For your reading enjoyment, I was anonymously forwarded this strange email purportedly sent by Scott Rothstein to his staff at Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler on May 1, five months before his Ponzi scheme blew up. What's funny is that it comes with a maniacal laugh, more than one reference to insanity, and he actually asked the staff to wish his new personal assistant, Marybeth, luck "as she tries to keep me from imploding."

In our never ending changing wacky world I have two changes to advise you of.

Effective 1 week from today, Marybeth will be changing roles from Director of Business Relations to the CEO to Personal Assistant to the CEO. She is going to make a valiant (defined insane) attempt to

organize and control my personal life so that I can attempt to have a semi-organized and semi-controlled business life....heheheheheehe.......please join me in wishing her the best of luck as she tries to keep me from imploding.....she will be working both in and out of the office. In all seriousness, I am blessed to have her in my life.

Effective 2 weeks from today, Amy Howard will be promoted to Director of Business Relations to the CEO.....and she will be the one who tries to keep my business world at least semi-organized.

She will assume all of Marybeth's duties associated with that position. If you need something relative to me, you will now terrorize amy instead of marybeth. Marybeth shall from this point forward ONLY be terrorized by me :-)

Please join me in congratulating both of these insane women for accepting these most psychotic positions.

Should Lippman be in jail with Rothstein? I heard he took many private jets over the years. Have the Feds found out who paid for them? I wonder who owned the planes. These questions should be answered. What goes around, comes around. It appears that Lippman's day has come. Villegas should speak volume about Lippman's deeds. Rothstein rode the charities, the temple, the rabbi, his profession, the politicians, his position, his people, the proclivity of capital to seek higher rewards and returns and people to seek profit and prominence all to his advantage. The scheme would not have worked otherwise and to the extent that all these received compensation, they too benefited from this giant of graft and menace of mankind. But the guilt one feels for honestly accepting pecuniary compensation for ones work, even if it derives from illicit sources, is nothing compared to the anger one and depression prevalent in the presence of the theft of revenues and reputation.

Having had the displeasure of once meeting this Rothfraud, I can attest to the fact that he is a heartless, manipulative, vain, ego-king with a driving obsession to control everyone around him. Everything he's ever done and all the $$ he's ever given to charity has revolved around one thing only - him looking good. He never cared about the needy or bettering our community. He's long treated his own working class relatives like garbage and looks down upon them for living in average/modest housing and driving non-luxury vehicles when they bring home legitimate paychecks. Nice to see such an arrogant, smug, hypocritical lier take a tumble. Who's embarrassed now Scott?!
So Steve, way back in 1998 supported D Bob Graham by giving $250. In 2006, he supported Arlen Specter w/ $4200. In 2007, a total of $29000 towards Republican candidates (ha, excluding a measly $250 towards Bill Richardson). In 2008, $188,100 was spent towards Repubs, and in 2009, he had a mere $4800 "contribution." He seemed to have a soft spot for Alen Specter though... giving him $200 in 2009. These are the amts based on a Plantation address. Fort Laud address also has him contributing $6600 to Colorado Repubs in 2008. 2008 seems to have brought him a lot of "success" to be able to make these types of contributions, huh? When did he join the firm?
Steve Lippman was a two bit collection attorney before he joined RRA and he soon became part of the inner sanctum along with Rosenfeldt and Adler. I wonder how much Lippman's political contributions increased once he joined RRA, and how much of those contributions were reimbursed by Scotty boy, just like he did with Rosenfeldt. Can you say felony?

RRA was pretty clearly a vast criminal conspiracy masquerading as a law firm. The toothless Florida Bar will predictably give everyone but Rothstein and maybe his partners (in crime?) Rosenfeldt and Adler a pass. So let's hope everyone else who was a party to this outrageous fraud is handcuffed with ruinous lawsuits for the rest of their miserable, chiseling lives. That includes judges and county commissioners who chose to look the other way as long as their paychecks kept coming. Oh yes---and be well, kids!

About the advert: A similar ad (same picture, same tag line, "Welcome to *our* house", makes up the glossy back page of the South Florida Business Journal's Giving Guide for 2009. The only difference is the sentence below that tag line, modified for this particular audience, "RRA is proud to support all of the charities and non-profits represented in The Giving Guide". What a shame. The book was given out by the SFBJ to all in attendance at National Philanthropy Day last week. It is a shame because he/RRA hoodwinked so many charities/not-for-profits that are taking care of a growing population of needy souls (we are talking a lot of basic services here, like FOOD) in Broward County.

