Florida Dems to Bill McCollum: Will You Apologize for Ruining America?

Categories: Florida, Politics

That's your Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum being all "Don't blame me for breaking the economy" even though the words on the screen say that's exactly what he did. The year was 1999, and McCollum, a congressman at the time, cosponsored this terrible bill that dissolved the separation between commercial banks and investment banks. Ten years later, the economy has gone splat. Coincidence?

Sen. John McCain doesn't think so -- he's proposed a bill to undo McCollum's bill.
Seems McCollum's of the mind that a good offense is the best defense: He's attacked Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink, who used to be a bank president and who in that capacity just may have wrecked the economy.

The good news is that we've narrowed the search for a recession fall guy. Now it's just a matter of figuring out which of them did the deed. We've got a 50/50 shot here. Currently, McCollum is scoring 45 percent in polls, compared to Sink's 39.
