Rothstein's whereabouts are still unknown, though rumors persist that he is in Morocco, which has no extradition treaty with the United States. I'm not sure we'll know for sure anytime soon, but I can say that when I briefly reached him on his cell phone yesterday morning, I heard foreign voices that I couldn't identify in the background. Also, one of my numerous calls to his cell phone came to what appeared to be a recording of a woman speaking in
a French dialect. (French is the common language of commerce in Morocco.) It was very bizarre, and subsequent calls have connected to his regular voice mail. Even his attorney, Marc Nurik, who has said Rothstein left town to "clear his head," claims not to know where he is.
A key question: How much money did Rothstein have access to before he left the country, and where did he get it?
At the same time, there was an all-hands-on-deck staff meeting of the firm's lawyers. The firm is on "lockdown" -- the lawyers are not allowed to move anything out of the building. So a Bear Stearns-like scene of 70 lawyers carrying boxes in and out doesn't seem likely.

That is, if he returns to the country, which still looks doubtful. I know some of the attorneys who work at RRA and I almost feel sorry for them, the operative word being almost. They know what they were getting into and never asked the obvious questions about where all of the money was coming from. Sounds like they will be screwed financially along with all of Scott's other investors and I'm sure other law firms will be lining up to hire the "disgraced lawyers" from RRA. Hopefully Crist and some of the other Republicans (and Democrats) that Rothstein supported will now be as tainted as the money they were so eager to take from him.

Second: i wonder if Nurik was paid by Rothestein IN ADVANCE. what was the source of funds he used or plans to use for his defense. i hope they (the feds and the civil lawyers representing the investors)take a carful look at how Nurik is getting or has been paid. also, it would seeem someone could conflict Nurik out of this case with a little creativity.
Third: the people who handed their money over to this clown while he threw it around town like confetti have no excuse for their stupidity. PERIOD
Posted On: Monday, Nov. 2 2009 @ 10:31AMPulp, good point but RRA cannot hire anyone without Scott's money (or maybe its the Receiver's money today), so even if Coffey is representing "the firm," there will be a coordinated defense between Coffey and Nurik designed to clear Rothstein. Although some of the lawyers at RRA are starting to realize what an idiot they were working for, I doubt any of them are bold enough to turn on him when he knows all of the skeletons in their closets, and it sounds like some of them were complicit in his fraudulent activities. It's especially ironic that he allegedly ripped off his supposed "best friend" Ted Morse, who was actually Les Stacher's client. Maybe that's why Stracher is looking for a new job today.....
By the way Pulp, do you know which disgraced lawyers were let go over the weekend? Inquiring minds want to know.

I believe the Feds were looking at Scott for sometime now, and his case is much further along than we might suspect. Don't think for one moment a private Jet left USA without filing an international flight plan listing the names of all passengers! Don't think for one moment, his cell phone is not cloned! Don't think for another moment he is "alone" in Mooraco! Uncle Sam has their man.
I do not accept feeling sorry for the RRA firm...in fact, they are probably in as deep as Scott..just hiding behind him. Attorneys are responsible for their clients money..no matter who signs the checks....

Las Olas merchants and tenants have suffered through this egregious situation and have been victimized by BOWEN and the Las Olas Company;
finally the last straw was the 6 M loan that brought to light BOWEN'S sleazy tactics through his smooth southern charm. He was fired, and this mess is left for everyone to clean up. Levinson's is a tenant of the Las Olas Company, and they add nothing valuable to the boulevard by closing early, evidently not needing the sales - Scott & Kimmie R. were there biggest clients, walking out of the store with over a half a million dollars regularly. Levinson is an arrogant condesending man. He too made the move to east Ft. Lauderdale like Rothstein from Plantation. Not to worry his friend Dan Marino, who appears on giant billboards with his wife wearing Levinsons Jewelry and has been connected with them for ages.

I have a relative inside one of these places and they moved millions for him and shared in the huge windfall. How do you think they have made the tremendous jump into the glamour world and fly around in Gulfstream Jets?