If these are the only choices, I vote for #3 because if #2 he would have tried to implicate Rothstein by now and if #1 he would have known he was innocent and would have tried to implicate Rothstein by now. Possibly the murder was not an intended manipulation (#3) but was an unintended consequence of some other deceit, some other cover up.
Villegas has not taken the fall for anything. His assertion (through his attorney) is that he was framed. I don't know the truth (though I become more suspicious each day), but there are several logical possibilities: 1. T.Villages is innocent, and was framed by D.Villages and Scott Rothstein, who orchestrated the murder through someone else. 2. T.Villages is guilty, was paid by Rothstein, thought he'd get away with it, but got arrested. If he implicates Rothstein, he might get a lesser sentence, but he loses the money and still goes to prison. If he remains silent and simply defends on other grounds, he could be found not guilty and walk away with the cash. 3. T.Villages is guilty, was not paid, but was manipulated by Rothstein/D.Villages. D.Villages knew that she could push the right buttons and prompt T.Villages to react in a violent manner towards Melissa. #2 seems the most logical to me.

Federal prosecutors tried to gag Palfrey from going public about her former customers. The Feds froze her business assets so the thing of value she was left with was her phone records. Also, on re-reading the disturbing email there are big clues in there that all is not right at "our house." What is a "Director of Business Relations to the CEO"??? Even worse, an employee designated to handle the personal business of one principal??? Who works "both in and out of the office"??? What is that code for? Any conscientious attorneys should have thrown the flag on this email and said no to such blatantly improper use of funds belonging to the law firm. Yes that Rothstein Rosen Adler ad was for real and plastered all over town...if you are an East Ft Lauderdale homeowner you receive it free in the mail....we all used to die laughing at the pathetic socialite wanna be pictures. I would go to the back where the party pictures are posted and think what a schmuck ..last month there is a picture with Ratschmuck, Kimmieeeeeeeeee and Mr Old Man Morse.....a few weeks later the scheme and the schmuck hits the fan. Imagine he was asking his firm in a mass internal email about extradition and they told him Morocco...the more I read the more I am appalled at the corruption that runs rampant in this County. I've been thinking about SR's odd recent public appearances and can come to only one conclusion. He's too cowardly and narcissistic to kill himself. I truly feel your pain and I am sure that in light of what is happening there will be closer scrutiny of the case. No words in any language can console your loss and pain. If I was a potential employee or client I would run 100 miles in the opposite direction upon seeing such crass and inappropriate familiarity in a professional setting. Secondly, hundreds of people are arrested every delay for petty crimes no where near the magnitude of this one. Why is this joke of a con artist being given such preferential treatment...ummmm one has wonder!!! Thirdly, in today's Sun Sentinel and glossy insert, the Levinsons have replaced the Rothsteins in the social pages. Is this a last ditch effort to restore their reputation in the Fraud Lauderdale society? Come on FEDS do your job and show the fine citizens of this city that there is in fact some law and order and perpetrators will be held accountable for scamming, conning, stealing, embezzling, lying, defrauding, misusing, conniving and colluding.
The standard to which the other laywers at RRA will be held is that of "knew or should have known". Whether that equates to criminal charges or Fla Bar problems, or both, remains to be seen. They are all damaged goods from an employment perspective. ENOUGH of this Melissa murder crap. Someone please explain to me why Tony Villegas would take the fall for that. Those who blame the secretaries do not know how organizations work. Lowest level staff are systematically excluded from the social exchanges of those at the top, men's room conversations, etc, ways they might discover illegal activities or even legal ones. Scottie's fake vulnerability contrives a sense of teamwork and casual association, and off duty romps may give lower level staff some exposure to corporate secrets. But even ethical organizations protect secrets from their competitors and their own staff. Attorney-client privilege can only add to the barriers. I am not going to argue that a chief of staff was "just taking orders" but I think the circle could not have been so large enough to include everyone.
To Anonymous: Enough of the Melissa thing? This is not about creating reasonable doubt. That is her lawyer's job. My quest, on behalf of my silenced sister, is to seek truth and justice. Was Melissa's life not more valuable than all the stolen money and ill gotten goods? Just further proof that the inmates at Club RRA had full knowledge that they were working in an extremely flawed business model, aka , criminal enterprise. I can't imagine the daily duties of staff were that demanding. Basically, remain loyal, blind and tight lipped, collect the generous paycheck weekly, cash it before it bounces and wait around for the next paycheck. Now that the checks are not forthcoming these employees will be occupied dodging the falling debris from the house of cards. RICO.

