Rothstein's account. The money Rothstein said he was wiring from the U.S. hadn't arrived in Khalid's account yet, and they decided to return to the bank two days later, on Friday.

They went out to eat that night, and the following day, Thursday, Khalid showed him Casablanca. "The only thing he was interested in was business," said Khalid. "We talked about how he could open businesses in Morocco. He said he wanted to open hotels, restaurants, and schools. He wanted to open an American school to teach people about the U.S. He would stand on street corners and say, 'I'll put the hotel there and the restaurant there.' He had many plans."

Khalid said he got an idea just how big those plans were the next morning at the bank. He said that when they returned to the bank on Friday, the manager said, "Ahnich, there's a big amount of money in your account."

"Yes, he said he was putting $40,000 to $50,000 there," Khalid says he replied.

"No, it's $16 million."

"I said to him, 'Are you fucking kidding me?', pardon the expression."

Rothstein explained it to him, saying that the $16 million was the first installment of $100 million to $200 million he intended to transfer to the bank.

"I immediately transferred everything from my account to [Rothstein's] account, every penny," said Khalid. "And that's what I told the feds."

He held his hands up.

"That is all; I didn't get one penny," he said, symbolically wiping his hands clean.

That night, not surprisingly, the bank manager himself took them to dinner. Here was a man, Rothstein, who was going to be a huge customer, after all. "This was big-time business," Khalid said. "He's a lawyer, and he's got 20 other businesses, a vodka company, everything. The manager told him, 'Welcome to Morocco -- whatever we can do for you we will do.'"

The next day, they traveled to Marrakesh and got rooms at the Palmeraie Hotel. They were aware that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in town on that same day. It was Saturday, and Khalid said Rothstein had spoken of attending the opening of the Kerzner Mazagan Beach Resort that night in El Jadida, Morocco.

"We were going to go there because he said the vice president of the hotel company was his best friend," Khalid said. "But he said he didn't have an invitation, and that's why we didn't go."

They stayed in Marrakesh Saturday and Sunday nights, and Khalid said, again, it was all business. Rothstein would stand on street corners and envision a hotel or restaurant or school, even getting into square footage.

Looking back, Khalid said there was one thing he still can't understand, considering the fact that as they talked business and lounged at the hotels, Rothstein's entire life was unraveling back in the States.

On that Sunday, I broke the story about the implosion of Rothstein's Ponzi scheme here, and investors had a meeting to discuss the disaster. During the trip, Rothstein sent text messages to partners discussing suicide and telling friends who were losing fortunes that almost everything was lost.

Yet, "he was in a good mood the entire time," Khalid says with a bewildered tone. "He was always happy. He spent a lot of time at the hotel, and he loved the fact that in Morocco, he could smoke his cigars in the hotels and the restaurants whenever he wanted. He said, 'This is a nice place. I'm going to be going between the States and Morocco, back and forth.'"

Monday, they returned to Casablanca. And that's when Rothstein said he'd decided to go back to the States on Tuesday morning. Khalid reminded him that he had set up a meeting with the mayor of Casablanca on Tuesday and then another meeting with the mayor of Rabbat on Wednesday. Rothstein told him to cancel the meetings.

That evening in his hotel, Khalid says he received a call on his cell phone from the RRA attorney who arranged his meeting with Rothstein. She was crying.

"She said, 'I'm so sorry, but shit happened. He's in trouble; he's in so much trouble. He stole the money. There are a lot of victims. You can't go back with him. I want you to be safe. I put you in this situation, and I'm so sorry.'"

Khalid said he became so distraught at the phone call that he became physically ill and spent seven hours in the bathroom that night. The next morning, he took Rothstein and Boockvor to the airport and dropped them off, not telling them that he knew of the huge trouble awaiting him in America. Rothstein, he said, was as buoyant as ever, dressed in a T-shirt and jeans and seemingly happy as could be. Boockvor too seemed like nothing more than a great guy the entire trip, quiet but exceedingly friendly.

