The Caravan of Tow Trucks Speeding Down Federal Highway...

If you were on U.S. 1 in Broward County about 2 p.m. today, chances are you saw the caravan of speeding tow trucks racing south, mixed in with a number of BSO cruisers, lights flashing, sirens blaring.

There were at least 30 trucks in total and a half-dozen or so police cars. They weaved in and out of traffic, right by a number of very confused drivers. After going through several traffic lights, they swung a hard right on Oakland Park. If you saw it and it have been following the news recently, you couldn't help but think there was a fleet of hidden Rothstein vehicles somewhere in the county that was about to become property of the police.

It turns out this wasn't a large-scale evidence confiscation move on another big Ponzi schemer...

Crack blog editor extraordinaire Thomas Francis made a few phone calls as I watched the tow trucks roll by, one after another after another after another. First, to BSO media relations, who knew nothing of the caravan of tow trucks and cops.

Then he called Sal's Towing -- several trucks were part of Sal's Fleet -- and was told that a celebrated figure in the local towing community died recently. This potentially dangerous but no less noble stunt was part of his funeral.

In other news, today would have been a good day to park illegally.
