Let's skim through the headlines for this Tuesday morning in Broward and Palm Beach:
  • Shortly after Scott Rothstein's law firm made a $200,000 donation to the Florida Democratic Party, gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink's chief of staff helped the firm be placed in consideration for lucrative legal work with the State Board of Administration. [St. Petersburg Times]
  • Rothstein told friends that he was being threatened -- and then extorted -- by a former bodyguard whom he sought to fire. [Daily Pulp]
  • A task force by Broward Sheriff's Office for combating hate crime in the county will ask the school district to implement a tolerance program and for the state Legislature to add homeless people to the hate crime statutes in hopes that, in 2010, Broward finally loses its status as the state's leader for hate crimes. [Sun-Sentinel]
  • The Palm Beach Princess gambling barge is hoping to cruise out of the port, despite an ocean of red ink. The port of Palm Beach is one of its biggest creditors, but it can still recover part of a deposit, so it won't stand in the way. Now the Princess needs forbearance from a bankruptcy court. [Palm Beach Post]
  • Republican candidate for governor Bill McCollum will not be marketing himself to Floridians as a "Crist conservative," considering the growing sentiment in the party that such a candidate would be an oxymoron. [AP]