"When I dropped him off at the airport, he hugged me and said, 'I'll see you in the States; I'll take care of you,'" recalled Khalid with a look of disbelief.

Khalid visited with family that day and flew back on a commercial flight the next day. Shortly after returning, he spoke with the feds and gave them the banking records. He said that during a short interview, the agents were kind and understanding to him and realized that he was just another of Rothstein's victims. He said the RRA attorney also vouched for him and told them that she had gotten him into the mess. "She stood up for me," he said. "She went to the feds, and she told my whole story."

But even now, when he says he's certain that he did nothing wrong and can be in no trouble, he is hit with waves of emotion. The event has clearly traumatized him, and he says questions keep running through his mind. "I wonder why was I so naive," he told me. "But was I naive or just stupid? Am I the victim, or did I just help somebody that wasn't good. My wife..."

He breaks down into tears again.

"Why us? I try to help somebody, and look at what happens to me."

That is too comical to be genuine, no? Bragging, bragging, projecting billions w/i 5 years, highest bar tab ever for a wedding, etc. Shades of someone in our midst, no? Who provided the getaway.... Are all of the similarities coincidental?

Why would a woman ( who has her own millionare business)with a shopping addiction who is married to a multimillionaire divorce to take up with a billionaire but then marry someone with far less than millions less than 2 years later? Especially when her husband was claiming that billions were in his near future? Does that make any sense?

This whole story rattles my brain and sometimes I don't feel safe even thinking about it. I hope IP addresses are never released! Your advice was great..head to Margaritaville and forget this darkness BUT I am addicted and can't wait to see what happens in all of this. It's like a horrific accident that I am compelled to peek at with my hands over my eyes. The magnitude is unbelievable.

Is this true OC as we generally know it or what? Please keep writing and help us to understand.

Will you describe the velvet glove--what she/he might be like, please. Also, I get your idea that women can be the actors but it requires complicity, no?

To opine definitively that Khalid is lying without any objective evidence is pointless at best.

Keep in mind that Bob has had the benefit of sitting down with the man and looking him in the eye, which to a pro (If I might say so myself) may be the most important factor to determine if one is truthful.

Can't wait for more info, which I suspect will be Khalid's observations, if any, of Benjamin before boarding and SR during the five day trip. I'm assuming we will find out that Scotty was displaying manic behavior which includes the overconsumption of alcohol.

Second, I have been thinking about Melissa's murder and SR's simultaneous bulking up on police protection. I have always thought from day one that SR was too much of a mental midget to pull this off without some greater intellect and perhaps muscle. So, I throw a few questions out, which you may deem to be dumb questions, but I am just a simple person who is just naturally curious:

Was Uncle Bill really biological family or mafia family? Is it possible that Scott had an equal or greater partner in this ponzi scheme, and who was perhaps mafia connected? Could Melissa's murderer be this partner? Was SR's need for police protection convenient timing or did he have a real reason to be fearful?

Thank you in advance for your collective and individual insights and/or answers to my queries.

Rothstein told me, 'I want to invest my money overseas. I read a book about Morocco and it's a good country and Morocco treats Jewish people very well.'

It's amazing that Mr. Khalid would have fallen for that line. See friends, Jews aren't very well received in Morocco. And by well received I mean hated.

According to the Gods at Wikipedia, there are less than 7,000 Jews in the entire country. The dominant religion is Islam of the Sunni variety. For those unfamiliar, Sunni's have zero love lost for the bagel eating crowd (see Hezbollah, Boom Boom and Wahhabi, Bang Bang).

Having spent considerable time in Marrakech, I can only imagine how big of a target the 5'8", portly, loud mouth NY Jew must have been to the locals.

Maybe ahnik kahlid was paid 2 mil for an intro to someone high up in Casablanca. That's how it is done. I saw another post that said that also. I believe they are correct. There are lots of reasons people launder money. During WW2 Germany laundered through England to get their companies out so they could continue to do business. Then the most common was drug money which half of every deal can be counterfeit and then gets laudered into our money. This can really mess up a country over a period of time. When you put all of this together over a period of time it can collapse an infrastructure of a country.
Ponzis, medicare fraud, money launder etc.

