[Updated -- Again] In Boynton Beach, a 10-Year-Old Struck by a Car

The accident on Congress Avenue happened an hour ago. The 10-year-old, who wasn't named in the Boynton Beach Police Department release, has been taken to the trauma center in Delray Beach.

It's not safe for adults to be pedestrians in Florida, much less kids.

From police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater:

A 10-year-old boy was taken via trauma alert to Delray Medical Center after he was struck by a car in the 1700 block of North Congress Avenue. The crash occurred at 11:08 a.m. in front of the Catalina Center. The northbound lanes of Congress Avenue from the 1600 block to the 1800 block are closed to traffic at this time.

Boynton P.D. just released a new statement about how the accident occurred:

A father and son were walking in the 1700 block of North Congress Avenue at the Catalina Center. Both were struck by a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The boy suffered serious injuries and was taken via trauma alert to Delray Medical Center. His father received minor injuries. The driver of the Mitsubishi Eclipse was not injured.

Another update, this time with the name of the child, who is now reportedly 9 years old, and the child's father:

A 9-year-old boy is recovering from serious injuries to his leg after he and his father were struck by a car while crossing the street this morning.

Ramses Veloso, 32, and his son, Gabriel Veloso, were walking from their Boynton Beach home to Walgreen's in the 1700 block of North Congress Avenue around 11 a.m.

They were struck by a dark in color Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Marlon Arreaga, 20, of Lake Worth. Arreaga was not injured.

Ramses Veloso suffered minor injuries. Gabriel Veloso suffered serious injuries to his leg and was taken via trauma alert to Delray Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

Traffic Homicide Investigators have not yet definitely determined if Ramses Veloso and Gabriel Veloso were walking in the crosswalk when they were struck.
