It's a Small Town, After All
| Judge Zloch |
The story by Jordana Mishory reports that the judge assigned to the case is U.S. District Judge William Zloch.
Someone reminds me via a phone tip that Rothstein once told Sun-Sentinel columnist Michael Mayo that among his three best friends was Chuck Zloch, of Mass Mutual insurance (Ted Morse, of course, was another).
Kicker: William and Chuck Zloch are brothers, which means that the judge in the forfeiture case is the brother of one of Scott Rothstein's
best friends (or so said Rothstein). Here's a little history on the Zloch brothers from a 1996 Miami Herald piece:------------------------
In 1967, the Flying L's played Melbourne at Lockhart Stadium in the state championship football game. Fort Lauderdale lost, 31-12, in front of 12,000 or more people. Playing quarterback for the Flying L's was Chuck Zloch.
"That has to be one of my finest high school memories," Zloch, 46, said. "That, and beating Miami High for the first time in a long time. That was one of the oldest rivalries. It
went back to the 30s."
Zloch graduated from Fort Lauderdale in 1967. His brother, Jim, finished in 1970. He, too, was a standout athlete. Jim Zloch, 42, played football and basketball and ran track. Chuck Zloch played football, basketball and baseball. Chuck was an All-Broward football player and honorable mention All-State selection.
Their older brother, Bill, played football for St. Thomas Aquinas. All three went on to play football for Notre Dame University.
Today, each resides in Broward County. Chuck Zloch is an insurance agent with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance. Jim Zloch is an attorney and announces Fort Lauderdale's football games. William "Bill" Zloch is a federal judge.
------------------------------
One attorney who knows him says that Zloch is as hard-nosed in court as he was on the football field. "He's famous for not recusing himself from a case unless he thinks there's a very good reason," said the lawyer.
Question: Should Judge Zloch recuse himself from the case because of his brother's supposed friendship with Rothstein?
-- Also, the feds got their first plea deal in the corruption case. Luke Facarazzo, who was involved in a $50,000 bribery scheme in the City of Miramar with federal fugitive Skip Aniekwu of Gulf Building Corp., pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit.
Cheers and many more returns.

I think a change of venue is in order. Move the case to Maybery, NC and the municipal court there can handle the entire matter. No continuances, no delays, no lawyers billing by the hour.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 4:56PMYou continue to break news -- this one is very interesting. I'd be surprised if Judge Zloch recuses on this one.

Sorry Out of Dania, Scott is a direct descendent of Goober and Gomer Pyle... small town there too..
Lets see whether blood is thicker than money! Also, I believe in your last statement you probably meant "because of his brother's supposed friendship with" Broward's great corrupter, the infamous crook, Scotty-boy Rothstein.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 5:00PMBob ,
You need to change the last word in your piece from judge to defendant.
Cheers
Lou
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 5:02PMI'm more interested to see the outcome of this case; as in time in prison. It is a shame you guys in Broward have so much corruption (just like we do - baddabing...) The other thing I see are many negative comments about Scott's religion. What is most interesting is why he did this, because it was sure to blow up.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 5:05PMMass Mutual is a key here. All these people are Life Insurance or Viaticals etc.
Its still a bank robbery with alot of accomplices plus a trash picker. I think the trash might have ended up on Nancey Grace.
No way is Chuck Zloch 46 if he graduated in 1967.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 6:21PMHey Pulp...are you sure about the year the Zloch brothers graduated from high school and/or their ages? Doesn't quite add up.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 6:22PMOops, never mind - that was from a 1996 newspaper article.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 6:23PMi would not be surprised if it turns out c. zlock was not close with rothstein and that was more sr bs. as far as judge w. zlock- even if his brother does know rothstein it would not matter. he is a serious judge who is perfect for this case. he will not hesitate to drop the hammer on anyone who needs it. i am sure he will recuse IF appropriate BUT i hope he stays on the case. anyone who doesn't know this judge but feels inclined to suggest he might act improperly or try to help rothstein should do a little research first ... not very likely. i am sure rothstein was not thrilled when he was told...
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 6:25PMno federal judge I have ever heard of would risk a career to hear a case with a conflict the parties were aware of if it's a real one. the federal bench is supervised quite well from DC and they know it. if the connection is b.s., then maybe, but otherwise we will see the judge address the conflict issue one way or the other.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 6:30PMI know Chuck Zlock very well and if he was one of Scott's best friends, then I'm Obama.
Chuck is a friendly guy to all and is one of the straightest shooters in town. One would have to challenge anybody who said differently....and I'm not Chuck!
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 6:33PM
Cheers to you, Bob. The next Dominick Dunne.
if anyone wants judge zlock off this case it is scott rothstein and his lawyer. the only scenario that would cause him to step aside for sure would be IF if it turns out his brother lost money with scott, but that is a sheer (not scherer) hypothetical. otherwise, rothstein is in for it.

Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 7:29PMI'm an attorney who practices a lot in federal court and I'm quite familiar with Judge Zloch.
Judge Zloch is a hard-nosed, straight shooting judge appointed by Ronald Reagan. He is the farthest thing from a "bleeding heart liberal."
I am certain he will show no favoritism to Scotty for any reason, least of all because of a so-called friendship with his brother.
In fact, if Scotty was actually good friends with his brother, Judge Zloch would probably go harder on him.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 7:53PMBob, this stuff is riveting!!! Amazing Job!

ruling in that case....?
Mutual Benefits was Steinger's company - the public record says his partner Peter Lombardi got 20 years and a fine of over $800m - the other defendants - Mcnerny & Lavoti - both local attorneys still awaiting their fate...& then there is Ken Keeschl sitting county commissioner- a lawyer too - right? and who was his client? was that Mutual Benefits too? humm

Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 9:02PMDid Scotty actually fabricate orders from a State court judge in Palm Beach County? The Palm Beach County state attorney should charge him for that alone and get him lined up for some state time, just in case he ever gets out of Federal prison. He is so screwed. He will be in for 20 years at least, no matter what deal he cuts. If I was looking at 20 years in prison, I would jump off a tall building.

Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 10:56PMWe need the bogus court order from the case before Judge Haffele. Anyone... Anyone...
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 11:14PMDid anyone notice he is an egomaniac in his bogus orders as well "... as demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence by counsel for Morse" there are probably 30 references in the bogus orders saying in effect what a great job "counsel for Morse" did and responsibilities "counsel for Morse" has. It is ridiculous. I'm not an attorney, and I would be skeptical reading something like that. Maybe he did act alone forging bogus stuff because I havent met a paralegal that writes like that. I've seen stuff Pro Se written better.
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 11:19PMwhere are the phony court pleadings posted?
Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 11:28PMRobert--you're absolutely right. For those members here who are attorneys (as I am), they can verify that the fake court documents are a joke and far from what a federal judge would actually write in an order. The language is self serving, and just not what a Federal Judge would be expected to include in such an order.
It just makes you wonder how a "Genius" like Rothstein was able to pull this whole thing off. The guy couldn't even write a credible fake court order...

Posted On: Wednesday, Nov. 11 2009 @ 11:51PMOne of the fake orders in the Morse swindle sounds more like a ransom note. Here's the pertinent part of the Sun-Sentinel story, which was written by the wife of the Pulp (link below):
----------------
The documents Rothstein gave Morse bear no case numbers, and are instead marked "Under Seal.''
The first, with a fake Marra signature, said the kitchen designer was liable to Morse for "punitive damages for fraud,'' and owed Morse $23 million. It said the designer had illegally moved millions to the Cayman Islands, but that Rothstein "has facilitated the contact between the relative governments,'' and that the money would be returned to the U.S.
The faked order demanded that Morse "deposit to their attorney's trust account the sum of $15 million no later than 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, the 20th day of March, 2009'' as a bond to secure the funds. "If such funds are not so posted,'' it went on, "this order shall be null and void. …''
The order said that Morse would have his $15 million returned, and also would be reimbursed payments he'd made to Rothstein of $15 million, $4.1 million and $18.5 million. That totals $52.6 million, but Pozzuoli said "it appears [Morse] posted $57 million total.''
Along with the faked Marra order came a 15-page confidentiality order, which Morse and others with knowledge of the case were told to sign. It warned that if anyone talked about the case, ever, they'd face "severe consequences … including … civil and criminal penalties'' and that Morse could only discuss the case with Rothstein. Breaches would be punished by "damages of $1 million per each incident of disclosure'' as well as possible additional damages and criminal charges, it said.

Posted On: Thursday, Nov. 12 2009 @ 12:30AMYou want to know about Keechl? I'll tell you that I think he's dirty," says Wolk. "He's just another one of these miserable lawyers. Many of them are as bad as any con artist you can find, just padding their wallets."
Even by South Florida lawyer standards, Keechl's work for Mutual Benefits is an embarrassment — and it might be worse than that. His partner, McNerney, was indicted in December on conspiracy and money laundering charges in connection with his work for Mutual Benefits. McNerney is just one of numerous people who have been indicted or convicted in the Mutual Benefits case.
The law firm, in 2005, also faced a class action lawsuit from Mutual Benefits investors alleging negligence and breach of fiduciary duties. The firm paid $10 million to settle the suit, which didn't name Keechl personally.
Keechl left the law firm to run for County Commission in 2006. His opponent, incumbent Jim Scott, raised the issue of Mutual Benefits late in the race, prompting a single article in the Sun-Sentinel about the connection.
In the article, Keechl claimed he didn't know the company was breaking the law. "They were entitled to be represented, and they were," he said at the time. "That's what lawyers do."
Most lawyers stay away from defending ongoing criminal enterprises, though. And if Keechl didn't know it, then his judgment is suspect. If he did, then his ethics are in serious question.
The feds continue to investigate, and more indictments may be on the way.
Move the trial to Mayberry? Do you think Otis wants Scott as a cellmate?