In the dog and pony show that Levin put on for investors in 2008, he pointed to his successful real estate ventures as evidence of his business acumen. One of his investments is an old hotel in Atlantic City called Madison House.

Here's a bit more on Madison House from an article in 2006: (I apologize in advance for taking up so much bandwidth.)

Pinnacle accused of allowing landmark Atlantic City hotel to rot

By DONALD WITTKOWSKI Staff Writer

(Published: Saturday, February 14, 2009)

ATLANTIC CITY - Casino developer Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. is facing allegations it deliberately allowed a luxury hotel to deteriorate so it could buy it "on the cheap" to create more space for its proposed $1.5 billion megaresort.

Pinnacle inherited the lease for the 14-story Madison House Hotel when it bought the Sands Casino Hotel
in 2006 for $250 million from billionaire financier Carl C. Icahn.

The Madison, which opened in 1930 during the Great Depression, served as an adjunct hotel to the Sands starting in 2000. But when the Sands closed in 2006 and was imploded the following year, the Madison shut down as a hotel.

Now the Madison's private owners are accusing Pinnacle and its ACE Gaming LLC affiliate of violating the lease by not continuing the hotel operations. They claim in a Superior Court lawsuit that Pinnacle is in the process of "destroying the good name of the Madison House Hotel" by allowing it to rot.

"We perceive this to be a dying asset. It's nowhere near the grandeur of its former self," Philip D. Neuer, an attorney for the Madison House Group, said during oral arguments on the suit Friday. "We don't want this property to continue dying on the vine."

Pinnacle attorney Mark J. Briol declined to comment after the hearing. Company spokeswoman Carmen Gonzales said it is Pinnacle's policy not to comment on pending litigation.

Pinnacle and the Madison's owners are far apart in negotiations for the sale of the hotel. Although attorneys declined to divulge figures, Pinnacle Chairman Dan Lee said in a 2007 interview that the owners were asking $50 million for property he felt was worth about $2.5 million.

"It's a building they have put an extremely high value on," Briol told Superior Court Judge William C. Todd III.

Madison House Group is demanding unspecified damages from Pinnacle and ACE Gaming. For the moment, the case remains before Todd as it works its way through preliminary proceedings, although there is related litigation that could end up with the federal courts taking charge.

Pinnacle pays the Madison's owners $2 million annually on a lease that runs through 2012. The company has made no secret of its desire to buy the property and demolish it to create more room for a proposed Las Vegas-style casino
overlooking the Boardwalk. Plans for the casino have been indefinitely delayed by the recession and global credit crisis.

According to the suit, Pinnacle has neglected the hotel in hopes that the city would declare it "blighted" and in need of redevelopment, allowing the company to acquire the property "on the cheap" instead of paying the true value. City officials, however, rejected Pinnacle's request to classify it as a blighted building, the suit noted.

Now, the Madison's owners want Pinnacle to refurbish the building and run it as a luxury hotel. Pinnacle recently proposed transforming the Madison House into housing for foreign students who come to Atlantic City to work at the resort's casinos and other local businesses.

Neuer, the attorney for Madison House Group, alleged that Pinnacle would risk the safety of foreign students by allowing them to stay in a run-down building.

"They certainly allowed it to deteriorate," Neuer said. "It's a wasting asset. That's the only way to describe it."

When it first opened, the Madison House was considered a posh hotel. Constructed of red brick, the Colonial Revival-style building features marble floors, arched windows, chandeliers and an elegant staircase modeled after the one in Philadelphia's Independence Hall.

The Madison is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, giving it protected status but hardly an ironclad guarantee it will be saved from demolition.

We'll always have casablanca says:

Khalid did not go their just trying to help Rothstein out. Third Moroccan bank account owner happens to be SR's partner in Iguana. SR told Khalid he was going to open clubs under Iguana brand in Morocco and Khalid was going to be part owner and run them. Khalid went their expecting to be an owner and get something in addition to helping SR commit wire fraud. They were both in Morocco at the same time so why would SR not be able to open the account. Now Khalid realized he is in big trouble.

