  • Matthew Bent, one of the Deerfield Beach boys accused of torching Michael Brewer, apparently shook hands with Brewer, as if to resolve their dispute over $40 Brewer owed him. Except Bent then told one of the other boys to pour the rubbing alcohol on Brewer, which was used to set him aflame. [Sun-Sentinel]
  • Questions are being raised about whether U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio landed a job at Florida International University in exchange for his having helped the school get funding from the state Legislature. [Miami Herald]
  • Avion Lawson, who was 16 at the time of the horrific Dunbar Village rape, will be sentenced today. His youth, along with his willingness to testify against the others who were convicted in the case, may spare him from a life sentence. [Palm Beach Post]
  • A grandmother who was struck Saturday by a car that jumped the sidewalk near a Fuddruckers in Pembroke Pines died of her injuries Sunday. Her two grandchildren are still hospitalized. The driver was a 65-year-old woman. [WPLG]
  • Now that developer Bruce Chait has been charged in the Broward County corruption case, school board member Stephanie Kraft must be getting awfully nervous. [Daily Pulp]