I've worked for 2 companies in my lifetime where the owners were very charming like SR and the feds came in within weeks of me working there at one company and after a few months at another company and escorted the owners out and the owners both sent messages back to the office that not to worry it was a mistake and they will be back in the office by the following day. I knew my bosses were overly charming. I also knew something was wrong but I just couldn't figure it out. I saw things that were not kosher. I was young. I was front office. But I still knew something was amiss and always had an uneasy feeling something was not right. But I was young and didn't have access to enough to put two and two together. At one company the bookkeeper had been found floating in a canal right before I started working there and within a week the feds took my boss. I found out about the bookkeeper only a day or so before the feds came in. I was already looking for another job. At that company I saw some things that could have gotten me murdered. I didn't go back to that job after the feds took my boss and he didn't come back like he said he would. ps both bosses at both jobs never came back and I left because I then knew it was time to just not go back to work. They ended up doing serious time in prison. I'll not say who they were. I was full of fear for months after the feds came in because someone may think I know something I'm not supposed to repeat, etc. Every time a limo would be behind my car I couldn't even breath. And if they pulled up next to my car I'd speed up and go some other way in order to lose them. I was really young and new in the workforce but observant and intuitive. Too bad I wasn't intuitive enough to pick up on it in the interview that it wasn't the kind of place you really should work at. My one boss had a secret office just like SR. The other had right hand people where I picked up on the body language of the women close to him and I could tell those women didn't trust him and were mad at him. He was always charming to them but I could tell they did not like him at all. Now I know why. They probably knew too much and were afraid to leave.
Enough of the Melissa thing. We got it. You are trying to create some kind of reasonable doubt pre-trial. Call Justice or walk into the FBI field office in Miami and request that her case be added to the Rothstein matter and they will look into it. Thanks.

Actually those photos are of the HR department at RRA. Scott surrounded himself with unscrupulous, stupid people in his "inner sanctum" and paid them too much money so they would do what he said and not question him. In those pictures is Ingrid Sahdala, Amy Howard and Debra Villegas. They had offices in the inner sanctum. Aimee, the daughter of Debra V. used to be Uncle Bill's assistant in the accounting department, but got moved to a different position.
I was wondering if it could be possible that that RRA attorneys partners and staff really did not know their boss was a goniff and a scam. Until now I was willing to give a few people and some support staff the benefit of doubt. Assuming this memo from Scott is genuine and after seeing the crazy at the capital grille, what is very clear is that he is not only a con but also totally BONKERS. NUTS, CRAZY. DING DONG! How could former judges and public sector attorneys and officials, law school graduates, law clerks, policemen, paralegals and secretaries who worked there see such nonsense and memos signed with a smiley ! :-) and think this was a legitimate place of business? This was portrayed to be an "important" law partnership by Scott. He told everyone all the time how highly influential his place of business was and that they even worked closely with the governor! Those employees who did not immediately smell the rot and think to escape this nut job at first light, are too dumb to be in our profession. Did they truly think this would end well or that they would get out with their reputations in tact? They now realize they will be lucky to escape jail. A very big price and only a few years of being overpaid to show for it! Stash the cash now! And what kind of unfortunate clients actually wanted these jokers as their representatives? I feel for them. I know it is not politically correct, but I agree this Villegas character does look quite seedy and just unkempt, nothing like the COO of big company. Sorry to say it but appearance does matter. This firm was pretending to be an uppercrust almost white-shoe establishment. If that were the reality, there would have been a proper HR dept to remind staff that fatass photo contests and pictures in which the people are wasted and wobbling around in bad clothing should be set on private. Behind every office, there are always front or entry level positions... ppl who are just trying to make a living so they can go home & enjoy their lives & families. I feel for the lower level staff... someone answering the phone who had NOTHING to do with biz operations or legal issues is now out of a job. At least RRA had a fun team spirit thing going for their staff. That's more than what many legitimate businesses do. Lower level didn't know it was a house of cards. Leave the girls alone.