Also, if you transfer the full sixteen million to SR's account then why would $2 million still show in Khalid's account, it defies reason. Obviously he kept $2 million. The only reason the Feds went after the guy and he is now tearing up is because he refused to give up the 2 million.

I know the mayor of Rabat and business in Morocco works in a very special way. The mayors of Casablanca and Rabat were looking for their cut by helping SR.

5) Had a cheeseburger at Cap Grille today (the tasty fries too) and chatted with one of the waiters. He says that the girl everyone was asking about (name?) who was a hostess/party planner has moved to Atlanta.

6) PLEASE: More info on Kimmee and clawbacks!!!

Gay Rothstein is not Scotty's mother. She married Harvey Rothstein in 1980 when Scotty was 19 and was more interested in playing the Fonz than the Ponz. Uncle Bill is therefore step uncle Bill.

Pulp,
Speak to SSteve Caputi. He's normally very outspoken. How is his name on a Moroccan bank account for a $1 million.

I am in the cynics camp as regards Khalid. On the other hand maybe Rothstein had a dupe detector and was able to find the most naive and gullible people in Florida to partner and do business with.

Christy, i am having Peter Lorre play Khalid.

Great story though and my interest is back again

Sara Coen-Giovanelli has/had an office in the Dominican Republic. Her main skill as an immigration attorney was to get green cards for people who had money to invest. Trust me when I tell you that if you relied on her for any immigration advice other than that, there's a good chance you'd be violating immigration law.

Check back a few blogs to SR asking CC to help in any way he could with a few visiting folks from the DR.

I also posted links to the news story in (I think) El Diario.

I couldn't sort through all the posts to try to find this again, but who better to help get new money in than an attorney from the DR who just recently gave a speech there about how to con the mooches.

Kip needs to be investigated. I know someone on the inside of Joe DiMaggio’s & they even said when they couldn’t get the money or needed something thru Scott he used KIP to be the mediator if you will. Due in large part to her bitchy attitude needless to say Kip probably saved him some ponzi dollars b/c of her tactful negotiations and believe me NOBODY COULD STAND THE DWARF! Bob,

I think we appreciate the personal opinion you gave on Khalid Ahnich, though I do have to say that I'm not buying his story.

He may be a casualty, like many others...a minor victim of his own greed.

Some fishy things...
- another guy in the restaurant business?
- he was asked by a RRA attorney?
- he was able to exert some influence and arrange meetings in Morocco?
- 5 weeks vacation (in restaurant business)?
- Jews liked in Morocco?
- Was he really at the Moroccan Embassy a few weeks prior?
- Rothstein sweet and polite?

Bob...this sounds to me like a fabricated, canned story. That's what he told the FEDs, and he's sticking to it, eh?

Lets try this on for size...

Rothstein needed to get money to Morocco, to make a peace offering to Sol Kerzner. Khalid was the mechanism...nothing more. Sol told Rothstein to take his money and shove it, and get back to the United States. Sol wouldn't dare be photographed anywhere near Rothstein, nor would he allow Rothstein into his resort.

If not, where is it and who has it? Why does it seem like no one really cares about this story anymore outside a few croonies in downtown Ft. Laud? Yet Another Freakin' Lawyer Says: Rosenfeldt Had To Know says:

The lunacy during the night started by Petrano's nonsense does not bear repeating here, other than it did get me thinking about where the finger SHOULD be pointing - at Rosenfeldt not at The Florida Bar. No question The Florida Bar is not all it should be. It is a "good old boys" network, just like virtually every institution in Florida. So that means they look the other way for some lawyers and not others. By the way, so does the DBPR. There are ways the operations of the Florida Bar could be improved upon and monitored by the Florida Supreme Court. The idea to make the DBPR the regulator of the legal profession is impossible, idiotic and unconstitutional.