Oh yes, about our Palm Beach County state attorney......good luck! Remember who wouldn't prosecute Jeffery Epstein?
"The public now knows what even the then-U.S. Attorney for Southern Florida didn’t want the public to know: details of the plea deal between the government of the United States and Palm Beacher Jeffrey Epstein, the rich Democratic donor with a taste for high-school girls.
And you can see why R. Alexander Acosta, now the dean of law at Florida International University, didn’t want the details known. They embarrass the Department of Justice. The government agreed to let Epstein plead to comparatively light charges in state court. The government agreed not to prosecute the women who procured the girls for massages and sex at Epstein’s house. The government even agreed to help coerce agreements from the victims to accept $150,000 if they agreed not to file civil suits in state court.
Combine this with the kid-glove treatment Epstein got from former Palm Beach County State Attorney Barry Krischer, and you see how the system worked for a rich man with all the lawyers money could buy. Epstein served 13 months of an 18-month sentence, and served it only at night." September 21st, 2009 by Opinion Staff, PBPost

Fast forward a day or two and the attention turned to Uncle Bill (William

And guess who found him? First three answers don't count. Ah, once again, it's hard to be humble when you are me.

Copied from previous article:
Rothstein even gave $50,000 to sponsor Crist's birthday cake in 2008, at a GOP fundraiser-cum-birthday party at The Breakers hotel in Palm Beach, the Miami Herald reports. A Republican insider tells TPMmuckraker that in return, the logo of Rothstein's law firm was painted in the frosting of the cake.
It turns out Rothstein also has a picture in his office of he, Crist, and Crist's wife blowing out the candles on a cake at one of the governor's birthday parties.

We think you are being too charitable KipOff Artist.
Kip always knew her role was to dress up this sewer rat. Laying low and public service will not help. She needs to evaporate with all the rest of the vermin whose mission each day was to assist and protect criminals.
Also, what kind of incompetence does it require to use all that money to make a client look like even more of a fool than he is?
After the Miami Herald over the weekend broke a story on yet another Stacy Ritter vote that benefitted the lobbying business of her husband, Russ Klenet, I think it's time we had a one-stop shopping spot for all the alleged misdeeds of the Ritter-Klenets.
2007
-- It begins in the summer of 2007 with a notebook left behind at a commission meeting by a supervisor working for URS, the company that has been paid about $100 million to manage Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Klenet worked as a lobbyist for URS but when his wife, Ritter, was elected to the commission in November 2006 he claimed to have cut ties with that company and all others doing business with county. The notebook, however, listed Klenet as a member of its lobbying "posse" as late as April 2007, months after Ritter took office. Worse, Ritter had made herself the
"airport liaison" for the county commission and had been advocating on the dais for URS every step of the way. Here is link.
-- Next was the Vista Health Plan vote. Ritter voted to give Vista the contract without disclosing that the company had hired her husband's firm to lobby the commission seven weeks before. She also served on the insurance commission that worked on the matter. Ritter claimed because her husband didn't actually lobby the commission on the matter -- his partner William McKinley was the registered lobbyist-- the vote wasn't a conflict. Yet, Klenet served on the firm -- Tallahassee-based Dutko, Poole, McKinley -- as the "managing director" for Broward County operations. One of the state's biggest long-running jokes, the Commission on Ethics, backed up that ludicrous contention. From the article: "Even longtime, corruption-hardened county government insiders privately say that Ritter and Klenet are violating the public's trust and heading for serious trouble." Here's the link.
-- Ritter's relationship with URS deepens when her county emails show that Klenet was serving as a conduit to her from the company and that she was sharing county information on airport matters with Klenet, potentially for URS' benefit. All the while Ritter was doing URS's bidding on the dais and behind the scenes as commissioner.
More to come....

Scott W. Rothstein says:
Good afternoon Bob,
Wow, I must have really shaken you up. I have never seen you write in such wildly slanderous ramblings. I apologize. I simply called you as a courtesy to politely attempt to get you to see the light. Judging by what you just wrote, it is clear that you can't seem to grasp the message i was trying to deliver. The people of our community are tired of you hurting innocent people to keep your job and make a buck. You want to call yourself a journalist, act like one. You want to make a living by writing fiction and harming good people, expect to be held accountable.
The rules are really quite simple. Write anything you want about me or anyone else...just keep it fair and keep it factual. I am certainly fair game as are many others in our community. I never said not to write about me. Have at it. I simply asked you to follow the rules: Do not lie, do not make up facts, do not play with words to create a controversy where none exists, and do not mischaracterize conversations.
Your attempt to accurately detail our conversation is not even close. Correct the article to make it factually correct or take it down now.
I do not have the time nor the inclination to go through your entire article and dissect it piece by piece. However, I will advise you as follows:
Most of your quotes are wholly inaccurate. Most of your characterizations of our conversation are wholly incorrect and attempt to cast our conversation in a completely false light.
I really have no idea how you thought you should attempt to quote anything we discussed...you advised that you were in your car driving somewhere. But thats for another conversation.
In any event, either correct the article or take it down. And do not write one single word about anyone else that is not fair and factual.
Be well,
Scott

I completely agree with the above comment, the internet is with a doubt growing into the most important medium of communication across the globe and its due to sites like this that ideas are spreading so quickly.