What IS important to understand is that the Florida Bar does not have eyes in the sky. It relies on people coming forward with complaints, citizens, clients, judges. Until Rothstein's scam blew open last month, there were no complaints. That is not the fault of The Florida Bar. This is not a police state, where all people are under suspicion, and are followed and all their business checked on. Until someone smelled a problem with Rothstein there was nothing to be done. The real fault here is with the people who SHOULD have known and who had an obligation to know - Rosenfeldt at minimum, and depending on the actual facts, possibly all"partners" who were accountable for the firm Trust Accounts (IF the accounts' shortages were evident on the account statements, which I doubt).

When a Florida attorney's trust account goes negative, the bank where it is maintained is supposed to forthwith notify the Florida Bar, and the Florida Bar immediately opens a case. The coverage to date seems to say that the trust accounts were raided at the time Rothstein made his run to Morocco, and may have balanced before that. If so, no one, in the firm or at the Florida Bar, would have had a clue.

On the other hand, Rosenfeldt was an EQUITY partner. That means among other things he had an interest in the assets of the firm and he had a share in the profits. How could he NOT have known that the firm was spending far more in salaries than it made ? His accountant had to do his tax returns, and had to account for Rosenfeldt's equity interest, so HAD TO SEE THE BOOKS. Did Rosenfeldt file tax returns for 2008 ? Should be real interesting to see what his schedules say about his interest in RRA.

It makes me laugh to think I am defending The Florida Bar. I have no fondness for that organization, however truth is truth.

LATE BREAKING NEWS says:

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) - In one of the largest mass demonstrations in recent history, over one million women claiming to have had sexual liaisons with Tiger Woods marched on Washington today.

Determined to show that they are a political force to be reckoned with, the coalition of nightclub hostesses, cocktail waitresses and lingerie models stopped traffic for hours as they marched to the Capitol.

Shandy Shanoyne, a 22-year-old thong publicist who had an on-again, off-again relationship with Mr. Woods, said that she organized the march to demand benefits, such as health care and workmen's compensation, for the golfer's many girlfriends.

"We are sick and tired of being told to take our names off our voicemail greetings," she said. "We have demands and they must be met. Quickly. Huge."

According to Ms. Shanoyne, the million or so mistresses of Mr. Woods who showed up at the march are just the tip of the iceberg: "A new girlfriend of Tiger's holds a press conference every eleven seconds."

In a related story, David Letterman today cleared all the golf clubs out of his house.

I am saddened about Sara Coen....I liked her...in fact, I trusted her. My atty at RRA was Carl Linder, someone who although has great credentials, gave me the creeps. Sara joined us in a meeting about a small issue regarding a company I created holding two properties (family owned) in Dom. Rep. Sara, a fellow Dominican, took me on as a friend.... (I think) She called me one evening, to say, she understood my dilemna about selling a family owned property which held much family sentimentality...because she had just done the same thing. Our homes were both in the same area. She said as soon as this was done, she would like to celebrate w me and get to know one another. I believed her.

Scott Rothstein was a bully..and a bullshitter. Sara would act on his behalf because he put it out there that he wanted to invest internationally and that was her forte. Not brain surgery. She was doing the job she excelled in. I don't believe she knew of the b.s behind his agenda. Sara, yes, was a partner at RRA, but I don't think she had an agenda. She, in a way, was a victim of SR's power. I hope. Or rather, I really want to believe that.

Where's all the hate coming from in regards to Kip? Kip owns a local marketing firm. SR was a client. He wanted to be king of South Florida. Good marketers help their clients accomplish their goals. Why did she leave Levinsons? Beacuse she did just that for Levinsons -- she acompished their goals. She took a one-store jeweler and made them larger than life. Smart marketing. Why did Robin and Mark decide to hire Kip after she went out on her own? Beacuse they saw her talent first-hand and they didn't want to lose her marketing skills as she started her own firm. When you start a new business you go after new clients. This is how you survive. You try to do business with good people. You check around. How in the world was she to know what kind of a guy SR would turn out to be? A lot of people took SR money as vendors: the Sun-Sentinel, other local papers, all the bullshit, local magazines, many jewelers, etc...

Kip may be curt, tough and to the point -- and she may piss some people off along the way - but you can't try her for doing her job.

2.Why did Robin and Mark decide to hire Kip after she went out on her own?

****She didn't 'go out on her own'. She was FIRED from the Heat 2 years ago and she hired "friend" SR to rep her knowing that the team would just pay her off to be done with her. True story. She went to school with Mark Levinson and begged for a job.

5. A lot of people took SR money as vendors: the Sun-Sentinel, other local papers, all the bullshit, local magazines, many jewelers, etc...

****All the while being held hostage by Kip while she manipulated, extorted (figurative in the sense she held SR's $$ out and forced them to do things like write fluff pieces, make sure they were covered in society pages, and give free ads to SR"s other biz' to release said $$, and syphoned off the perks)them on the regular.

Yes. A VERY small argument can be made for her 'dong her job' but there is MUCH MORE to it than that.

SR even had her CONTROLLING what peole in other his companies/partnerships could do, say, spend. If Kippy didn't agree it would be squashed.

She is a hateful, miserable, little, ****** and she deserves to get (at least) the treatment she doled out.

Besides you I guess,Find me ONE person that would go to bat for her, liked her, or will hire her especially now that the truth is out.

EVERYONE VEHEMENTLY disliked this woman and that's putting it MILDLY...No one EVER wanted to deal with her but they HAD to to get to SR's 'generosity' ...Ugh...sorry I threw up a little

I personally feel SR should get lethal injection.
Mr Levinson if not dead may be a prisoner some where. Through a network of Israeli intelligence (israeli ground troops in Iraq)or Russian Intelligence (Iraq) and Kerzners connections they could get Levinson back.
He might be related to Levinson the Jeweler.
Just a miss marple thought.
SR with add persona was bold. He wanted to be liked by all. Being a hero and rescueing someone would be right up his alley. Plus the guys might have all chipped in. The Romes their plane etc. This has happened before. They were running out of time for Levinson to still be alive.

The estimated value of Rothstein's alleged fraud has been climbing steadily for weeks. The latest filing said the U.S. government seeks "a sum of money equal to" $1.6 billion in cash. Prosecutors used a figure of $1.2 billion when Rothstein was arrested Dec. 1, and the FBI said he could have taken in $1 billion when investigators asked for alleged victims to come forward Nov. 12.

Alicia Valle, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, confirmed $1.6 billion is the new top estimate.

The funds were sent to Khalid's account bc once in a foreign banking system that has no extradition the funds transferred into SR's account are not reported to US authorities and gives another layer of protection. The only visible transaction is to Khalids account not SR's account and If SR had stayed in Morocco it would have probably been moved to other banks in cash and then it would have been untraceable. I still do not know why he returned, with that much cash he could have been setup in another country and never been extradited. By the way, Costa Rica and Venezuela also have no extradition to the US. SR wanted to invest in those countries, they have no extradition to the US either.

In early 2007, former FBI agent Robert Levinson went missing while working as a private consultant. His wife, Christine Levinson, said he was investigating cigarette smuggling and was last seen on Iran's Kish Island.

Christine Levinson, of Coral Springs, Fla., traveled to New York on Wednesday seeking a meeting with Ahmadinejad — as she's done unsuccessfully each of the last two years when he visited the United Nations.

"Bob has seven children and two grandchildren, one he doesn't even know about," Christine Levinson said. "The Iranian government has shown they are willing to help on other cases. I'm hoping they're willing to help me on this one."

I can't speak to extradition policies in Venezuela but here is some info on Costa Rica:

While they may not "extradite" an accused person to the US, generally our government will go to theirs and present them with the incriminating facts. CR will then evaluate and most often will expel that individual into our custody. DEA has done this in a number of cases over the years. CR has no "official" tolerance for drugs, corruption or sexual predators. Banking there is highly controlled. If I were on the lam, Costa Rica would not be my hideout of choice.

Intrigued (5:35 & 5:36PM 07 DEC '09) -

Swimming naked's 11:17AM post caught my attention as well. He speaks to big picture with fine clarity.

He echoes what author James Mills revealed in his 1500 page, "The Underground Empire", published in 1984, which discusses pre-cocaine era cartels. Mr. Mills states, investigations only go so far up the 'pyramid' above which one are people 'too big to bust'.

Enthralled, I read it in two days. And I'm a slow reader.

He answers Torts 102's question, 'what'd we accomplish?' This: We proved citizens are neither apathetic nor fooled by mainscheme media lies told to protect cronies who covet our liberty, wealth, and very lives.

We proved we can gather facts and publicly present them to one another, without fear.

We proved, unlike the mainscheme media which turns a blind eye to them, society's cancers will never silence us.

Good cops advise us to go public on crime syndicates public - immediately. Scream. Loudly. From the rooftops. Don't stop until the thugs either die or go to prison.

By exposing them, we 'sign their revenge' in advance, a protection in itself.

We proved we expect little from courts, politicians, cops, and lawyers.

There's many good cops but they can only do so much. Politics stops investigations, but so do economic concerns - will complex prosecutions break the bank?

Going public is unnerving, but doesn't so doing save fellow citizens' lives as well as ours?

Several agencies and individuals gave a description of The Zecchino Estate Grifters, one which can easily fit the RRA cabal:

"They did to you what they do to many, and will do to more in the future.

They may work in professions, but their calling is the same as their grandparents.

Murder is never far from them, be careful.

Filing suit against them guarantees physical retribution. Avoid Courts.

They won't face prosecution. They're protected at the highest levels and the corruption goes all the way to the top.

Deviants are involved, particularly those who prefer the very young of their own sex."

Such is the nature of the beast. Bob Norman's tireless efforts, augmented by insightful posters, provide keen insights.

Why stop now? Thugs exist if a web of greed and terror. They do anything to satisfy greed, and then experience the terror consequences.

it not a big deal to make an appointment with the mayor especially if you are bringing an investor. because that s the Moroccan policy now, just bring money and you are welcome. you get a land for no cost and no tax for 5 years.

about somebody talk about jews. and bring a wikipedia ref. and talk about HIZOboLa, In Morocco there is no problem with jews and HIZBO ALLAH is 3000 miles from morocco, u can google the MAP!!! or check Geograpgy for dommies.

But the right question where is the money I think either the FBI may not know, maybe it s in Swiss or India or China.

also does Rothstein took CASH with him in his G 3 or 5 and open an other account else than the one he opened with khalid. you never know.

it is Khalid innocent or not? I think either if he get payed he is not guilty. But unfortently all what he get only a free trip to Morocco. Because if he get a 2Millions why he come back to USA and he knew trouble is waiting for him. and nobody can force him to give it back if he stay there. or he can transfer the money to somebody else .

Take away their political influence by eliminating the self-serving, self regulating grievance mechanism at The Florida Bar and enacting stricter attorney rules enforced by The Florida Department of Professional Regulation.

Rothstein could have never accomplished these insane scams w/o peddling the influence he attained from his key position as Vice Chair Florida Bar Grievance Committee. Ordinary lawyers tempted to expose/oppose a grievance committee lawyer like Rothstein risk receiving a certified "you're in deep-doo-doo" letter from the Florida Bar.

In my version of the story Uncle Bill stayed in Morrocco with at least 20 milllion. That way when Scott got out in 10 years he and Uncle Bill would be sitting on a pile of money to enjoy their retirement.

SR is not repentant - SR has plenty of time to think about what he did; that is different than repentant. Besides, he is just full of empty words.

If I were the judge I would make him work on many cases pro bono for the people in SFla that need help such as with foreclosures, etc.; and caution him - any games land him back in the upper bunk for more time. To me, that is a way to help pay back society. (of course, never going to happen)

I'm just waiting to see where the next Fraudster emerges from in Sfla.

Right now, SR is on a work detail, maybe cleaning the floors - and what do you think is going thru his mind. Repentance? Nah, How Do I Get the F**K Outta Here is all that he is thinking about.

This is the beginning of his 2nd week, so he should be entering the depression stage. Good for him. He deserves it.

However, my analysis of the prison schematics and security was interesting. For a price there could be hope. (BOP/Feds: I am just kidding).

Little Al Capone Trivia

Through this organized corruption, which included the bribing of Mayor of Chicago William "Big Bill" Hale Thompson, Capone's gang operated largely free from legal intrusion, operating casinos and speakeasies throughout Chicago. Wealth also permitted Capone to indulge in a luxurious lifestyle of custom suits, cigars, gourmet food and drink, jewelry, and female companionship.

Al Capone dreamed of making his home in Boca Raton Florida. He started to settle there but was put into prison. He later settled in Miami where he lived out his years and died of syphilis.

Capone placed armed bodyguards around the clock at his headquarters at the Lexington Hotel.

1931 Capone was indicted for income tax evasion and various violations of the Volstead Act. Facing overwhelming evidence, his attorneys made a plea deal, but the presiding judge warned he might not follow the sentencing recommendation from the prosecution, so Capone withdrew his plea of guilty. Attempting to bribe and intimidate the potential jurors....

I'm wondering about a few things here:

1) No information on the supposed bag of cash - and its disposition upon arrival in Morocco? Even if he didn't see Benjamin in FLL, he must have seen the bag in Casablanca..., didn't he?

2) The Feds, the FED, the bank that wired the $$ (TD Bank), and the Moroccan receiving bank had to be communicating or that amount of money would not clear BIS...hmmmm.

3) I don;t see that this guy did wrong. He thought he was hanging out with the big swinging dicks, and he was, just that they are dicks who swing the other way in ever way.

4) If it is true $2M is missing - certainly it can be traced until it was turned into hard asset... doubtful he has any clue. He was played too, and another theft of $2M disappears right at the end. Fishy...but does show these people will use anyone and anybody without regard, standard psycho path behavior - "ought" not to stand up as an insanity defense, but then again the entire justice system is compromised on this one. Anyone who thinks AIPAC and gangsters don;t pull major strings just look at the 2 AIPAC execs who escaped spying for Israel charges...despite hard evidence....

5)If story is true, then it seems to me someone sent SR, while at the time SR must not have realized his world was about to implode - again he was played but why? by whom? What was the $$$ intended destination / disposition? What is exact timing of suicide emails - Sunday or Saturday? Interesting confluence of events of course... did someone get spooked therefore no meeting Saturday El Jadida at which point then everything came crashing down? I like the Hillary fly-in - did a state department jet come home with cash onboard?

6) Story is getting good. Where is Le Carre when we need him to tie it all together?

For all those who have asked about the missing two million and whether Uncle Billy came back: Khalid transferred all 16 million to Rothstein's account right after being told about the 16 million transfer into his account. He has bank statements confirming it which were given to Feds. There is no dispute about that fact. Khalid never had 2 million left. The Feds have reviewed all the facts surrounding the transfers and have personally told Khalid during their meeting that he was a pawn, a victim like so many. He was naive, which is easy to do with a guy who has pictures of himself and Charlie Crist all over his office. Also, Khalid did say that Uncle Billy went back with Rothstein to SFL. Another important point is that Khalid only met Rothstein a week or two before this trip, so he had no history with Rothstein or his crap.

I agree with Virgil Starkwell. I personally don't believe Khalid was 'innocent/naive' about the trip, and when the money was set up in his bank acct, he probably DID accept a token million for his 'trouble'. BUT, when his RRA contact/friend/atty/ calls him while they're still in Morocco, to say "SR is in a shit-load of trouble back home, the money was stolen", then Khalid probably couldn't unload the money fast enough. Khalid back-peddaled as fast as he could to start working with the Feds. Give the money back, and start talking. (ala Scott Rothstein).
